The beginning of destruction
As I walked down the big hallways of this magnificent castle, I realized how unoriginal this is. The story as old as time really. I was wearing a big ballgown, with a crown on my head, walking down the hallway whose walls seemed like they were made out of pure gold. Classical story that has been told so many times, but I had never ever imagined it would be mine. But here I was. A girl from a poor family, with the weakest of all groups of powers, now crowned queen of the strongest realm, with the strongest powers. How did I get here? Well at the moment it all seems blurry, but I can remember the very beginning of it all.  I was in my room when my brother barged in - Verena! - he screamed to get my attention as if I wasn’t already looking at him - Is there something wrong?- I asked him politely. I always had better manners then the rest of my family. I swear sometimes it felt like I was adopted, or that they may have found me in a ditch somewhere, or in a building that was on fire and just decided to take me in. But they loved me more then my brother, witch he resented me for, so my theory was lacking a lot of stuff, so I just decided to ignore it-  Cyrus is there something wrong?- I asked him again as he was still trying to ketch his breath-  I wouldn’t know what to tell you.. Mom and dad are downstairs talking about your 19th birthday, and you know pretty well what that means-  He was talking about the fact that on the 19th birthday of each kid in our realm we have to show our powers to the entire family and all of the people who know us. We have the ability, and the right to live a somewhat normal life before our 19th birthday. Without using, or showing our powers to anyone. There are situations where kids end up not having powers at all, or have weaker ones then their family. If they don’t have powers they are sent to Earth, because time goes by faster for them and they will eventually die. Everyone who has powers is immortal, so we can’t die and the thought of that kills those who don’t have them much faster, so their only chance of an actual life is if they are sent to Earth. Now, if you have weaker powers then your family you are sent away to the realm that has those powers. Because you could not survive among those who are stronger than you.  Because we have the weakest power, the power of the wind, there are only two scenarios for us. Stay here, or go to Earth. And nobody wants to leave.  Especially because once you leave you don’t remember your previous life. A curse is put on you to not remember anything so that you can’t tell mortals anything. With everyone who leaves there is a different story that they tell the mortals. It’s usually something in the lines of- I lived my whole life in one place, and six months ago I decided I have had enough so I started to travel the world, trying to find myself in it. And they stay in that city for the rest of their lives. That is actually a part of the curse. You stay where you were sent so that the magical realms can’t loose track of you. And if your family wishes to see you they are granted the wish but only one time, and for a limited time. So that is another reason why the curse of not being able to leave the city you were sent to is there. You don’t remember anything from this life so you have nothing to feel sorry for, but your family will start missing you at some point, and in some ways its much harder for them. Another thing worth mentioning is that you can’t be born with powers stronger than your family’s. It’s just how it’s always been. It was really impossible for that to happen. At least that is what everyone always thought. And that is what made my position so much harder. I hadn’t told anyone about it, but I was running out of time, and I needed to do something.  -Verena, what’s on your mind?-  Cyrus asked me because I couldn’t hide the look made out of fear that appeared on my face when I started thinking about all of this. I was scared, but how could I ever tell him? How could I ever tell anyone? I was a living, breathing proof that what everyone believed in for all of eternity was false- I was the one who is going to make things unravel, come to the surface. It was scary. How could it be true anyway? This is what got me even more into thinking that I might be adopted. But there was so much proof that I was really my parents daughter. -Verena?- My brother said but this time with an even more concerned voice - I don’t want to lose you… You… You do have powers don’t you?- I didn’t even know how to answer that. We never really talked about this. But my birthday was approaching, and I just didn’t know what to do with the fact that I did have stronger powers then the rest of my family. Will I be sent to Earth? Or will something worse happen? What if they kill me so they can cover up all this, and make it so it never even happened. I finally gathered some strength and answer him - Cyrus, I have to show you something. But not in the house. Meet me in the green fields in half an hour. I need to get some stuff done, and I’ll meet you there.  -Verena, you are scaring me. If you do have powers why can’t you show them here? Why do we have to go? - Cyrus! Please… Just listen to me please for once in your life. I know I am your baby sister, and you have every right to be mad at me, especially once you see what I have to show you, but I need you to trust me. Okay?- this time I was the one screaming at him, but it worked and he finally understood.  – Okay, and don’t be late!- he said as he was heading out of my room. I didn’t really have anything to do, I just needed to figure out how I was going to tell him that I have the power of the Phoenix. I am immortal, and they could still kill me because I don’t know how to use my powers. I have no one who can teach me, and no one who I could have told the truth. But it was too late now. My birthday was in a couple of days and I couldn’t escape it.
