I had been starving and hadn't realized it due to the circumstances. Now that I had sat down specifically to eat, I was famished and would've preferred to not have four unique sets of eyes trained on me while I tried to chew each morsel as gracefully as I could muster.
Once I was done, I looked up at each of them one by one and decided Arin was the one I trusted the most for the favor I was about to ask. But before I could, Vagus spoke up in a complaint.
"I see the cogwheels turning in your pretty ginger head, Sugar. Don't pick the one I think you are about to pick, so soon. Give the rest of us a chance." Followed by his characteristic smirk and wink.
'Yes, I was sure Arin was the perfect choice.'
I took a deep breath and asked Arin, "If you don't mind, I'd like that house tour now."
He nodded with a negligible smile and I nearly regretted asking him due to the triumphant look he gave the other three when he thought I wasn't looking.
Devgan pushed back his chair and stood up, leaving the room without a word. One moment later we heard a bang on the backdoor that led to the outside.
Kata had also stood up and turned toward the kitchen. I could sense his disappointment at not being chosen. And I nearly felt bad for not asking him instead. But he had a habit of talking in philosophical riddles and I needed straight facts.
Vagus on the other hand was persistent, "You mind two tour guides, would you, Princess?"
"I'd rather you first learn my name before telling me the layout of the house," I spoke before asking Arin to lead the way.
What had fate gotten me into?

Alpha Arin Akoni's POV:
⛰️⛰️
I led the pretty doctor outside as Rex tried to join us. It was so satisfying to watch her refuse him and he could not do anything about it, because he needed to be in her good book just as much as the next guy.
I knew I had a certain effect on people. Everyone seemed to trust me more and quicker than normal. I liked to believe it was a gift from the Moon Goddess.
And this gift was going to help me befriend the key and get out of this prison before the rest.
I told her about the bedrooms as they were the most recognizable for her.
"Yours is the room you woke up in. You can redecorate however you like from the supply room, which you have seen as well. The room to the right of yours is Devgan's and to the left of yours is mine. Feel free to knock and seek help whenever you need." I tried to smile and sound welcoming but not overly so. I needed her to accept my friendship on her own terms.
"The room in front of mine is Rex's and the one across Devgan belongs to Hīrō. And no, we did not choose our rooms, they were preset according to us before we came here. That is how we know it is the Moon Goddess who chose this test for us." I tried to explain without saying too much too soon.
Of course, I believed it was a test. Despite Devgan being adamant about it being a prison that we needed to break out of, I was sure it was just a test that we needed to pass to get back to our friends and families.
"I don't understand why I am here. The room was empty too." She said. Her cute eyebrows knit together in an adorable frown. I felt the need to ease her immediately.
"Honestly, I don't have any clue either. But we will figure it out. That's my promise to you." I held her soft hand in mine. I knew it was too soon, but I didn't want to spend one more moment that absolutely necessary in this place.
She didn't pull away her hand, but I could hear her heart speeding up and a delicious blush spread to her ears.
I decided to keep holding her hand as I took her to the basement.
"Should I really trust a stranger to lead me into his basement?" She joked.
Good. Joking meant she was beginning to feel comfortable with me.
"It is not just my basement, for starters. And, you knew you could trust me when you chose me as your tour guide. Plus, what you find there might surprise you." What prompted it, I don't know, but I decided to loosen up a little and give her a proper smile. Maybe because she was doing the same for me too.
"You know that's exactly what a serial killer would say if they wanted their victim to go to the basement of their own free will." She smiled, making my smile widen.

His smile gave me an intoxicating feeling.
I loved that I was the one who caused a serious man to smile. Especially after the way my life was dealing with me, this little thing felt huge.
"I swear I am not a serial killer." He spoke through his smile as we stepped down the staircase.
"That's exactly what a serial killer would say too." I said barely holding my laughter.
He was about to respond when a loud howl pierced the air. It came from the forest, I was sure of it. But it sounded too close. Vagud had said something about the coyotes but they don't howl like that. It sounded like a wolf, huge and nearby. I felt chills run down my spine.
"What was that?" I asked, my eyes widening when I realized another important thing, "Didn't Devgan go outside? Will he be safe?"
"He'll be fine. He is probably back, anyways." He dismissed my worry but I couldn't let go of the howl I had heard. I wasn't aware that there were bigger predators in the forest. How did they get here? Did the Moon lady bring them here too? If so, why? Was Devgan right? Was it really a prison?
But I couldn't ask any of that to Arin. The bad blood between the two was clear as day.
I took a deep breath, "Let's carry on, shall we?"
He was eager to lead me downstairs and I followed.
The moment we reached and he pressed a button to light up the place, my eyes went as wide as saucers and my jaw dropped at the sight.
Whatever I was expecting, it was far from what actually awaited me there.
I glanced at Arin beside me, who was enjoying my reaction, and back at the view in front of my disbelieving eyes.
