Cole POV
“This is so awesome,” Ruth looks at me with bright eyes. It is hard to believe it is the same girl who glared angrily at me a moment ago when I entered her room. “I’m getting a sister.”
“Yes,” I smile. “And I need your help to make it happen since she’s not well. Will you?”
“I’d love that,” she runs to her dresser, opens a drawer, and pulls out a file. “I have everything we need right here.”
“What the hell is that?” I frown.
“My bridal file,” she smiles dreamily, opening it. “Every possible checklist that we might possibly need.”
“You do realise this is happening tomorrow night?” I raise my eyebrows.
“I can do it,” she shrugs nonchalantly while paging through her file.
“Okay then,” I smile. “I’ll leave you to it.”
“Cole,” she calls me back as I reach for the door, and I turn around. “Is it true about the vampires and the daylight?”
“Yes,” I exhale deeply.
“You’re going to stop them, right?” She asks with big eyes.
“I sure am going to try,” I nod and leave.
With long strides, I walk outside and get onto my dirt bike. Securing the perimeter is not the answer. Vampires do not sleep; they do not get tired and are active twenty-four-seven. My warriors will not be able to keep up. They need sleep and to rest.
I ride to the East gate and park.
“Update?” I look at Preston.
“We were ready and killed two more,” he rolls his shoulders and stretches his arms from exhaustion. “We’re going for the kill, and don’t bother with hostages.”
“We have one,” I nod. “We don’t need more.”
I looked at my warriors. The tension in their shoulders is evident, but I do not miss the fatigue either.
“I’m closing all our entrances,” I announce. “We’ll only leave the main gate open. Start digging a trench around our perimeter. We’ll fill it with holy water.”
“Will that work?” Preston frowns. “And where are we supposed to get thousands of l****s of holy water.”
“Ariella said they can’t adjust to holy water,” I explain. “It’s worth a try, Preston. Our men won’t be able to keep up this pace. We’re closest to the portal, we’re their first stop. They will come for us and our livestock. Start digging at the East gate and work around towards the main gate. Let me worry about the holy water.”
“Okay,” Preston nods. “We’ll start immediately.”
“I’ll ask all available pack members to help with the digging,” I reply. “And I’m opening the armoury. It’s time to dust off the crossbows and wooden arrows. It will be less strenuous on our men.”
“Thank you, sir,” Preston smiles tiredly.
I start my bike and drive home. Grandpa Jack will know somebody who can help us with the holy water.
After talking to Gramps, I shower and lie down next to Ariella. The pain medication Mayer gave her placed her into a deep sleep and she does not even stir when I gently stroke her cheek.
I nearly lost her today … the thought strikes me like lightning, and I press my fist against my mouth to stifle a sob. I never, never want to relive that moment when she went limp in my arms.
I place my hand on her chest to feel her heart beating. I will always remember how I felt when it stopped. I could not breathe, and the anxiety was a beast.
I felt worse than when my mother and brother died. Worse than when Father ended up paralysed.
I nearly lost her before I even got to know her. Before I could make her happy and see her smile.
Gently, I kiss her cheek and close my eyes. I should rest, just for a minute. Then I must return to the East gate and help. With her heart beating under my fingertips, I let the fatigue take over.
Ariella POV
My mind is foggy, and my eyelids are heavy but at least, I do not feel any pain. It is dark outside, and I have no idea what time it is.
Cole is sleeping soundly beside me, and I glide my fingers through his silky hair. He is so gorgeous. Kind, selfless and compassionate. An unknown warmth spreads through me as I look at him. I cannot remember my life in the heavenly realm, but I can hardly imagine that it could be better than this.
I know my purpose is to kill the vampire king, but Cole … he is my destiny. When he told me we were mates, it explained the chemistry between us. But this warmth, this contentment I am feeling right now, it is new, and it is delightful.
He stirs a little when I glide my hand over his chest. My hand continues the path down to his hips and thighs. I feel his erection growing and I slip my hand into his shorts. He moans softly when I gently stroke him.
An intense desire to please him overwhelms me and I gently take his p***s out of his pants. I move down and Cole groans when I take him into my mouth. I start slowly. Sucking and rolling my tongue over his tip. I can feel him grow bigger and harder in my mouth and I increase my rhythm.
“Ariella,” his voice is thick with sleep. “What are you doing?”
As a reply, I add my hand to the mix. Stroking him while sucking.
“You shouldn’t,” he pants, gripping my hair. “You’re hurt.”
“I’m not,” I stop only long enough to reply before continuing. He gasps for air and the muscles in his legs stiffen, urging me to continue.
“Ariella … ahhh,” his release explodes into my mouth, and I take what he gives me until his muscles relax.
“I’m not complaining,” he takes me by the arms and pulls me up onto his chest. “But you’re hurt and shouldn’t …”
“I’m fine, Cole,” I reassure him as I roll off his chest and lay on my side to look at him. “No more pain. I slept it off.”
“You slept it off?” He raises his eyebrows and pulls me closer. “Just like that?”
“Just like that,” I push him away gently.
“What’s wrong?” He frowns. “Why are you pushing me away?”
“I want to talk,” I take his hand and kiss his knuckles.
“Should I be worried?” His hand stiffens in mine.
“No, no,” I say quickly. “I … uhm, do you want children?”
“Yes, I do. Don’t you?” He lifts his torso and supports himself on his elbow. “What’s this about?”
“We’re about to start our lives together, but we don’t know each other at all,” I gently stroke his cheek. “I want to know you.”
“Okay,” he smirks and lays down again. “But how’s this going to work? You can’t remember anything.”
“I don’t know who I was as an angel,” I intertwine our fingers. “But I know who I want to be as a human. And to answer your question, I don’t know if I want children, because well, I have no idea what’s it about. I don’t know the first thing.”
“Neither do I,” he chuckles. “But thanks to Ruth, I know plenty of moody teenagers.”
“I think I would like children,” I lose myself in his blue eyes. “Mini Coles. It will be fun.”
“Or mini Ariellas,” he smirks. “That will be fun too.”
“I’m not fun,” I wrinkle my nose and he chuckles softly.
As we continue our conversation, the warmth in my heart grows. Spending an eternity with this man will be a blessing.
“I can’t wait to become your Luna,” I sigh and nestle closer to him. “It’s going …”
“What the hell?” The door bursts open and Ruth towers over us. “It’s inauguration day! Your wedding day. Cole, you’re not supposed to see her before the time. It’s bad luck.”
“We’re not doing anything,” Cole protests and throws the cover off us. “See? We’re fully clothed.”
“Get out, you mongrel,” Ruth grabs a pillow and starts beating him with it. “Get out.”
“I’m going, I’m going,” he laughs heartily as he jumps out of bed and dashes for the door.
“Of all the things,” Ruth sighs, shaking her head.
“Come on, Ariella,” she turns to me. “Get up and get ready. We’re going shopping.”
