Elvia felt the empty glass slip from her hand and smash to pieces on the floor, again, dragging the attention of other customers to their table. She stared intently at the man, trying to figure if she heard him well or she was just hallucinating, while completely ignoring the broken glass.
“I never knew you were this clumsy due to your razor-sharp mouth.
Did he just command her to be his girlfriend? She didn’t know whether to laugh at the position she was in for this proud brat to walk up to her and spew nonsense, or to cry about how unfortunate she turned out.
“And what in hell made you think that I would blindly obey you like someone who doesn’t have rights or know them?” she asked him with a voice that demanded answers. She didn’t know what even made him walk up to her in the first place. Did she look like a woman who would eagerly jump at his outrageous offer?
“Well, you obviously just got dumped, and anyone with common sense could see that you are bent on making your ex-boyfriend regret his decision.” The man pulled up his lips in a mischievous smirk, as he was sure he hit the nail on the head.
Elvia raised her eyebrow at him, impressed at his ability, at both figuring things out, and eavesdropping. He equally looked at her with the smirk dancing on his face, not affected with the expressions she wore on her face.
“So, I’m still waiting for a response.” He stated.
“And what are you planning to achieve by initiating this relationship?” she asked, ignoring his remark. She couldn’t be as naïve as believing that he was doing it out of pity. ‘I mean, I barely know him’ she thought.
He gave a smug smile.
“Guess she’s smarter than I thought.” She couldn’t point out if that was a compliment or sarcasm, but she wasn’t a child not to know that he was up to something. He wouldn’t even be here if he didn’t have something to gain from all this, and that was on period.
“So tell me, what’s your gain?” She asked, not wanting to beat around the bush.
He shrugged, acting nonchalant. “just be my girlfriend, act the part nicely, and done.” He said.
“And what reasonable explanation are you giving in order for me to do this?” she asked with her brows drawn together in a slight frown. It was so unbelievable that with such face, he didn’t have a girlfriend. Or else he was gay? She quickly snapped her head at him and narrowed her eyes, observing him closely.
“You don’t have to know” he said in a tone that didn’t demand questions.
“Then I don’t see why we are holding this conversation.” She stated, and quickly got up from her seat, because she didn’t plan to let the man take control of their discussion. He walked up to her, and that obviously means that he needed her more. They were going to do this her way, or not at all.
She was going to find a better way to prove to Clinton that breaking up with her was his loss.
The man shook his head and smiled, and nodded his head, not believing that the girl just turned him down.
He smirked in amusement; “I can’t believe a girl can be this stubborn” he uttered. “okay, I just need someone to show my family. Hope that’s enough?”
“NO. why don’t you have a girlfriend? Are you gay?” Elvia asked while she took her seat again, as she couldn’t hold in her curiosity anymore.
The man looked at her, completely thrown off guard at her question. “hahahahahaha” the man tried to stop himself, but ended up letting out a peal of laughter.
“Unbelievable! You’re crazier than I thought” he said, in the middle of his laughter.
This action made Elvia feel more irritated than she already was.
“Is that all you have to say? I don’t have time to spare doing nothing, so if you are done, I will be leaving now.” And she stood up to leave.
Once again, the man held her hand and stopped her from leaving by pulling her back to her chair.
“Let’s not be in so much of a hurry now” he said. “I am Damon Ryker” he extended his hand for a shake.
She stared at his hand for a while, and decided to ignore it.
“So, continue speaking Mr. Ryker. I am waiting for your answer, or you can just forget that this conversation was held.” She said in a voice that relayed her irritation.
“Woah…. Tigress. Very invisible” he said sarcastically while smirking, and then he suddenly turned serious, “My family has been pointing out the need for a girl in my life, and went as far as threatening me with my inheritance.” and then he scanned the place, making sure that their conversation went unheard by anyone aside them.
Elvia scanned him with narrow eyes, wondering if what he said was true.
But judging by his looks and clothes, she could only assume that he was telling the truth.
“okay, easy task, but you are going to have to pay me” she said, surprised but not regretful that she uttered such words.
“well, what’s in it for you then?” he asked, giving her an opportunity for negotiation.
She smirked, as she thought of something, “the inheritance you speak of, I want a share in it.” She said looking directly at him. She didn’t see anything wrong with her negotiation, as she was only killing two birds with one stone.
“I am sure it must be a huge inheritance that made you so desperate for this kind of solution.”
Damon laughed once again.
“you are going to have to be more serious than this. I’m running out of time, or maybe this is a prank and that’s why you aren’t accepting my decision for a pay.” She said, while weighing the man with her eyes.
“Wow…just wow. I didn’t know there was such a feisty woman who could speak to me like this. First, you assumed and asked if I was gay, and now you are asking for a share in my inheritance. Seriously?” he said, while looking bewildered that she could say such.
“I am very serious, in fact, I should be taking everything I can lay my hands on in this deal, and I only asked for a share. So, Mr. Ryker, if you don’t agree with my terms then excuse me, because I have to leave now. You can wait for the next available woman you can lay down your offer to and come to an agreement with her.” She said and stood up.
This time, she purposely flung her hand while turning around in a way that he could hold it to stop her.
