Chapter 1: The Ceremony of Shame
The full moon hung in the sky like a cold, unforgiving eye. It watched me—Elara Vance, the pack's forgotten Omega—as I stood trembling in the middle of the silver-lit clearing.
Tonight was supposed to be the happiest night of my life.
Tonight, Alpha Kael Stone was going to claim me as his mate.
My heart pounded so hard I could barely breathe. I had dreamed of this moment since I was a child, watching Kael from the shadows of the pack house. He was the strongest Alpha our generation had ever seen. Against all odds, he had chosen me—the weak, useless Omega who couldn't even shift properly.
I smoothed my white ceremonial dress with trembling hands. The other Omegas had braided my hair with moonflowers. For the first time in my miserable life, I felt beautiful.
Kael strode toward me through the crowd of hundreds. His dark hair swept back, his broad shoulders filling out his black ceremonial robe. His eyes were like steel—cold, sharp, and unreadable.
*He's just nervous,* I told myself. *Like me.*
When he reached me, I smiled. My lips parted to whisper the words I had rehearsed a thousand times.
But he didn't take my hand.
He didn't even look at me.
He turned to the crowd, his voice booming across the silent clearing:
*"I, Kael Stone, Alpha of the Shadow Pack, reject this Omega as my mate."*
Silence.
Then... laughter. Cruel, mocking laughter from every direction.
My blood turned to ice. My legs gave out beneath me. I would have fallen if my wolf hadn't screamed inside my chest.
"No... this can't be real."
"Kael..." I whispered, tears already streaming down my face. "Why? You said you loved me. You said—"
He leaned in close, his hot breath against my ear. But the words that came out weren't filled with love. They were poisoned daggers.
*"You were just a pawn, Elara. I used you to make Selene jealous. She's the one I truly love. Not some weak, worthless mutt like you."*
His claws sank into my shoulder, carving the rejection mark deep into my flesh.
I screamed.
The pain was excruciating—not just physical, but soul-deep. My wolf howled inside me, shattering into a million pieces. The mark burned like acid, searing through my veins, severing the mate-bond I had treasured my entire life.
"Now leave," Kael said coldly, wiping my blood from his claws. "I never want to see your pathetic face again."
The crowd cheered. My own pack—the people I grew up with—laughed and pointed at me. Selene, the beautiful rogue who had stolen Kael's heart, stepped forward and wrapped her arms around him. She kissed him right in front of me.
*"You made the right choice, Alpha,"* she purred.
I didn't walk out of that clearing.
I ran.
I ran through the dark forest, branches cutting my face, thorns tearing my dress. My bare feet bled against sharp rocks. The rejection wound on my shoulder throbbed with every heartbeat.
But the physical pain was nothing compared to the agony in my chest.
*He never loved me.*
*It was all a lie.*
*I was nothing but a tool to make Selene jealous.*
I ran until my lungs burned and my legs gave out. I collapsed at the edge of the territory, bleeding, broken, and completely alone.
The last thing I saw before darkness claimed me was the moon disappearing behind the clouds.
And in that darkness, I made a vow:
*"I will survive this. I will become stronger than any of them. And one day... I will make them all pay."*
---
I woke up in a soft bed.
The scent of pine wood and old parchment filled my nostrils. I blinked, trying to focus. The ceiling was wooden, dotted with ancient runes I didn't recognize. Sunlight streamed through a small window.
*Where am I?*
I tried to sit up, but pain shot through my shoulder—the rejection mark. I winced, touching the bandage wrapped around it.
"Careful, princess. You've been unconscious for three days."
A deep voice rumbled from the corner. I turned my head, heart racing.
A massive man stepped out of the shadows. He was tall, easily over six feet, with silver-streaked hair and sharp amber eyes that seemed to see straight through me. His body was covered in scars—the marks of a warrior who had survived countless battles.
"Who are you?" I whispered, my voice hoarse. "Where am I?"
"My name is Marcus," he said, his tone surprisingly gentle. "And you are in a safe house, hidden from the Shadow Pack. I've been tracking you for years, Elara Moonblood."
I froze. "Moonblood? That's not my name. I'm Elara Vance. I'm an Omega orphan. I don't have a family."
Marcus smiled sadly. He walked over to a wooden chest and pulled out a bundle of ancient scrolls. He laid them on the bed in front of me.
"Read these, child. Then you'll understand."
My hands trembled as I unrolled the first scroll. It was written in ancient werewolf script, but somehow... I could read it perfectly.
> *"The Moonblood bloodline is the oldest and most powerful of all werewolf dynasties. The True Luna, born of this line, holds the power to command every wolf, every pack, and every Alpha. She is the heart of the prophecy."*
I looked up, my mind spinning. "The True Luna? That's just a legend. A fairy tale."
Marcus shook his head. "It's not a legend. Your grandmother was the last True Luna. She ruled all werewolves for three centuries before she was betrayed and murdered by a dark magic cult known as the Shadow."
I felt the air leave my lungs.
"The cult didn't just kill your grandmother. They massacred your entire family. But you survived, Elara. Your mother escaped while pregnant with you. She hid you inside the Shadow Pack, disguised as a weak Omega, hoping the cult would never find you."
Tears poured down my face. "My mother... is she...?"
"She died protecting you when you were a baby," Marcus said softly. "She gave her life so you could live."
