Chapter Thirteen

[Matthias] I opened my eyes and saw Earl sleeping beside me. I hid a small smile and caressed the side of his head. He twitched for a bit before falling asleep again. I lie straight on the bed and stared at the ceiling. Now, I better think of a plan to make those idiots suffer my wrath. Messing with Earl was one thing they shouldn’t have done. f**k, I can’t believe I even controlled my rage after Earl told me everything last night. “Mhmm.” I heard Earl moved around. His eyes opened and stared at me before pulling a tender smile. s**t, I missed that. It’s been weeks since I last saw him and God, how much I wanted to see that smiling face. “Good morning.” He greeted. I nodded at him and got up from bed to stretch my limbs. Earl stood up but quickly hid away from my sight. I raised my brows at him and he was just blushing and clutching the white sheets. “What’s your problem?” I asked, a bit annoyed at his actions. “I-I’m naked!” He blurted out face still flushing from what seems embarrassment. I shrugged my shoulders. “So am I.” Earl froze for a second, eyes bulging out. “Oh, I remember now.” He covered his face with his hands and shook his head. “I can’t believe we did that!” I looked up the ceiling again and finally managed to realize what he had been saying. Yeah, so what if we had a little fun last night. It’s not like I raped him or something. He was willing in whatever I did to him and honestly, I enjoyed all of that. I smirked at him while putting my chin below the palm of my hand to stare at him. “How’s the experience?” He flushed furiously and threw me the pillow near him. I ducked under and grinned at him. “Pervert!” I stopped the engine and looked at Earl sitting on the passenger’s seat. I looked over him and to his house. By the looks of it, seems like no one was home. Probably Edward was with Harry again. “I’ll see you later, okay?” I said. Earl nodded and grabbed his bag on his foot. “Yeah, thanks for everything.” “Whatever.” He rolled his eyes at me and opened the car door. He stopped abruptly and turned around to face me. He was about to open his mouth but hesitated and instead smiled at me. “Bye, Matthias.” He slammed the door close, leaving me wondering what that was all about. I drove back to my house to report back to Damascus. I opened the main doors and maids greeted me to take my things. I threw them my bag and went straight to Damascus’ office. Once I arrived, I opened the door and saw him sitting in his table, browsing random folders with a phone tucked between his ears and shoulders. When he saw me, he straightened up and put the papers he was holding down. I closed the door and neared him. “Yo, missed me?” I said with a smirk. He stared at me and bid goodbye to whoever he was talking. “Welcome back, Matthias. Are you ready to report?” He asked in his usual polite voice. I slumped down on one of the chairs in front of him and put my feet up on the table. “Obviously. I wiped out the Simmon’s family just like what you want.” I said smugly. His face turned serious before sighing. “Massacred. The correct term for what you did, Matthias. And you never learn, do you?” Damascus said. I shrugged my shoulders before crossing my arms. “Just doing my job as an assassin.” He pushed a brown envelope towards me. I stared at it and grumbled. “Another one?” “No. This one is different.” I raised my brows at him. “Bullshit.” Damascus sighed and slapped my legs. I hissed before pulling down my legs back on the floor. I glared at him and he just rolled his eyes. I opened the envelope and saw a bio data inside with a picture attached at the top right of the paper. I looked at it and cursed. “s**t. By easy, you mean killing a teenager?” I threw the envelope on the table. “Sorry, but I don’t do paid jobs for some shitty brats like that.” “It’s not just some shitty brat, Matthias. And no, you’re not going to kill him. That kid, Ralph Gordon is the only son of the Gordon family.” I stared at him. “So?” Damascus glared at me. “The Gordon family leader paid us to protect that kid for the time being. They are currently having a family feud with the Samson family and now is not a good time for them. Ralph Gordon is the only heir that will succeed the Gordon’s and without him, their family will crumble down.” I continued to stare at him like he actually lost his mind. “I’m an assassin, remember? I don’t guard people or consider their safety. I take lives. I end it.” Damascus stayed silent. I flicked my tongue. “Why not just hire some men from our family to guard the brat?” “The Gordon’s doesn’t want their heir to attract attention from the public. Besides, you’re attending the same school. I’m sure it’ll be easy guarding someone like him, right?” He