Everyone's expressions changed the moment Calvin pointed out Diane. Well, who could have thought that the heir of Walton's corporation would choose such a cheap and unlucky woman as his future wife.
Diane's eyes bulged in surprise and disbelief. Wasn't this man here to marry her sister Sara? Why did he suddenly point her out? Or maybe he wanted to give her more suffering.
"I.. I..you.. what do you mean." Diane finally managed to find a voice. She was not sure if this man wanted her for peace but whatever it was, she wasn't ready to suffer one more time.
"Yes, You heard me well. If I must marry someone from the Alvez family then it's you." Calvin remarked as he looked at the confused girl standing in front of him.
Meanwhile, Carolyn was fuming with anger. How could this blind man look at that ugly girl instead of her daughter. As much as she wanted to lock Diane in the basement, she couldn't find a way to do it now. She instead glanced at her poor daughter Sara who was on the verge of crying but she didn't walk toward her. Instead, Carolyn spoke.
" Future son in law, I don't understand why you can't marry Sara the one you came for." Carolyn said trying hard to hide her irritation.
"What's your name?" Calvin didn't answer Carolyn but rather directed his querry to the girl in front of him. He was already standing in front of her trying to read her emotions through her eyes but he could only see confusion all over her face.
"Uh, Diane...am Diane."
"Diane, I want to marry Diane." Calvin turned to the elders as if inquiring for their opinions but that didn't actually matter to him at all. He had decided to go with her and not anybody else.
It was Diane's turn to fall in surprise. This man right in front of her looked calm that she couldn't fanthom his intentions.
The tension in the living room worsened as the elders looked at each other without saying a word. Mr. Walton didn't know how to handle the shame that his son had poured on him.
On the other side, Mr. Alvez kept quiet and didn't say a word. After all, it benefited him either way. He didn't know what caused the sudden change of mind from his son in law but he kept his cool.
Time went by but Sara didn't say anything. She was caught off guard that every word she wanted to say kept locked in her throat. Her tears wanted to fall but she didn't want to show her soft side to everyone.
Till when it was evening, Mr. Walton and his family were about to leave the Alvez mansion after both families decided that the marriage for their children was to be held the next day.
The elders had chose to hold the marriage ceremony a week later but Calvin insisted that he wanted to get married sooner claiming that the sooner the better.
Diane had not interjected since it wasn't her way. She had no choice but to do as her father approved. Being left with no room to think about it, she had to get married the next day which was Sunday.
****Sunday***
The weather in city B was unbelievably good. The air was cool and the sun wasn't too bright. On the side of the Walton's, preparations for the wedding were going on smoothly as many designers were hired.
A few invited guests from the business world had started to arrive at the mansion as they couldn't miss a chance to meet new partners.
Calvin was on his way to the Alvez family mansion since he insisted that he could pick Diane himself. He didn't why but he wanted to do everything about her on his own.
Diane was already dressed up in a pure white wedding dress with a thin layer of makeup on her face. Makeup artists had went to her room in the morning informing her that they were sent by Calvin Walton to attend her.
Looking at her self in the mirror, she admitted that she looked good but she didn't know how she felt deep inside her. It couldn't be defined as happiness of getting marriage as she didn't expect that to happen in her life time or if it was because she was going to leave the prison in her house.
Thinking about it, she didn't know the man she was going to marry. She didn't know the treatment she could receive after settling in another house.
"Ma'am, It's time to go. Mr. Calvin is waiting for you downstairs." Diane's heart skipped for a second as the maid informed her. This was new to her and besides, she felt bad for taking what belonged to her sister.
"Okay." She started walking slowly downstairs with a thumping heart from nervousness.
"You look beautiful Diane." Calvin said to Diane in a low and calm voice she ever heard as soon as she reached downstairs.
Diane didn't know how to react at his words so she just forced a smile as he led her towards his car.
"Don't worry about anything. I will definitely treat you better and I won't force you to do anything." Calvin encouraged as he sensed her nervousness. He was driving at a limited speed till they pulled up infront of the Walton's mansion.
Diane breathed deeply to calm herself down through the entire wedding procedures. Her stepmom was present but her sister Sara wasn't there. She wondered what she felt but didn't push it further to asking anyone.
They said their false vows and soon the wedding came to closure. It was time for the newly Weds to go to their room and that was the awkwardest part of it all.
"I...I will take a bath." Diane shyly said looking at Calvin who was sitting on the bed with his shorts on.
"Mm." he simply replied and watched her until her silhouette was behind the bathroom door.
'Oh gosh my heart is swimming.' Calvin couldn't help but think.