I sobbed, clutching the scroll to my chest. Years of loneliness, of bullying, of feeling like I didn't belong—it all made sense now. I wasn't a weak Omega. I was the heir to a lost kingdom.
"Marcus," I whispered, lifting my head. "What happened to the cult? Who leads them now?"
His amber eyes darkened. "They're still out there. They've been hunting the Moonblood line for decades. And recently, they've allied themselves with someone inside the Shadow Pack."
My blood ran cold. "Who?"
Marcus hesitated, then answered: *"Selene."*
Selene. The woman who stole Kael from me. The woman who kissed him at my rejection ceremony.
"Then she's my enemy," I said, my voice hardening. "And so is Kael."
I climbed out of bed, ignoring the pain in my shoulder. I stood in front of Marcus, meeting his gaze with fire in my eyes.
"Train me, Marcus. Make me strong. I want revenge on everyone who wronged me. I want to reclaim my birthright. And I want to destroy Selene and her cult before they destroy me."
Marcus studied me for a long moment. Then he smiled—a proud, warm smile.
"I've been waiting to hear you say that, princess. Your mother would be proud."
---
The first month of training was brutal.
Marcus pushed me past every limit I thought I had. At sunrise, we ran through the forest until my legs felt like they would snap. At midday, he taught me combat—how to throw a punch, how to dodge, how to use an enemy's weight against them.
And at night, he forced me to meditate, searching deep inside myself for the power I had never known I possessed.
"Your wolf is not just a wolf, Elara," Marcus explained one evening. "She is an ancient spirit—the soul of the True Luna. She has been sleeping inside you your entire life because you believed you were weak. But now you know the truth."
I closed my eyes and focused inward. For weeks, I had felt nothing but emptiness. But tonight, something was different.
I felt a warmth spreading through my chest. A heartbeat, strong and steady, that wasn't my own.
*"Elara..."*
A voice. Soft, powerful, ancient.
*"Elara, I've been waiting for you to find me."*
"Who are you?" I whispered out loud.
*"I am you, child. I am the True Luna. And together, we will burn our enemies to ash."*
My eyes snapped open. They were glowing—a brilliant, blazing silver. My hands crackled with energy.
Marcus stepped back, his expression one of shock and awe. "By the Moon Goddess... it's happening."
I stood up, my body trembling. The power surged through me like wildfire. I could hear wolves howling in the distance—not in fear, but in *submission*. They could feel me. Every pack for miles could feel the True Luna awakening.
"I can feel them," I breathed. "Every single wolf. Their emotions. Their fears. Their loyalties."
Marcus knelt before me, bowing his head. "You are the True Luna, Elara. The prophecy is unfolding."
I looked at my glowing hands, then at the night sky. The full moon was shining directly over the cabin, bathing me in silver light.
And in that moment, I swore another vow—not just for revenge, but for justice.
*"I will unite the packs. I will destroy the Shadow cult. And I will never, ever let anyone control my destiny again."*
The moon pulsed as if it answered me.
---
**Two years passed.**
Two years of intense training, of pushing my limits, of mastering the powers of the True Luna. I could now command wolves with a single thought. I could heal wounds with a touch. I could unleash the "Howl"—an ancient power that could shake mountains and shatter enemy armies.
Marcus had also taught me the ways of the human world. I studied business, finance, and politics. I learned how to navigate boardrooms and ballrooms with the same grace I used in combat.
And I claimed my inheritance.
The Moonblood fortune—hidden for decades in offshore accounts and secret trusts—was mine. I was richer than most pack Alphas combined. I purchased a massive mansion in the heart of the werewolf capital, just miles away from the Shadow Pack's territory.
Under my new identity—**Elena Hart**, a wealthy heiress—I enrolled in the Wolf King's Academy, the most prestigious werewolf university in existence.
*"The Academy,"* Marcus warned me before I left, *"is where pack leaders send their heirs. You will see Kael and Selene there. You will see Alphas, Betas, and future kings. Keep your true identity hidden, and stay close to Damon Blackwood."*
"Damon Blackwood?" I asked, raising an eyebrow. "The Alpha King?"
Marcus nodded. *"He is the most powerful werewolf alive. And according to the prophecy... he is your true mate. He has been searching for the True Luna for years. When you meet, the bond will snap into place. You must be ready."*
I swallowed hard. A fated mate? The Alpha King himself?
*This complicates things.*
---
I stepped out of the limousine, my designer heels clicking against the marble pavement of the academy's entrance. Students stared at me—whispering, pointing. They had never seen a wolf like me before. I was elegant. Powerful. Unreachable.
And then I saw them.
Kael and Selene, walking hand in hand across the courtyard.
Kael looked exactly as I remembered—tall, dark, devastatingly handsome. Selene clung to his arm like a trophy, her ruby lips curling into a smirk as she surveyed the crowd.
When Kael's eyes met mine, he froze.
His pupils dilated. His body stiffened. I felt the mate-bond tug between us—the one he had tried to sever when he rejected me.
*Oh, this is going to be fun.*
I walked past him without a glance, my scent hitting him like a freight train.
"Wait," Kael said, his voice trembling. "Who are you?"
I stopped. Turned. Gave him a cold, dangerous smile.
"Your worst nightmare, Alpha."
And I walked away, leaving him breathless and desperate.