asked sarcastically. Perfect. Now I don’t have a reason to escape this s**t. “As I said, I don’t take jobs like this.” Damascus crossed his fingers. “60% of the money given to us will be given to you.” I smirked. “Make it 80.” “60.” “80.” “60.” “75.” “60.” “f**k, you’re so cheap old man!” I hauled the envelope towards me and glared at him. Damascus was just smiling smugly at me and I rolled my eyes at him. “Remember Matthias. Don’t attract any attention while guarding Ralph. I heard that some of the Samson family members are lurking around your school to assassinate him.” I looked at Damascus while walking backwards the door. “Hey, who do you think I am?” I pointed my index finger towards Damascus and shot him an imaginary bullet. “Bang.” After finishing the last batch of cookies, I put the plate back on the night table. Papers were scattered over my bed as I reviewed Gordon’s bio data. Let’s see. He’s the same year as me and goes at the same school. He was known for being athletic and already won a lot of awards from different sports contests. He was held back for one year in school so that means he’s an i***t. f**k, I hate idiots. When he was 12 years old, he changed his surname to avoid the feud between his family and the Samson’s. If I can remember correctly, the Samson and the Gordon were tough rivals, not just in the Mafia, but as well as other aspects like business and popularity. I haven’t really paid any attention to them because they were just small families but I never thought that the Gordon will pay just to protect their heir. Oh well, if he’s the only next in line, they’ll do everything to protect him. No leader means, no group to rule. And with no leader to rule, the rival family will take over, take all their possession and strip them off of their dignity. Mafia. Tough situations every day. I lied down on the bed and stared at the ceiling. I can’t believe I’m doing this. It’s not the first time I’m guarding someone. But Damascus stopped giving me jobs like this. Clients said that they won’t risk their lives being protected by a kid like me. Well, whatever, all of them got killed anyway so who cares. I turned to the side and saw my phone. I grabbed it and pushed the speed dial. A few rings and Earl finally answered. “Hey.” “Mhm.” “What’s wrong? Do you need something?’ “No.” I just wanted to hear your voice for a moment. “What’re you doing?” I shifted to the right to turn off the lampshade. Now, the only source of light was the windows. “Nothing much. Just doing my assignments and reports.” I raised my brows when I heard a pen dropped on the floor. “Don’t tell me you’ve been accepting assignments from other shits.” I asked in a taunting way. “No! I haven’t! Well, yeah, kind of, but it’s not like before.” I rubbed the temples of my forehead. “Seriously, stop doing it. They won’t ever learn their place if you keep on letting them have their way.” I can hear Earl smiling. “Yeah, I’ll take that in mind. You know what, come help me do their assignments next time.” I put my arm behind my head. “As if that’ll happen.” “You and your violent mouth.” I smirked. “Yeah. You love my mouth.” He choked and I silently laughed. “P-pervert!” “What? Geez, I’m just teasing you, Earl.” I called his name in a breathy voice and I can imagine him blushing like a girl. “You called just to tease me! I’m hanging up!” “Whatever, I’ll see you tomorrow.” He was silent for a moment before answering. “Yeah, see you tomorrow, Matthias. Bye.” I ended the call and tossed the phone away from me. I smiled to myself. Just hearing his voice makes me feel relax and contented. I parked my car in my usual spot and climbed out. I slammed the door locked and went straight towards the main entrance of the school. The guard looked at me with he’s usual poker face. He inspected my bag before I walked inside. I arrived in my classroom and I immediately saw Earl in his usual sit in the back, reading a book. I sighed mentally when I saw him wearing white plain long-sleeves with black baggy pants. I stepped inside and went to my desk as I hang my coat in the chair. “G’morning Matthias.” Some of the girls beside me greeted. I looked at them and they all giggled in delight. Geez, typical girls. I glanced behind, stealing a look at Earl who was still immersed in whatever he was reading. Seriously, he looks so isolated back there. Why can’t he join the class and participate in whatever s**t they were doing. It’s not like he’s the only nerd here in school. Earl looked up and caught me looking at him. I smirked at him and licked my upper lip seductively to tease him. He furrowed his brows, blushed and hid behind his book again. So easy to tease. I can’t help but to get amused in every of