“We’re almost thee now, I’ve got to go…”
His mother’s voice pulled him out of his thoughts promptly. Panic ran up his throat, and abruptly, he blurted “Wait, mom. Does the boy’s mother know who I am?”
“No. I didn’t mention it.”
“Good.” An inexplicable feeling of relief settled down inside his chest. “Let’s keep it that way.”
There was a moment of silence, before his mother murmured. “She’s bound to find out sooner or later, you know.”
“Mom.” Graeme said, making his voice steely.
He could practically see her rolling his eyes. “Fine. Come soon.” She hung up after saying an impatient ‘bye’ to him.
Left alone with his thoughts, Graeme sighed. He set the phone aside, leaned against his chair and closed his eyes. Counting to ten, he forced back the emotions gnawing at him.
