Chapter 6: No Way Out
The silence didn't last.
A loud crash echoed through the abandoned warehouse, followed by hurried footsteps.
"They've found us," Umar said, scanning every exit.
Tife's heart pounded against her chest. She had only just begun to uncover the truth, and now danger was closing in again.
"Who are they?" she whispered.
Umar's jaw tightened.
"The people who have been hunting you since the night your life changed."
Idris stepped forward.
"We don't have time to explain. We have to leave now."
The three of them hurried toward the back exit, but before they could reach it, armed men burst through the front entrance.
"There she is!" one of them shouted.
Without hesitation, Umar grabbed Tife's hand and pulled her behind a concrete pillar.
"Stay down!" he ordered.
Gunshots rang through the building.
The air filled with dust and smoke as bullets struck the walls.
Idris ducked behind an old container and returned fire, buying them precious seconds.
"We're trapped!" Tife cried.
"No," Umar replied firmly. "There's always a way out."
He led her through a narrow hallway, but another group of men appeared, blocking their path.
They had nowhere left to run.
Tife looked from Umar to Idris. Both men were risking their lives to protect her.
Her mind was filled with questions.
Who was telling the truth?
Who had been lying all along?
And why was she so important?
"Choose!" Idris shouted as another gunshot echoed through the warehouse.
Tife's hands trembled.
She looked into Idris's eyes. They were filled with pain, regret, and desperation.
Then she turned to Umar.
His eyes held only one promise.
I won't let anything happen to you.
Without another thought, she reached for Umar's hand.
For a brief moment, everything stood still.
Idris watched in silence.
Jealousy burned in his eyes, mixed with heartbreak.
"So..." he said quietly. "That's your choice."
Tife lowered her head.
"I don't know who to trust anymore."
Idris took a slow step closer.
"Even if you don't trust me, Tife... trust the truth. I never stopped trying to protect you."
Before she could answer, a deafening explosion ripped through the building.
The floor shook beneath them.
Concrete fell from the ceiling.
The lights flickered once...
Then everything went dark.
Through the smoke and confusion, a single gunshot echoed.
Tife screamed as someone collapsed to the ground.
But in the darkness...
She couldn't tell whether it was Umar...
...or Idris.
"We're trapped!" Tife cried.
