Chapter 1
Samantha** I woke up to a faint light illuminating from the window and casting it's rays on my eyes. Due to the impact, I fluttered my eyes repeatedly to adjust to the light using the back of my palm to rub my eyes as I stretched on the bed sitting up. I stared at my alarm and the time read 6:53... Great!! Well, my alarm was scheduled to beep at 7:am and here I am all wide awake 7 minutes before my alarm would actually ring. That was the same process every day! I woke up before the alarm would ring due to years of sleeping late and getting up early to continue the routine over and over again. My weekly routine was always the same but not actually the same. I had to attend a series of board meetings for the growth of the allianced company, and I also had to look over the affairs of my own company which was actually a task too many for me. Dang it!! But I loved my job, my life and who I had eventually turned out to be. A successful career woman, that's all I've ever hoped for. I checked my phone for any appointments today and saw that I had to attend a board meeting by 8am. Good thing for having harnessed waking up early. Let's do a little Introduction here, shall we? Well, I'm Samantha Loomis. Daughter of Mr and Mrs Loomis, I wasn't that well to do kid that had everything I wanted at my beck and call and heaven knows how much I detested that life. That's why, the minute I was out of school.... I strived to make it and succeed no matter what. It wasn't a bed of roses as I started from scratch and had no one to back me up or help me out but I guess fate was in sync with me. Starting my own business and loosing my dada was enough to make me back down and quit but I resolved that only one thing was needed and accepted in my life and that thing was success. I kept reminiscing on my past life till I heard my phone buzzing and that was what pulled me out of my ocean of thoughts and saved me from drowning. I was so deep in thoughts, a beep from my phone jerked me out of my thoughts to reality. If this call wasn't important or worth it, whoever called me by this time was surely going to pay for it. I picked up my phone and looked at the caller id. It was none else than my business partner Mr Liam. Just for the record, we never ever agreed on anything before, so would he be disturbing my phone . On the third ring, I hit the answer button on my phone and the conversation ensued. Yeah, you might ask why I picked it specifically on the third ring... Well, it was a long time rule. If you pick a call at the first ring, it means you were expecting the person's call and hell no!! I wasn't expecting your call so why should i pick up so fast. "Hello, Mr Liam." I greeted as the kine connected and the voice of the person on the other end of the line could be heard. "Good morning, Miss Samantha." Liam greeted and i was tired of the call already. "I just wanted to be sure that the board meeting slated for today hasn't been called off." He stated at the other end of the call and all I could do was roll my eyes in disgust. Liam was one of those company owners that tried to woo me but I kept shutting them out because... Remember I said Success. I didn't want to be hooked to anyone at least not for the time being but even if I wanted to, it could never be Liam. Never and more Emphasis on Never!!! Because why would I even stoop that low, in the tech industry and outside of the tech world, I've seen a lot more men of affluence and then I would be stopping for a worthless and stupid, irresponsible asshole. Sorry for the vulgar words used but that's all Liam deserved anyways. Another Reason was because I was more successful than him and I could never settle for less. I needed someone above me, someone that could actually inspire me but Liam was one of those suitors that wouldn't back off even after you shoot them red signals. Well, keep joking with your feelings brother. I don't care less. "Miss Samantha?." He called but I was too bored to answer. Instead I grabbed my laptop and logged on to the board platform to confirm the thoughts I had that I knew were correct. "Miss Samantha, are you there?." He called and I cleared my throat. "Yes Liam, I'm still on the line. Forgive my muteness, I just checked to confirm if the board meeting has been called and there's no such thing which confirms that the board meeting would very much be in progress today. And besides, if it had been called... I'm not the best person in the position to answer that. You could just directly call the board director. " I suggested, sarcasm dripping from my voice as I attempted to end the calm but then his voice came. "Samantha, why are you doing this to me?. " He asked in a low and slow voice. I knew by instinct and real life events that it would boil down to this. "I'm sorry Mr Liam but I don't really understand what you mean. " I reiterated feigning ignorance. "Samantha, I'm very sure you understood what I'm talking about but that's by the way. How was your night?." He asked and i heaved a sigh of relief. Thank goodness he still had the brains to cut that conversation he was trying to bring up. Else, I might as well poured a little bit of sarcasm note on him. The part that boiled me most and annoyed me about Liam was the fact that he had a girlfriend and a fiancee and they were two different people. Yeah!! You heard that right! So even if I decided to count him worry, what status am I going to be recorded in? Side chick girlfriend? Some mem are pathetic and he better plea to his personal god that I don't find out who his fiancee is else the proposed wedding would be called off. You might be wondering how I know all these, but I prefer to answer that I'm so good at my job. "Samantha?." He called again. Gosh, I keep forgetting he's still on the line. Thank God, I'm not thinking out loud. "Well, Mr Liam my night was awesome and I'm guessing that since you're able to ask how my night was that yours was pleasant." I stated determined to end the call but this man would never get the hint. "Of course, mine was pleasant. I dreamt of you Samantha." Okay, that's it!! End of call!! And i hit the end button tossing the phone away from me. But as I made to stand up from the bed, my phone began buzzing again. Who the hell again? Why would they not let me be? It had better not be Liam else hell and fire would break lose for him as I'm not in the mood for any lovey and dovey talk this morning. This lovely morning!! He had already messed it up enough.
