Chapter 1
This morning, Sophia was tidying up the living room with her big stomach. She was three months pregnant, however, her mother-in-law kept mistreating her whenever her son, Sophia's husband, was off on business trips.
“Didn’t I tell you to be fast with this? Why is it still taking such a long time?! Don't you know there's something you're supposed to do after this?” Isabella daggered her cold eyes at the twenty-two-year-old, innocent-looking, tired girl.
Sophia's eyes narrowed as she raised them up, “I'm trying my best, Mom. You know I'm pregnant and I can't work faster than you expect of me to do,” she replied, her voice was calm and respectful, “but if it's urgent, you can ask Ava to do it.” She added, referring to her sister-in-law.
Isabella glared at her and spat, disdainfully, “Pregnant, my foot! Do you think you are the first person to become or will ever become pregnant in this lifetime?! And who are you to tell me who I should send on my errands?”
Sophia gently shook her head and opened her mouth to explain what she had meant, but before words came out from her mouth, Isabella gave her a resounding slap that sent her gracelessly to the ground.
“Ahh! It hurts!” Sophia cried aloud in pain, feeling blood gushing out from her vaginal. “Help me! My baby!” Tears streamed down her face as she lay on the ground, helplessly.
Isabella stood there, watching her with a satisfied expression as blood was gushing out. She didn't help. Instead, she said, “Let's see who is going to help me now,” she mocked, “Ethan is on a business trip and won't be back until tomorrow.”
Sophia's eyes were already closing slightly as she held her stomach, crying in pain. “My baby, please, help. It's innocent,” her voice was crashing down.
Just then, the door swung open wide, and a young, vibrant man dressed in a gray suit, holding a suitcase, walked in and announced with a surprised tone, “ Everyone, I'm back early today.”
Immediately, Isabella saw him and recognized it was his son, Ethan Marcus, Sophia's husband; she dramatically rushed to him, wearing a worried and concerned expression.
“Thank goodness, you came at the right time, Ethan,” she hurriedly spoke, “Sophia was mopping the floor, and I tried to stop her, letting her know she's pregnant, but you know how stubborn pregnant women are at times, she refused. Now, she's slipped and is bleeding badly.”
“What? Sophia?” Ethan shouted, his voice trembling.
“Yes, please, hurry, come with me. I fear she might lose her baby,” Isabella added with an emotional voice that would never make her look like a suspect.
Without waiting any further, Ethan threw his suitcase to the ground and rushed to Sophia, who was lying on the ground and bleeding helplessly.
Seeing Sophia, his spirit almost left his soul as he screamed, “Sophia, are you okay?” He supported her with his hand and scolded softly, “Haven't I told you so many times not to do any chores in this house when you're pregnant? Why are you so stubborn as not to heed my words?”
Overwhelmed with weakness, Sophia looked at him faintly. She wanted to speak but couldn't.
“Ethan,” Isabella rushed forward, calling, “We don't have much time, let's take her to the hospital before it's too late!” She smirked at Sophia, but Ethan didn't see her.
Sophia glared at her with disbelief. She had only seen this happen in most Indian movies. However, she never expected this was going to be her fate.
Cursing in her heart, Sophia muttered, “If anything happens to my baby, I'll make sure you pay for it!”
Ethan quickly nodded, responding in a worried and fast breath, “Yes, Mom. Right away to the hospital!” He pulled on his shoulder and dashed out.
As he left, Isabella laughed aloud, slumping onto the sofa, her laughter never-ending. Finally, it died down, and she retrieved her phone, putting a call through.
“Hello, Anna. The plan has been executed successfully. I pushed her down as planned, and I'm one hundred percent sure she's going to lose the baby.” She said with so much hate in her voice.
Anna shouted in joy from the other end, “Whoa, great news! I love you, Mom.”
“I love you more than that's why I did what I did. You're the only person permitted to be my daughter-in-law, and aside from you, no one else.”
She continued, “That pig called Sophia thinks she's wise. By the time she loses that thing in her, Ethan is going to leave her for good.”
“And I can't wait to be Ethan's wife. I'm the only one who deserves him.”
“Yes.” Isabella nodded and changed the topic, “I've got to join them at the hospital now so that no one will suspect me. Bye.” She abruptly ended the call with a widened smile.
