Chapter 6

I quickly walked to my first class after going to my locker. I had avoided Jer so far but it was only first period so that wasn't saying much. I entered the classroom and was relieved that I didn't have this class with Jer. I had American Literature after and was distraught. On the one hand, I didn't want to skip because I never skipped class and it's a bad thing to do and I'm not a bad person but on the other hand I would have to work on the project with Jer. I couldn't go home because my Dad told me I had to go to school. So ultimately I was screwed. I slowly walked to Lit dreading going inside. An idea popped into my head just as I entered and quickly walked to the teacher with a pained expression. "Um, sir?"I said quietly. He looked up and furrowed his eyebrows. "You okay?" I glance around and spotted Jer sitting his seat reading a book. I kinda felt bad for just leaving him, I mean this was an important project, how were we meant to finish it if I was avoiding him. "Uh, I-i kind of have cramps, can I got to the restroom?"I whispered discreetly touching my stomach and screwing up my face to make it believable. He cringed and nodded. "Yeah sure, take as long as you need," he said. I gave him a pained smile before scurrying out of the class. I sighed in relief and walked to the restroom. *** At lunchtime, I decided to go to the library instead of sitting in my normal seat at the bleachers knowing he'd be there and by the end of the day I had successfully avoided Jer. I walked out of the school ready to walk home when someone grabbed my arm. "What the hell is going on?"Jer asked spinning me around. I removed my hand from his hold and took a step back. "I-I'm going home." "You know that's not what I meant Princess." "What do you mean then?" I asked dumbly. "You haven't been in school for the last two days, when you finally show up to school you don't show up for Lit, I don't see you at lunch and now you're going home when we’re meant to work on our project." "W-well I was feeling sick."I shrugged. "You don't look sick to me Princess. Just tell me what's going on?" I bit my lip as I look up at him. I couldn't believe this guy was a drug dealer, he actually seemed like he cared about school and education. His features morphed into one of realization. "What?"I ask quietly. "You heard something, didn't you? About me? That's why you're avoiding me." I stayed silent biting my lip. He sniffed and nodded. "Wanna know how I know? The way you're looking at me. I thought you were the one person who didn't think of me like I'm this, this delinquent. You were the only one who talked to me while everyone else was too scared to, you were the only one who stood up to me." he said. "On that first day you walked up to me and told me to get up from your seat, I was surprised, no one in this school had ever talked to me like that. I thought I had finally found someone who saw me as an actual person but I guess I was wrong." He turned away but I pulled him back before he could. "Jer what was I supposed to think huh? Last week at lunch were you or were you not high?" I asked crossing my arms. Now aware of the fact that people walking by were staring but didn't care. He bit his lip and looked down. "Exactly." It was my turn to turn my back on him but of course, he spun me around again. "Okay, I-" he stopped noticing that the people watching before pulling me into a corner. "I was high but-but you need to let me explain." he pleaded. "Why? Why should I believe anything you say? There you were making me feel bad when you are actually dealing drugs." "Hey, hey who said anything about dealing drugs, I admitted I was high not that I dealt drugs." "So you don't deal them?" "Well, technically I do-" "Okay, I'm leaving you're just trying to waste my time." "No! Let me explain." I crossed my arms again and raised an eyebrow. He sighed and looked down."My cousin Derrick deals them and he asked me to sell some at our school, I know it's wrong but I was just helping him out and I dunno why I smoked too, I just did. I'm sorry but that was the only time I've ever been high." he said looking me in the eye. "Really?"I asked unsurely. He nodded. "Okay," I said. "Will you stop ignoring me?" "Will you stop selling drugs for your cousin?"I asked. He scratched his neck and sighed. "Yeah." I smiled. "Okay let's get on with that project then," I said. He blew out a relieved breath and nodded. "Let's go." The car park was almost empty when we left. "Oh. My. God."I said as I stopped in my tracks. "What now?"Jer whined. "Is that yours?"I whispered excitedly. I think he mistook my excitement for fear and groaned. "Please don't tell me you're scared." "Scared? No way."I ran over to the black and gray motorbike and admired it."Shiny." "Don't touch," he said pulling my hand away. I went to use my other hand. "Princess stop!" "But it's so shiny "I pouted. He rolled his eyes. "Here," he said passing me a helmet from the helmet compartment. He pulled another for himself before closing the compartment. I placed the helmet on my head and Jer rolled up the visor. He grabbed both our bags and placed them in the compartment. He got on the bike and held out his hand. I grabbed it and with his help, I got on. I squealed and clapped. "This is so exciting!" "Would you just wrap your arms around the waist? Don't want you flying off." He revved the engine and we were off. I noticed that one of the cars left belonged to Simran who stood leaning against it with her friends. She watched us as we left the parking lot. I knew that this wasn't going to go down well with her. Forgetting about her I smiled as the breeze ran through my hair. I watched as everything went by in a blur. All I could see were streaks and lights and it was beautiful. I couldn't stop the grin that was growing wider and wider on my face. I was sad when we finally made it to the library. "Hey, could you maybe let go?"Jer asked. I realized I was still holding him tightly two minutes after we had stopped. I blushed quickly letting go and tried to get off the bike but ended up falling face first on the ground and to make things worse my sundress had blown up as I fell and was merely covering my butt revealing my Spongebob knickers. Somebody just kill me now. I had just embarrassed myself more than I thought possible in less than ten seconds. I quickly sat up and two strong arms pulled me up by my armpits. I didn't turn around to look at him and just stood still in embarrassment. "You okay?"He asked. I nodded still not turning to him. "Are you sure?" he asked walking in front of me. I nodded looking down. "Okay." he said unsurely."Let's go then." I followed him into the library. He stopped at the door and turned around. "Hey, Princess?" "Yeah?"I asked. "Spongebob? I dunno I just felt like you were more of a Hello Kitty type of girl," he smirked. My face turned bright red as he held the door open for me, I walked past with my head down. *** When we thought we had done enough, we packed up to go home. I was pretty excited to go on the motorcycle again. Hopefully, when I got off I wouldn't embarrass myself. I gave him my address and we were off. When we were a few houses away from his house he slowed to a stop. Before I could try and get down he stopped me. "Let me help, seeing your cartoon themed underwear once was enough for me." "Oh shut up, "I said blushing again. He held out his hand and I grabbed jumping off. I pouted again as I stared at his bike. "What?" he asked. "I wish the ride to my house was longer." "Why? Cos you love spending time with me?" he asked cockily. "No Jer, because I liked the bike ride." "Well how about I take you to school on it tomorrow?" he asked. "What really?"I asked excitedly. He nodded. "Yay!"I clapped my hands."Thanks, Jer." "No prob." he said amused."I'll see you tomorrow right?" he asked. I nodded. He revved the engine. "Bye!," I said over the noise and he nodded before zooming off. I grinned walking the rest of the way home.
