Chapter 8 Farming Fun

Ronan's POV

After my almost seemingly long beautiful drive, I slowly pull down the long dirt driveway of this farm. I hear from my phone that I have made it to my destination on the GPS.

The driveway goes on for a while until I come up to a large house with a barn and another smaller looking house.. maybe a guest house, or storage, or something along those lines.. I don't know.. I'm not a farmer I don't know what they need for this stuff around here.

Not trying to sound spoiled or anything but I never had to do this kind of stuff so I never had to be around it.

I pull up to the house slowly then parking. I get out taking a look around as I hear, "Can I help you?" from behind me. I quickly turn around to see an older woman maybe 50 at the most, smirking at me as she slowly makes her way over to me. I watch her smirk form into a big smile at me as I watch her gaze trail up and down my body.

"Ya, I think I have the wrong address but I was looking for a woman named Ember." I ask as politely as I can.

She tilts her head slightly in curiosity. "Love the accent where is it from?" She asks as I try to be polite once more and answer her quickly, "The same place I am, Ireland."

She humms in response now biting her bottom lip and I can definitely smell her arousal. "Ember does live here." she responds vaguely still staring at me.

"Oh I'm sorry are yer teaghlach?.. I mean her family?" I ask putting out my hand to shake hers out of respect as I walk closer to her.

She starts laughing shaking her head at my comment as if it was some sort of joke.. does she not know I'm serious? She lightly shakes my hand as her laugh starts to calm giving her a chance to breath.

After a good cackle at my expense for whatever reason, which I don't understand to be mockery or a joke of sorts.. I don't know, but then she responds "No God no.. she is an orphan.. she has our guest house to herself for free as long as she works on our farm for us everyday. It's a trade system really." She explains this as if it's just obvious.

I don't like her she reminds me of a sleeven.. there is something about her.. maybe just the fact she is mocking us about our mate but whatever it is I don't like it one bit.. but that's sad that our mate is an orphan, how could someone not want her.

Cormac says to me and I completely agree.

"I don't get the joke at all really, but do you know where she is at that I may see her?"I still try to be polite because this is someone else's home and you don't go in on someone else's property disrespecting, or you will quickly get kicked out.

"Oh it's just because I mean look at her and not even her parents wanted her and you're the first guy that's ever come around for her.. not one of mine at all.. But no honey, she is out right now, riding around here somewhere she should be back any minute... oh there she is." She says with her gaze locking on I'm assuming Ember pointing behind me.

"Well I think you would be lucky to have her as your daughter because she is amazing." I spat back at her shocking her completely as I look in the direction of where she is pointing.

I turn around to see Ember bouncing around on the back of the galloping horse dressed in a plaid button up shirt tied up into a knot exposing her stomach and chest, with a pair of blue skinny jeans that are ripped and down to those same cowboy boots from yesterday.

When I saw her wearing those boots yesterday I thought it was a girl being ironic.. you know those girls that really don't do anything but say they do.. like that. Man I couldn't be more wrong.

Her hair is down, looking like it's almost glowing like it's on fire, with the red of her hair and the sunlight right behind making her look angelic. She sees me then smirking over and I can't help but smile big at her in response. She stops the horse then flipping her leg over as she gets off and back to the ground. She struts over here and I walk to her meeting her halfway.

"What are you doing here Ro? Are you following me or did you just miss me that much?" her melodic voice rings in my ears making me chuckle.

"Why does it have to be one or the other? Why can't it be both?" I say playfully back to her, as she giggles shaking her head. I keep walking until I hug her tight catching her off guard but I don't care.

I reluctantly let her go as I reach into my pocket pulling out her wallet. She gets a curious look on her face as I clarify why I have her wallet. "When I woke up this morning I found it on the floor under my shirt.. so I wanted to return it."

"Oh Ember is this your man? He is hot." the woman interrupts popping up right next to me.

"yes" I say as Ember says "No" in unison. The woman looks confused between the two of us as I explain. "I am a man trying to have a relationship with her but she is fighting it right now.. but I'll win her over." I say with so much confidence in my voice. This comment makes Ember blush and shake her head.

"Come on Ember give him a chance. you deserve that and he is so hot how could you not. come on girl." the woman says in my defense which I am loving but by the look on Ember's face, I can tell my mate is getting irritated as she snaps at the woman. "You know why I can't Sharen!"

"But he could protect you from him, I mean look at his arms!" She says with a school girl squeal to her voice.

"I don't need protecting!" Ember snaps as she flips around walking away but I follow close behind because I don't know what they are talking about but I would love to find out more.. I have a feeling this has to do with her past. I keep in step with her, even following her to the horse as we hear yelling in the distance.. it sounds like cussing if I have ever heard it.

