The Heir's Return

Chapter 12: The Heir's Return Night fell over Lagos. Black SUVs lined the entrance of the Kareem estate, their headlights cutting through the darkness like silent warnings. Tife stared through the car window as the massive gates slowly opened. "This is my family's home?" she whispered. Umar, seated beside her, nodded. "It was." She looked at him. "And now?" He held her gaze. "Now it's where your biggest enemies are waiting." The convoy came to a stop. Before Tife could gather her thoughts, Malik opened the car door. "They're ready for you." Inside, the mansion was breathtaking. Crystal chandeliers glowed above polished marble floors. Portraits of generations past lined the walls, each one watching her as if they had been waiting for this moment. The grand hall was already filled. Powerful men and women stood in silence as Tife entered. Whispers spread through the room. "She looks just like her mother." "I thought she died years ago." "So the rumors were true..." At the end of the hall stood an elderly man dressed in a white agbada. He slowly rose to his feet. "Welcome home, Tife Kareem." For a moment, she couldn't breathe. Home. A place she couldn't even remember. The old man stepped forward with a small wooden box. "Your father asked that this be given to you when the time was right." Tife's trembling hands lifted the lid. Inside lay a silver necklace with a crescent moon pendant... the same necklace from the old photograph. Tears filled her eyes. Before she could touch it— A voice echoed through the hall. "I object." Every head turned. A tall man walked in, surrounded by armed guards. His expensive suit couldn't hide the bitterness in his eyes. "My name is Farouk Kareem," he announced. "I am Kareem's younger brother." The hall erupted in whispers. Farouk's gaze settled on Tife. "You should never have returned." Umar stepped in front of her instantly. "Take one more step, and you'll regret it." Farouk smiled. "Still protecting her?" His eyes shifted to Idris. "And you... after all these years, you're standing beside the people who ruined your family." Idris's expression hardened. "My loyalty has never been for power." "It has always been for the truth." Farouk laughed. "The truth?" He reached into his pocket and pulled out another file. "Then perhaps she deserves all of it." He threw the file onto the floor. Photographs scattered across the marble. One by one, everyone stared. Tife bent down and picked up the first picture. Her heart stopped. It showed a much younger Umar... Standing beside her father. Not as a stranger. Not as a bodyguard. But as someone her father trusted. She slowly looked up. "Umar..." Her voice trembled. "You knew my father?" Silence. Umar closed his eyes for a brief moment. Then he answered. "Yes." The room fell deathly quiet. "And that's only the beginning." End of Chapter 12
