CHAPTER 1 (Kidnapped by the Alphas of NYC)
JADE POV
“There's darkness coming. A darkness that will kill every werewolf and take everything so run! Find me!”
A strange voice echoed in my ears and played in my mind like it was a part of me. I lifted my lashes, my eyes heavy with dust. My entire body ached which was the after-effect of the bomb explosion. I shifted a bit to sit upright but my chained hands hindered my movement. The first person my eyes captured was a slim, tall man with dreadlocks and a trimmed beard.
“Who would have imagined that this tiny-looking lady would be the one with such powers,” the man said and I stared intently at him. The lady standing next to him got my attention with a reverberating voice like that of a man.
“She's awake, Mav,” she moved towards me then grabbed my hair and my scalp hurt more than ever.
“That’s enough, Margot. Hurting her isn't part of my plans,” a man's voice said, walking past my side to face me. He swung his muscle-packed arms as a signal for the lady and the man to stand down. Then I noticed that there weren't just three but six in the place which appeared to be a garage.
The man bent low and held my cheeks so that I could face him. I felt goose pimples all over my thighs and held in the urge to empty my bowels right there. He was one of those I'd hurriedly refer to as a ‘bad boy’ if I saw him at a coffee shop.
“Jade Jones, how interesting,” he said then stood up. “Get her in the car. We're heading to my Villa,” he ordered and two men pulled me up. I wonder if I was dreaming or had died completely. My heart was pulsating rapidly and beads of sweat trailed my face. I managed to whisper, “Who are you people?” but none of them replied. They probably could not hear me because of the screeching of the car that just started.
“The police are requesting your presence at the station, Mav,” another man appeared from behind a jeep.
“Why?” Mav asked while the men who held me stopped in their tracks.
“You were caught on camera at the site of the bomb explosion,” the man replied, moving towards him and showing him a visual on the iPad he held.
Bomb explosion?! That was it! The last thing that happened before I found myself weak and exhausted in this garage with these people. After struggling with low self-esteem and losing a sense of direction in all twenty-two years of my life, I finally achieved my dream. I got my book published and had a book launch but the beautiful bookstore I struggled to secure for the event exploded when I was about to have my speech. I am still alive and these men were my suspects in the bomb explosion.
I tilted my head forward to view each of their faces while the men who held me kept subduing me with their heavily built arms.
“What the f*** is wrong with you, Theo and Reese?! You were supposed to handle it!” Mav yelled, then shrugged. I watched from one person to another, hoping I'd remember their faces when I got the chance to escape to the police.
“Get the goddess to my villa. I'll meet you there,” he said and stepped into the back of the car. Then he turned back to the men who held me and Margot.
“None of you must hurt her till I arrive at the villa. Get her there safely. Theo and Margot, you’re in charge” he declared then rolled his eyes in my direction. Our eyes met and he held mine with his for a few seconds before shutting the door and rode off. I was amused by the way he looked at me. Then he called me a goddess. Was that supposed to be a compliment? I guess I might have had an obsessed admirer but would he burn down my book launch to have me to himself? I couldn't stop my thoughts from going wild since my mind was the only thing in my body that had not gotten weak.
“Get her in the back seat," Theo said and they pulled me towards the car but before I could step in, another car drove in with a crashing speed, forcing us to take cover. A few people stepped out of the car and began to fire at us while those who held me also fired back. I held my clasped hands close to my chest and shut my eyes tightly. I had never been in such a life-threatening situation before. Tears rolled down my cheeks and I began wishing I was back home with my parents.
I looked to my side and was shocked to see one of the men shift slowly into a werewolf with his claws and fangs shooting out. Hell, they were werewolves. I'd never met a werewolf in New York City even though I was also one. He latched out from behind the car then I heard screams and scratches.
“s**t!” I muttered then crawled towards the end of the car to move behind another but another person appeared in front of me. He wasn't part of the team that had captured me and he was fast which meant he was a werewolf as well. They were all werewolves but what do they all have to do with me, a wolfless werewolf girl?
I gasped and froze on the spot. My hair veiled my face and I drew back on my butt but he carried me off my feet and sped to their car which had already started. Theo sped towards us but someone dropped a tear gas. My eyes turned red and my nose filled up with mucus. I was dumped in the car and one of the men held a cloth over my face. I realized that I had been kidn*pped again from my previous abductors with no knowledge of where I was heading or how I became a person of such importance.
“Let me go” I managed to speak but the man beside me shoved me towards the other person sitting at my left side and I threw up on her.
“What the f***?” she yelled and smacked my face so hard, I lost consciousness.
“You have to run. Find me, Jade, before your world ends up in flames. Run and find me!” the strange still voice echoed in my ears once more. I lifted my lashes to find myself in a dimly lit room. My stomach hurt pretty bad and my hands and legs were tied to a separate block. I winced, cursing myself for being wolfless.
“You can now proceed, Alpha Jaxon,” I heard a lady's voice say. The room lit up almost immediately while a man in black stood before me. He looked older although his body was built like that of a wrestler. My eyes grew wide as I watched him swing a knife towards me.
“Can we please talk about this, sir? There's been a mistake,” I forced myself to speak, gulping in saliva while my armpit bled an enormous amount of sweat. It wasn't even a time to think that it was a dream. It was the reality.
The man remained quiet and stopped beside me. Then he raised the knife and plunged it into my skin, cutting my wrist.
