Sofia couldn't move.
The man standing across the street was someone she had spent years trying to forget.
His name was Daniel.
Once, he had been an important part of her life. But that chapter had ended badly, leaving behind memories Sofia never wanted to revisit.
Now he was standing in front of her again.
“Sofia,” Daniel said quietly.
Adrian stepped closer to her.
“Are you okay?”
Sofia nodded, but Adrian could see that she wasn't.
Daniel looked at Adrian, then back at Sofia.
“I've been looking for you.”
Sofia's expression hardened.
“Why?”
“There are things you need to know.”
“I don't want to know anything.”
Daniel sighed.
“I understand. But you deserve to hear the truth.”
Adrian looked at Sofia.
“If you want to leave, we can leave.”
She looked at him.
His voice was calm. He wasn't demanding an explanation. He wasn't forcing her to stay.
For the first time that morning, Sofia felt like she could breathe again.
“Give me five minutes,” she whispered.
Adrian nodded.
“I'll be right here.”
Sofia followed Daniel a short distance away.
“What do you want?” she asked.
Daniel reached into his jacket and pulled out an old envelope.
“This belongs to you.”
Sofia stared at it.
Her name was written across the front.
Her hands trembled as she took it.
“Where did you get this?”
“It was meant to reach you years ago.”
“Why didn't it?”
Daniel looked away.
“Because I was afraid.”
Sofia stared at him.
“Afraid of what?”
“Of what would happen if you knew the truth.”
Her heart began pounding.
“What truth?”
Daniel didn't answer immediately.
Instead, he looked toward Adrian, who was waiting patiently nearby.
“You finally found someone else,” he said.
Sofia frowned.
“What does that have to do with anything?”
“Everything.”
Daniel took a step backward.
“Read the letter. Then you'll understand.”
Before Sofia could ask another question, Daniel turned and walked away.
“Daniel!”
He didn't stop.
Sofia looked down at the envelope in her hands.
She could feel that whatever was inside had the power to change everything.
She returned to Adrian.
He immediately noticed the envelope.
“What is it?”
“I don't know.”
“Do you want me to stay with you while you read it?”
Sofia looked into his eyes.
“Yes.”
They walked to a quiet bench near the shore.
Sofia sat down.
Adrian sat beside her.
Slowly, she opened the envelope.
Inside was a single sheet of paper.
She began reading.
Her eyes moved across the first few lines.
Then she stopped.
Her face went pale.
Adrian reached for her hand.
“Sofia?”
She couldn't speak.
“What does it say?”
Sofia looked at him, tears beginning to fill her eyes.
“It says…”
Her voice broke.
“It says my mother knew the truth all along.”
Adrian's expression changed.
Sofia stared at the letter again.
Suddenly, the past she had buried wasn't just coming back.
It was opening a door she had never known existed.
And behind that door was a truth that could change everything she believed about her life.