My gaze travels across, to the sounds of anger and frustration.. There is a man being drug around by a calf.. the man let's go of the rope and the calf takes off running across the property.

"F*#K!" Ember says quickly putting her foot into the strap and swinging her legs over the horse so she is back on top of the horse to ride it. She looks at me as I say, "Sorry I just wanted to spend some time with you and just wanted to see you really and of course return your wallet." I explain quickly why I'm there as she smiles and asks, "Well do you know how to ride a horse?" and I vigorously nod because we have had horses before we moved here.

"Ok well get on then." She says as if it's obvious but you don't have to ask me twice. I run over and quickly jump into the horse behind her. "Come on Ro we have to get that calf." She persists as I say, "I'm on."

Sheesh Ronan hurry it up you're slowing her down.. you hear that. YOU'RE slowing HER down.

Cormac says playfully mocking me since I'm the leader not the follower normally.

"Hang on." She warns as I tighten my grip around her, she whips the reigns and the horse takes off. We are going so fast that I don't even know how the horse can do this with both of us.

Make fun all you want Cormac I still get to be the one holding her right now.

I rub my progress in his face as he scoffs in jealousy.

"Do you know how to hog tie?" She asks bringing me out of my conversation with my wolf and I want to sound good so I completely agree. "Yeah of course. Do you know how to hog tie?" She smirks back at me shaking her head I think she sees right through me.

"Alright how about you show me then how to hog tie, I'm going to corner the calf. then rope her and you will hog tie her." She says to me as I swallow the lump in my throat while she asks, "Are you sure you can hog tie now?"

OK this is my chance to stand up to the challenge. "Uh.. ya course I can.. I got it.. grand plan Las." I say to her just trying to figure out how I'm going to do this.. It can't be too hard right? I have seen it on the TV and kids do this s**t. Ok I can do this.

"Ok.. if you say so." She says to me as I nod because I do say so. I think I can figure this out, how to tie the calf up.

We get closer to the calf trying to corner it and it's working, going just where she is pushing it and discovered this is fun to be apart of honestly. I feel like I'm on a hunt stalking my prey but it's different because I'm out in the open which is different from the way I do things. This experience is seeing things in a whole new light.

"Ok Ro it's your turn we have her cornered.. unless you can't do it.." She says trying to give me a way out but I don't back down when it comes to doing anything and I won't start now.

"Nope I got this baby. Watch and learn." I say in a cocky tone as she scoffs and waits. I jump off of the horse and slowly creep my way over to the calf that is watching me with caution. I try to get closer as I see a lasso fly over the top of me and around the calf's neck holding it in place from Ember as I try to get it tipped over to tie it's feet.

It's avoiding my every move until I'm slightly behind it. I think I scared him by the number one rule of 'don't walk behind horses' I heard that for horses of course.. but I found out pretty quickly that applies to cows as well. It kicks straight to my shoulder throwing me to the ground as I feel pain and groan.

F*#k Ronan you're an i***t!

Cormac groans with me in pain.

"Ronan!" She yells as she gets off of her horse in a haste. She quickly pulls the calf into her flipping her to her back and wrapping her legs up together into a hog tie faster than I can even comprehend.

She stands then bolts over to me on the ground. "Whoo that was sexy, you can hog tie me anyday sweetheart." I playfully reply as she shakes her head grinning at me.

"I knew you didn't know how to hog tie Ro.. you didn't even know how to wipe down a table so I don't know how I thought you would know how to do this.. You can't just sit there and lie to me.. you could get hurt out here pretty easily if you don't know what you're doing." She lectures me as she reaches for my hurt shoulder touching the area that got kicked as I scoff and reply. "I'll be fine Ember I swear." I insist as she scoffs even louder.

"No Ro! I have seen a guy get kicked in the neck killing him instantly, you can really get hurt out here, if not killed.. you need to be careful and honest with me." She lectures as I retort. "Like how you're not telling me about your past?"

She looks at me with a strained look.. she knows I'm right that she is not being honest but doesn't want to admit it. "That's different." She says softly as she keeps looking at my instant bruise. I take in her calming scent just loving the close proximity.

OK fine, keep being an i***t and get hurt more often so we can get this extra attention.

Cormac mocks me more as I reply back to her pretty instantly. "Is it different? I wouldn't know because you haven't told me anything." I retort with probably too much sass to her as she glares at me. "Don't be like that Ro.. You know I like you.. I just.." She tries to explain as I finish her comment for her. "You can't, I know." I say to her sadly.

She has a look of guilt on her face as she stands up and helps me up. "I'm sorry.. I don't want to hurt you anymore than I already have.. you can just go." She says sadly to me as she gets the calf ready to take it back.

