In the slums of Marseille, you don’t get to be just a "Dreamer Girl." You have to be a warrior first.

Amélie sat at the cracked wooden table of the small café, her knuckles still red from the shift at the warehouse. Across from her, the chair was empty. He was supposed to be here. They had made a pact: one year to make enough money to leave this life behind. A promise to meet and merge their savings.

She looked at the envelope on the table. It was thick with her hard-earned Euros—money she had earned by working three jobs, sleeping four hours a night, and fighting off every person who tried to step on her. She had kept her side of the promise.

But he was nowhere to be seen.

The waiter walked by, smirking. "Waiting for a ghost, chérie?"

Amélie didn't flinch. she didn't cry. She looked the waiter in the eye with a cold, sharp stare that made him stop laughing.

"I'm not waiting for anyone," she said, her voice like steel. She grabbed the envelope and stood up, her back straight. "I just realized that a promise kept by only one side isn't a debt. It's a divorce."

She walked out into the cold French rain, her boots clicking loudly on the pavement. If she could survive the streets, she could survive a broken heart. She had the money. She had the grit. And most importantly, she had the power.

"Watch me," she whispered to the wind. "I’ll build my empire alone.

Chapter-1
Arohi didn’t have the luxury of "finding herself" in college. For her, every day was a tactical mission. 06:00 AM – The Family Front: The sun hadn't even touched the rooftops of tours when arohi was already in the kitchen. Her mother’s back was bothering her again, and her younger brother, Léo, was hunting for clean socks. "Arohi,, did you pay the electricity bill?" her mother whispered, leaning against the counter. "I handled it, Maman," arohi lied with a tired smile. She hadn’t paid it yet, but she would. She had to. She was the pillar holding up a house made of glass. 09:00 AM – The Academic Front: In the grand lecture hall of the University, Arohi sat in the front row. Her eyes were red, but her pen moved like a weapon. While other students whispered about weekend parties, Arohi was memorizing International Law. She wasn't just there to pass; she was there to be the best. A dreamer girl doesn't just wish for a better life, she thought, scribbling a complex note. She out-thinks everyone in the room. 06:00 PM – The Survival Front: As soon as classes ended, the "Dreamer" vanished, and the "Worker" took over. Arohi spent six hours on her feet at a loud, greasy brasserie. "Hey, Dreamer! Table four is complaining!" her manager yelled. Maya wiped the sweat from her forehead. Her legs screamed for her to sit down. Her mind was foggy with legal codes and grocery lists. But she didn't slow down. She moved faster. Every plate she carried was a step closer to the promise she made to herself. 11:30 PM – The One-Sided Promise: Finally home, Arohi sat at her tiny desk. She opened her phone. Still no message from him. He had promised to help her. He had promised they would study together and build a future. She looked at the empty chat screen and felt a spark of anger. "Fine," she whispered, opening her heavy textbook. "Stay silent. I don't need your help to win." She was a girl fighting three wars at once—Family, Study, and Work. And she was winning them all, one hour at a time. 1. The Study Fight: arohi vs. The Elites Setting: A Law Lecture Hall at a French University (Sorbonne or Lyon III). Professor Girard adjusted his glasses, looking at the class. "In 2026, the legitimacy of legal decisions depends on absolute focus. Some of you," he glanced at arohi's tired face and her faded backpack, "seem to treat Law like a hobby between shifts at a café." A rich student in the back, wearing a €400 designer scarf, snickered. "Maybe if she spent less time smelling like french fries and more time in the library, she’d understand the Civil Code." arohi felt the sting of humiliation, but she didn't look down. She stood up. The room went silent. "Monsieur le Professeur," arohi's voice was calm, cutting through the snickers. "The law isn't a museum piece for those with free time. It’s a shield for those who work. While some read about 'Force Majeure' in a heated bedroom, I lived it last night when the restaurant flooded and I had to protect the inventory alone. I don’t just know the theory of resilience; I am the practice of it. Now, shall we discuss the 'Rupture Conventionnelle' (Mutual Termination) laws, or should I explain how they actually affect real workers like me?" The professor stared at her, then slowly nodded. The rich student turned red and looked away. Maya sat down, her heart racing—she hadn't just won a debate; she had claimed her space. 2. The Work Fight: Handling the "Client de Merde" Setting: A busy Brasserie in Marseille during the Friday night rush. The customer at table six was shouting. He was a middle-aged businessman who thought his €20 steak bought him the right to be a bully. "This wine is too warm! And you," he pointed a finger at arohi,, "you’re too slow. Do they hire anyone with a brain here?" The kitchen was screaming for orders, and arohi’s feet felt like they were on fire. A "Dreamer Girl" might have apologized and cried in the walk-in freezer. But the Fighter in arohi took over. She didn't move away. She stepped closer, maintaining a professional but icy smile. "Monsieur," she said, her voice low enough that only he could hear, "I am currently balancing three tables, an angry chef, and a Law degree. If you want a fast server, I suggest you treat me with the respect a human being deserves. If you continue to raise your voice, I will have to ask you to leave, as per our establishment's policy on harassment." She didn't wait for him to respond. She swapped the wine for a colder bottle with a grace that was almost an insult. He didn't say another word for the rest of the night. 3. The Family Sacrifice: The Choice Setting: A Pharmacy in a quiet French suburb. arohi stood at the counter, her hand clutched around a 50-euro note. It was the only money she had left for the month. In her bag was a list of required textbooks for her final exams. The main book, Droit Civil 2026, cost exactly €45. Without it, she would likely fail the exam. "That will be €48.50 for your mother's heart medication," the pharmacist said, placing the white box on the counter. Arohi looked at the medicine. Then she looked at the bookstore across the street. If she bought the medicine, she couldn't buy the book. If she didn't pass, her dream of becoming a lawyer and saving her family was over. Her hand shook. She thought of her mother’s pale face and her brother’s hopeful eyes. She pushed the 50-euro note across the counter. "I'll take the medicine," Arohi whispered. As she walked home in the dark, she didn't feel like a victim. She felt like a pillar. “I’ll study from the library copies,” she told herself. “I’ll stay up all night. I’ll fight harder. But I will not let my family fall.” ---