his reactions. I turned my head in front again and saw the teacher walking inside. The chattering inside the room didn’t hover but the teacher started his lectures anyway. s**t, I hate listening to them. I only go to school because of Earl. I know I have stalker issues and that’s not good but who cares. I want to be with him always. I won’t waste any of my time with bunch of trashes like this people. I tucked the earphones of my iPod in my ears. Voices blocked and nothing but heavy metal music filled my ears. I was about to doze off when a boy, around Harry’s height entered the room. He was wearing a basketball varsity jacket and was casually walking inside the room. The teacher looked at him and sighed. They talked for a moment. I never saw that guy here in this class. Oh well, what would I expect. It’s not like I paid any attention in any of the hoes here. I barely remember anyone’s face here. I shifted in my seat still staring at him. He looked at me for a moment before rolling his eyes and walking towards his desk. So that’s Ralph. That’s the b***h I’m gonna protect. Fuck me. I closed the door of my locker and looked at Early who was still putting his books away. I leaned towards the cold metal and watched him. “Hurry up, I’m starving.” I demanded. He sped up his pace and quickly closed the door. “Sorry. Let’s go.” I was about to walk beside him when a hand stopped me by grabbing my shoulder. I stopped and turned around to glare at whoever it was. Harry grinned at me and held up his phone in my face. I read the message and growled. f**k, I forgot about that Ralph guy. “Uncle told me to remind you about your next job.” He whispered with an amused smile. I slapped his forehead, took his phone and threw it out of the window. Harry and Earl gasped in disbelief. Everyone around us gasped as well as they watched Harry’s phone got thrown out of the window. “You bastard! That’s my phone!!” He quickly followed it outside. I sighed and looked at Earl who was still looking at Harry’s direction. “Hey, sorry but I can’t eat lunch with you. I’ll call you later.” I turned my back against him and headed towards the classroom. I arrived back in the room, peaking through the door silently and seeing Ralph still sitting on his desk, answering the exam the teacher gave a while ago. He was the only one left. How long will this guy answer it? It’s so f*****g easy even a 5 year old can answer it. I kicked the door open gaining his attention. Ralph was looking up to me and as soon as he saw me, he rolled his eyes again and continued answering his exam. I sat on the table next to him and crossed my legs. A few moments of silence before he decided to talk. “What do you want?” Well, I’m actually here to protect your lame ass. “Nothing. Just hanging around.” He glared at me. “Hanging around here in the classroom? Are you mocking me?” I smirked. “Why? You shy with me?” “f**k you.” He cursed and my smirked got bigger. These were the type of people I always want to piss off. It’s so entertaining I can’t help myself. I looked down on his exam and resisted the urge to laugh. Every answer written down was wrong. “What the hell are you even answering?” He growled at me but I ignored it. I pointed all of his mistakes on his paper. “Everything is wrong. From here to here. You’re such an idiot.” “Shut up! Just leave me alone!” He attempted to slap my hand away but I quickly evaded it. I shrugged my shoulders. “I’m just helping you.” “Well, I don’t need your help! Just go away!” He resumed answering his exams. I waited for a moment before sighing. f**k, I’m wasting my time here instead of being with Earl. I stood up and left the room, not even bothering to look at him again. I crumpled the burger wrapper and threw it on the tray. Earl was still eating while reading another new book. I sighed and looked outside the window. People were busy doing their own shitty business. It’s tiring to watch them do their daily routine. I moved my eyes to the right and saw Ralph walking alone down the alley. What the hell was he doing there? I immediately stood up that made Earl gasp. “W-what’s the matter?” He asked a bit startled at my sudden movement. I grabbed my bag and threw it on him. “Wait here.” I quickly trotted outside the restaurant and straight towards the alley where Ralph went. That little bastard. What the hell does he think he’s doing? At a time like this, he should be inside his mansion to avoid the feud between his family and the Samson’s. A gate stopped me from walking further into the alley. I grumbled in annoyance and leaped high to jump across the metal bars. I dropped down on the floor silently and proceeded to where Ralph went. When I heard distant voices, I pressed against the