The hug lasted for about three seconds before Macy was pulling her son back to her side. She didn’t know the who Marianne truly was, and despite what Will seemed to think, Macy was not inclined to believe the words of a total stranger.
“Will, stay behind me.” Macy said and immediately, Will obeyed without any protest. To the woman, she said bluntly. “I am sorry, but you will have to understand my skepticism. I have no idea who you are. I don’t know who my son’s father is, much less his mother.”
“I have no reason to lie to you.” Marianne said calmly. “Frankly, you do not have much to your name. But I understand so, here. I took the liberty of bringing this along with me as proof.”
