Chapter 8

"Jer wait!" "What now?" he asked exasperatedly. "Um...." "Princess stop stalling, I'll only be a minute," he promised. "But-"I started. "Aurora I'm only trying to help, let me just get this over with okay?" The fact that he used my actual name made me shut my mouth. He got up and walked down the bleachers over to where Simran and her friends sat as they watched the football team practice, although I felt like she was watching us more than she was watching the guys. I watched closely as he stopped in front of her with a blank expression. He talked to her slowly like she was a child and pointed in my direction a few times causing me to blush as people started to look at me. Simran glared at me every chance she could get as Jer continued with his very....very long warning. When he was done he sighed and walked back to me. "Well?"I asked. "She promised to leave you alone." "Really?" "Yes. Now," pulling a book out of his bag "let's sit in silence as you eat and I read okay?" he asked now talking to me like I was a child. I nodded and went back to eating my grapes. I couldn't help but glance at Simran, she already looking at me and when our gazes met she smirked. I knew getting her off my back wouldn't be so easy. *** It was the period after lunch and I was walking to my locker to get my books but before I could two arms latched onto either one of mine. I looked to either side of me to see Simran's friends. My face paled and I started to struggle. "Woah, calm down." the blonde one said. "Yeah, I’m Mona and that’s Chrissy, we're not going to hurt you." said the one with jet black hair. Chrissy turned to her. “Why would you introduce us? What do you think this is?” “I dunno, I’ve never kidnapped someone before!” she said. While they were distracted I tried again to pull my arms for their hold. "Listen. If Simran can't get Jer away from you, she's going to get you away from Jer. She has something she wants to show and you're coming whether you like it or not."Blondie said. They both let me go suddenly. Blondie called out to someone and out of nowhere some bulky football player came towards me and threw me across his shoulder. "What the fish sticks is going on?" I asked as I banged against hulk's back. "We’re only trying to help you." the one with black here told me. Knowing my efforts were in vain I stopped trying to struggle and sighed. Might as well enjoy the ride. I heard a squeaky metal door open and I knew that we were going to the back of the school. When we walked out I heard some voices. I was slowly dropped to the ground and forcefully turned around. What I saw made my heart break just a little. Jer. Jer was with a few guys doing drugs...again. I watched as he sniffed a white substance lined out on the bench table. "Jer?"I asked in a quiet voice but I knew he still heard me cos he quickly turned in my direction, his eyes widening. "Aurora..." he tried to walk towards me but I stepped back. I shook my head and pushed past Simran's minions and Hulk. I can't believe this. He was lying to me the whole time. I should have known he was lying when he told me him getting high was just a one-time thing. But even though I had some doubt I pushed it to the back of my head because I finally had a friend. I slowly entered my Bio class twenty minutes late. The teacher saw the look on my face and just told me to sit down. It was rare anyone saw me frown and so when they did they knew not to bother me. I tried to listen in class but my thoughts always went to back to seeing Jer sniffing that poison. Doesn't he know how bad that is for him? After class I quickly packed my stuff, ready to leave so I could just go to my next class then go home. I just wanted to get this day over with. "Aurora please wait after class, "Mr. Roger called. I sighed as I waited for everyone to leave. When there were only three people left in the class he began to talk. "Hey, Aurora are you okay?" he asked. I nodded. "Well just try to get to class on time okay?" "Yes, sir, "I mumbled before leaving quickly. It was a good thing I was a teachers' pet because with how I've been with my classes lately, I would have gotten detention by now. As I walked into Lit I wasn't surprised that Jer wasn't there. He was probably dealing drugs or something. After school, I walked out of the school with my head down. I heard someone call my name. "Hey, Aurora!" I turned to see Simran smirking at me with her arms crossed. Her friends stood with her in front of her car. Blondie wiggled her fingers at me with her own smirk while the one with black her offered an apologetic smile ."Looks like this “friendship” between you and Jer is over." I shrugged and turned to walk away. "It's too bad Aurora, it just means that no matter how hard you try to be sweet and happy, no one will ever be your friend, you'll be forever alone!" She called dramatically and laughed as I walked out of the school compound. I sighed knowing she was probably right. Once I got home I called Millie to come over. "What's up?" she asked as I opened the door for her. "Jer." She grimaced."What has he done now?" she asked walking me to the couch. "He was at the back of the school getting high, Millie! I can't believe this. He told me it was a one-time thing and I believed him. I'm so stupid. He's my first real friend at school since Ian and I was happy. He even stood up for me against Simran!"I told her. "I know, I know. It's not fair but Rory you can't blame yourself for believing him! I genuinely think Jer is a good guy but maybe he's just caught up with the wrong people. Ever thought of that?" she asked. I shook my head slowly. Maybe she was right. Jer seemed like a smart guy and maybe he was just mixed up with the wrong crowd, he did say his cousin was a drug dealer or something. But then again, he lied to me again. "I guess, maybe you’re right, but that doesn’t excuse the fact that he lied to me. How am I meant to trust him when he's willing to lie to my face. You should have seen the way he looked straight into my eyes the last time and said that that was the only time he had ever been stoned. I can't be friends with someone like that." She nodded. "Hey, how about we watch a few movies and eat junk food?" she asked changing the subject. "Disney movies?"I asked piping up. She nodded. "Okay," I whispered. She ran back to her house to get as much junk food as she could and I went to change into my pj's even though it was four in the afternoon. We watched Frozen, Mulan, and Pocahontas before my Dad came home with a box of pizza. Millie had dinner with us before leaving for her house. "So how was school today?"My dad asked as he washed the dishes and I dried. I shrugged. "Fine, I guess." He paused and stared at me intently. "Since when does Aurora Winters reply to that question with a shrug and ‘fine, I guess’, it's usually, 'Omg Dad! It was like so amazing!' " he said the last part in a high pitched voice. I could help but giggle, my dad always knew how to cheer me up even if he didn't know why I was feeling down. "I know, I know just feeling a bit down, "I said. "Hmmm seems like you've been feeling down quite a bit since school started this year....any particular reason." Jer. "To be honest Dad, I don't even know." "Okay how about I finish up and you get to bed," he said grabbing the dishcloth from me. I nodded before giving him a quick kiss. "Night Dad." "Night sweetheart." I was almost eighteen and it was Friday night, yet my Dad still made me go to bed at nine. I shook my head as ran up the stairs, happy to finally end this terrible day.