wall to avoid being seen. “Here’s the payment for this month.” Ralph said to whoever he was talking. “What? You still want us to do it? We already started the fight between the Black and the Red gangs. What else do you want us to do?” A foreign voice said. Did he just say the Black and the Red? “Shut up! Just do what you’re supposed to do!” Ralph hissed and I heard groaning of several people. “Fine. You do know what we’re doing is dangerous.” “f**k yeah. You’re making us deal with the two most dangerous gangs here in New York.” “They even said that they got connections with the mafia.” “If they knew what we’re doing, they’re going to chop our heads off!” Ralph snorted. “No they won’t. Those were just rumours and besides my old bastard hired the mafia to protect me. Those puny gangs won’t matter as long as I have them working for me.” I crossed my arms and smirked. So this was what really happening. He’s the one behind the fight between Edward and my gang. But why was he doing this? Whatever the reason was, it seems like he doesn’t know that the mafia he’s so proud of belongs to me. He really was an i***t. No wonder he was held back for two years. I stopped the engine and looked at Earl who was unbuckling his seatbelt. I quickly step out of the car and slammed it close before walking to the door. “Remind me why you want to talk to Edward again?” He asked following behind me. He walked in front of me and took out his keys to open the door. Once we’re inside, I faced him to answer his question. “I just need to tell him something. It’s none of your business.” I said a little cold at him. Earl flinched and lowered his head. f**k, I hate it when he looks like that. I rubbed the back of my head. “I don’t want you to get involved in this.” I whispered when he finally looked up. I avoided looking at his eyes. “Why?” “Because it’s a really dangerous matter that people like you won’t understand.” I said a little bit gentle now. He pauses for a second but nodded his head. “Okay. I hope everything will be fine.” He finally said and I smiled. I leaned down to capture his lips into a kiss. He instinctively snaked his arms around my head and I wrapped my arms around his waist. I pulled him closer to deepen the kiss. “Wow, that’s hot.” I groaned mentally when I heard Harry’s voice behind us. Earl pushed me away covering his mouth as he eyed Harry with a flushed face. “H-harry!” He squeaked. “What’re you doing here?” Harry crossed his arms and smirked at me. “Well, aside from watching you make out, I’m here to visit Edward.” “As if you don’t do it.” I pushed him to the side. “Where is he?” Harry pointed to the second floor. I looked at Earl who was still blushing. “Stall him.” I whispered to Harry who I knew heard it even though we’re inches away from each other. He’s quizzical at first but just shrugged his shoulders and turned to Earl. “Hey Earl! Where do you keep your snacks?” He suddenly asked while pushing Earl towards the kitchen. “Uh, well, I always put it in the…” I never heard Earl’s answer as I climbed up the stairs. I walked towards Edward’s room and even though I hate being inside it, I don’t have any choice. He needs to know what’s happening. I opened the door and saw him sitting on the floor while holding the controller of the PS4. “What do you need?” He asked never looking away from the screen. I closed the door and stayed to where I was standing. “Ralph Gordon’s the one behind it all.” Edward stopped and looked at me. “Who?” He asked and I shrugged my shoulders. “You know who. The one with the blonde hair jock.” I said. Edward shook his head and ran his fingers through his hair. “f**k. I know he’s involved with the mafia, but I never knew he’ll use it against us.” He eyed me seriously. “So, what do you want to do now?” “I can’t do anything to him because he’s acquainted with the family.” I said and I sighed when I saw Edward looking at me with confused eyes. “He paid us to protect him against the Samson.” “Right. The fight between the Gordon and the Samson. I heard rumours of each family members getting killed by one another.” “Nice.” I shortly commented. “Well, I just dropped by to tell you.” Edward rolled his eyes. “You just came to tell me I’m the one who should do something about it.” I smirked. “Yes, that one too.” I opened the door to step out. “f**k. You’re one shrewd guy. How can my brother date someone like you?” “Well your brother has a nice ass.” I finally closed the door when I saw Edward pulling out his gun. “Little s**t!!” “So you’re the one who’s going to protect Ralph.” I kept my gaze away from Ralph’s dad. “I didn’t expect you to be so…young.” “Well, he may not look like it, but he’s one of our best.” Damascus said and I rolled my eyes at