CHAPTER ONE
Milly groaned, annoyed at the continuous beeping of her alarm clock, she exhaled deeply as she tried her best to open her heavy eyelids, it was Monday again. ‘’uh’ she exclaimed before turning off the alarm. She examined around her room to the weekend disaster that made her bedroom look like a hurricane blew through it. She went into the bathroom and splashed water on her face a few times, ‘’ why is it Monday’’ she complained, she took a shower and wore a white button up shirt with her grey pair of pants, she scanned around her room looking for the grey coat to match, she finds is mixed up with some other clothes she had piled on the corner of the room, she pulled it out, there it over her arm and left the bedroom, she swiped her notepad from the table in her living room and stuffed it into her handbag before leaving the house. It was her daily routine to grab a cup of coffee at the café near her small apartment building and after that she would take a five minutes taxi ride to her work building, a few blocks away, that gave her some time to at least drink half of her coffee and put on some lipstick, Milly was a young and beautiful journalist, who wrote for the Manhattan post, it was her job to dig out most of Manhattan’s dirtiest secrets and produce headlines that either shaped politics or exposed scandals, her talent stood her out from others at the post but that was as far as her talents could take her, she spends most of her free time with at a healthcare center where Austin, her seven year old son was, he was diagnosed with type one diabetes at the age of four, since then Milly has worked hard to provide for his medication, she spends most of her income on the room her son stays and anything he might need to be comfortable she was a loving mother willing to do anything for her son.
That Monday she arrived early to the office, she walked out the elevator and marched straight to her desk, she continued the article her coworker talked her out of finishing the week before, she was focused on that when the elevator dinged, and her boss George came through the door.
‘’ Ms. West, I sure hope you didn’t make the office your home for the weekend’’ George said to her. It was his way of saying good morning and you’re early at the same time.
‘’ good morning George’’ milly said to him
‘’ if it’s good it means you have that article on Green Global ready I suppose’’
‘’ sending it to your mail now sir ’’
‘’ good morning to you then Ms. West’’
She sends the article and begins research on another project, which takes her attention for time she barely realized had passed. She is called back to reality when Lisa called her name for the third time, she turns to her and pretends to listen to her talk about her weekend but her eyes were mainly focused on Georges office, she saw through the large glass window that George was upset about something he had been told by one of the office staff, the news seemed unexpected and as George sat in his chair rubbing his chin, he catches Milly looking at him and signals her to come into the office, she gets up from her chair and walks quickly into the office leaving Lisa who hadn’t realized she had left her seat to blab to her empty chair.
Milly knocks twice on Georges door before going in, she shuts the door behind her and composes herself for the task George had for her.
‘’ I read your article on green global, it was really good’’ he told her.
‘’ thank you sir’’ she replied.
‘’you know we got an interview with the son of the owner of the company, do you know who he is?’’
‘’ Yes sir I do, Christian Green ‘’
‘’ good, Mary was to handle the interview this afternoon but she just called in an emergency, do you think you can handle it?’’
‘’ her emergency?’’
George remained silent to the question and Milly realizes her misunderstanding.
‘’ the interview … yes sir I would’’ she later adds
‘’ are you sure Ms. West’’
‘’ Yes sir I am ‘’
‘’ good then you can take the morning off to prepare but be here before noon, not at noon, before, understood?’’
‘’ Yes sir and thank you ‘’.
It was an opportunity she waited for to get most of her years at the post and now her debut comes with one of New York’s richest bachelors and business shark.
She squeaked with excitement as the door closed behind her, she quickly goes and grabs her things from her desk and says a quick ‘’see you later’’ to Lisa before walking to the elevator.
She quickly hails a cab and returns home to dig through her closet for an outfit that was formal enough for an interview, she found a black office pants and a suite vest but the pants had a stain on it so she rushed to the laundry mat across her apartment and sat there as waiting for almost an hour for a dry clean, in the mean time she made notes on questions she would ask in the interview, she made sure they were challenging enough for Georges approval and after that she rushed home and got dressed and went to a dinner for a solid breakfast she spent thirty minutes and returned to the office in time for George to read through her questions and approve, she couldn’t hide how nervous she was, luckily she had Lisa to distract her talks and jokes,
Christian was getting his sound check and mic arrangement done when he sees Milly take her seat, he smiles a little before a crew member tells him he could take his seat, he takes a seat opposite Milly and they both wait for the countdown to begin the interview.
Milly was a merciless in the questions she asked Christian but he proved capable by producing acceptable answers, together it seemed to be more of a debate than an interview, it was impressive the tension they both had between them, and for her first interview Milly impressed George who rewarded her with the day of.
Milly stood on the side walk in front the building waiting for a taxi when Christian spots her through the window of his black suburban where he sat in the back seat, he tells Garry, his driver, to stop in front of the building, he sat in the back seat and he rolls down his window and says: ‘’hey’’
Milly looks at him and replied with a ‘’ hello’’
‘’where are you headed’’ he asked
‘’ Downtown ‘’she replied raising her hand and signaling a taxi
‘’ Well let me give you a ride ‘’
‘’ Thank you but I believe you have somewhere far more important than where I am going, have a nice day ‘’
She gets into the taxi and it drives away, Christian rolls up his glass and orders Garry to take him to the restaurant where he was meeting Nickolas green, his father, he smiled for a moment then returned focus to his phone, he sent a text to his secretary instructing him to get the name of the reporter that handled the interview.
