Naomi stood quietly in the middle of the massive bedroom, her heart beating faster than usual.
The room was bigger than the entire apartment she used to live in. The bed alone looked large enough for four people. Gold lamps glowed softly beside the bed, and the floor-to-ceiling windows revealed the glittering city lights below.
“This is… my room?” Naomi whispered to herself.
She still couldn't believe everything that had happened in just a few days. One moment she had been worrying about her father’s hospital bills… and the next, she was living in the mansion of one of the richest men in the city.
Alexander King.
Her husband.
The thought still felt strange.
Naomi placed her small suitcase near the wardrobe when suddenly the door opened.
She turned quickly.
Alexander walked in.
He looked as calm and cold as always, wearing a black shirt with the top button undone. His sharp eyes landed on her immediately.
“You’re still awake,” he said in a deep voice.
Naomi straightened nervously. “I… I was just looking around.”
Alexander stepped further into the room.
For a moment, the silence between them felt heavy.
Then he spoke again.
“Relax. I’m not here to interrogate you.”
Naomi looked down, slightly embarrassed.
“I know this is new for you,” Alexander continued. “But you need to understand something.”
She slowly looked up.
“This marriage is only a contract,” he said coldly. “You will live here, act as my wife in public, and follow the rules of this house.”
Naomi swallowed.
“And the rules?” she asked softly.
Alexander walked closer, stopping only a few steps away from her.
His tall figure made her feel small.
“The most important rule,” he said quietly, “is that you stay out of my personal life.”
Naomi frowned slightly. “Your personal life?”
Alexander’s expression didn’t change.
“Yes. I don’t like unnecessary complications.”
For some reason, those words made Naomi’s chest feel tight.
She forced a small smile. “Don’t worry. I didn’t marry you for love, remember?”
For the first time, Alexander’s eyes flickered with something unreadable.
“Good,” he said.
Then he turned toward the door.
But before leaving, he paused.
“One more thing.”
Naomi looked at him again.
“Tomorrow night, you’ll attend a business dinner with me.”
Her eyes widened.
“A dinner?”
“Yes,” Alexander said calmly. “As my wife.”
Naomi’s stomach twisted with nervousness.
She had no idea what kind of world she had just stepped into.
But something told her that tomorrow night would change everything.
Alexander opened the door.
“Be ready by seven.”
Then he left.
Naomi stood there alone again.
Her new life had only just begun… and already it felt like a storm was coming.