him. You mean I’m the best. There’s no doubt in that. “Nevertheless, I’m entrusting the safety of my son to you, Matthias Blaise.” The old man took a huge black brief case from his assistant and gave it to Damascus. “Here’s the half of the payment. You’ll get the rest once everything is finish.” One of Damascus’ men took the case. “It was nice doing business with the Blaise family.” He said before leaving the room. I turned to look at Damascus who was sipping his tequila. “I can’t believe I’m doing this job.” I mumbled while I crossed my arms in irritation. “We don’t have any other choice.” He put the glass down and looked at me. “This is a serious job. The Gordon family is a big asset to ours. If we lose them, we lose a quarter of our territory.” “Does the old man even know this?” I asked him with a raised brow. Damascus waited for a while before answering my question. “Marcus doesn’t need to know this. He’s busy managing the Italian mafia.” I put my chin under my palm and pouted. How can my old man even deal with Italian and American mafia? That’s just…tiring. “I hope you’re doing fine with your job, Matthias.” Damascus changed the subject that made me even grieve. “Yeah yeah, I’m doing great.” I don’t even want to mention that Ralph was involved between the feud in my gang and Edward’s. Damascus pulled an impossible smile. “Good. Now, go to your room and rest. It’s a big day for you tomorrow.” “Stop acting like my mother, it’s gross.” “You’re my bodyguard?” Ralph asked again for the nth time. “Dude, how many times do I have to tell you? Seriously, if you ask me that again, I’ll pull of your tongue and it feed it to the dogs.” I taunted and smirked when he gulped nervously. “I knew you’re shady. But I never expected you work for the mafia.” He mumbled mostly to himself. He turned around to face the window. I crossed my legs and pull out my phone to see if I have messages. Three from Harry, I don’t even have to read that, two from my men, two from Damascus and none from Earl. I cursed and threw my phone on the table. Ralph looked at me again and narrowed his eyes as if he’s observing me. “Matthias Blaise. Working for the mafia. That’s just…that’s just…” Oh God, please kill me. “Yeah, I’m working for the mafia and I have to deal with your lame ass because your family cannot afford to deal with the Samson’s without getting help from us.” I said with a teasing grin that made him crack up. “We don’t need your help! I mean, I don’t need your help! It’s my father who’s weak! Not me!” He said while pointing fingers at me. “Good and I don’t care. So now, will you just shut up and let me do my work. If it weren’t for you money I wouldn’t even consider doing this.” I said sarcastically and he hissed at me. “You definitely belong to the mafia. Definitely.” He said and I shook my head and asked God again why do I even have to talk to an i***t like him. When the door opened slowly, I immediately put my guard up in case anything happened. I relaxed when I saw Earl standing from the door. “What’re you doing here?” I asked him while watching him walk to the bookshelf. “I forgot my Geometry book.” He answered timidly while avoiding looking at Ralph. I stared at his back before lowering my gaze until it stopped on his ass. I turned my head to the side and saw something I never anticipated. Ralph was totally checking Earl out. Earl closed the door of the classroom and looked at me. “Are you going home already?” I was still glaring at Ralph who was still looking at my Earl. MY EARL. “No, I’ll drop by somewhere to eat.” I said still glaring at Ralph. “With you.” I finished my sentence hard as I snapped my head towards Earl. Earl rubbed the back of his head nervously. “O-okay. I don’t mind but -.” He looked at Ralph. “Is he coming with us?” Ralph shook his head and laughed sheepishly. “Uh, I don’t mind. Sure.” “You’re not even invited.” I clenched my teeth at him but he just ignored me. Earl smiled at him. Don’t you dare even show your smile to anyone other than me. “Great. We can stop by at the pasta house where Matthias and I always eat out.” They both walked together leaving me behind. I caught up to them and pulled Earl closer to me. “You seem very close to Matthias.” Ralph said and Earl just giggled. Of course we are. We’re dating you doofus. Wasn’t it obvious? Okay fine it’s not but whatever. “Well, you could sort of say that.” He said while smiling a little. Ralph smiled back. He stopped and held out his hand. “Oh by the way, I’m Ralph Gordon. I don’t believe I actually introduced myself to you.” Earl nodded. “Yeah we’ve been classmates for years. I’m Earl Harrison. Nice to meet you, Ralph.” I resisted the urge to slap myself. Now I’ve got two people to protect. Fuck.