"No I wasn't meaning that Ember.. I love being around you and seeing the real side of you I just want to know more." I say even more honestly to her.

"Why? So you can just leave me like everyone else in my life.. you already said in 6 days you're going back home that's obviously away from here, so I don't know why your trying so hard.. I'm sure you probably heard from loud mouth over there, that I'm an orphan.. no has wanted me since day one and anyone who has gotten close enough to me has left so I don't want to get hurt again or hurt anyone else thanks though." She says shaking her head.

"But I want you and I'm not like other people.. I was maybe thinking.. I might move away from my home to here.. that is if you don't want to come with me." I don't want to freak her out at all but I only have 6 days and that's it.. I had to get this conversation going at some point.

"We only just met, there is no way you would want to live with me.." She says to me getting on her horse. "If I tell you my secret this will explain all of your questions you have or at least most.. Come on you know there is something between us that you have never felt with anyone else.. and you can't deny that." I say to her as she looks at me not denying at all.

"You're right I can't deny that one bit." She softly replies. "See.. so how can you compare this to anyone else when this is nothing like those relationships.. we can do things differently because it's already different.. right?" She nods at me reluctantly.

"Fine I won't treat this relationship between us, like those other ones because you are right it's not the same, but that doesn't mean I'm going to tell you about my past I hope you know.. But I have to get back to work.. hop on and I'll take you back to your vehicle.. I have to keep working out here until 3 and then I take a shower and head to work at 4 so I'll see you then Ok?" She says to me as I vigorously nod my head.

I hop on the horse behind her with the calf and we ride back pretty quickly. "Good job trying to hog tie, you were close just not all the way there." She says to me as I smile and nod. "Thanks, I just wanted to impress you but I have never done anything like this." I reply to her as she laughs and retorts. "Well I don't know where you grew up rich boy but if your going to be around me.. You're going to have to learn how to get down and dirty."

"I'll get down and dirty with ya anytime." I say to her playfully as she laughs and my comment. We get closer to the house again as I jump off and so does she walking with me back to the vehicle. I turn looking at her, not wanting to leave but I know she has stuff to do.

"Thank you for trying to impress me it's sweet.. it honestly impressed me more that you didn't back down to a new challenge, it's was admirable. Even though you almost got kicked in the face." She retorts stepping closer to me.

"Was it impressive enough to earn me a kiss from ya?" I ask playfully wiggling my eye brows at her. She smiles then scoffs as she nods. I take that opening to pull her into my frame catching her off guard once more.

I lean in and watch her anticipate my lips by puckering hers.. so I quickly kiss her cheek catching her off guard once more as I say. "Gosh I just wanted a kiss on the cheek you're taking things way too fast, stop pressuring me Ember." I joke around sarcastically as she laughs, "Come on Ro all the other guys are doing it!" She playfully coherses me as I wiggle my eyes brows again retorting.

"Well if all the other guys are doing it then I'll just give into that peer pressure." making her laugh as I crash my lips to hers. I feel her hands wrap around the back of my head and playing with my hair, making the kiss deeper than before. I can feel her smiling into my lips which makes me happy that I can do that for her.

We break the kiss as she stares up at me with lustful eyes and I can definitely smell her arousal. "You better calm down or I'll take you right here right now." I say to her as she clears her throat in embaressment before replying. "I'm so close to telling you my secret just so I can find out why touching and kissing you is so good, with just you." She says breathlessly to me as I smirk at her.

"I'll tell you anytime you want to know.. I just don't know if you can handle it.. or will believe me.. because I swear I'm not crazy." I try to explain as she gets a curious look on her face.

"I'll hold you to that comment.. See you later Ronan." She says softly to me and I have to say I love the way she says my name, it just rolls off of her tongue so naturally.

I do love how she sounds saying your name and I wish I could hear her say mine.

Cormac says to me feeling a little left out.

You will get your chance I swear Cormac.

I try to reassure him so he won't feel bad I know it's hard being kept away from her to just watch her from afar partly being able to experience some of this with me.. but I'm trying to figure something out for him.

"We love hearing my name on your lips." I purr to her as she remarks pretty quickly, "We?" I stumble on my words just stuttering out, "Oh um I meant me, not we or I.. I meant I love hearing you say my name.." I say clearing my throat nervously.

"Uh huh.. ok I'll see you later crazy man, that for some reason likes me." She says playfully to me as I lean in kissing her cheek softly.

"See you later have a good rest of your afternoon." I say to her as she smiles and says, "See you soon." She turns and walks back to the horse and calf leaving me at my vehicle. Well that wasn't the morning or afternoon I was expecting at all, wonder what's next.
