Chapter Five

2520 Words
CHLEO I straightened my hair, applied some eyeliner and mascara, and put on the dress with a pair of black heels. My 5’6’ self needed the boost to match Killian’s 6’3” body. As I picked up my phone, Killian knocked on my door before opening it and walking in. When I thought about it, I hadn’t asked him how he got into my room before. “You have a key?” I asked. “Oh,” he said, looking at the card in his hand. “Yeah, I had Greg procure it for me earlier.” “You could’ve asked,” I said. “I have a second card on the desk.” “Would you have given it to me?” “Probably not right away,” I admitted. “That’s why I got one for myself,” he sighed. “I promise to knock before I use it, unless you tell me otherwise.’ “It’s okay,” I said. “You’re the King, you can do whatever you want.” “Be that as it may, I will respect your privacy and boundaries. I may be King, but I’m your mate first.” He finally looked me over and his eyes widened as he swallowed. “You look absolutely stunning, Chleo.” I blushed but took the opportunity to do a twirl, showing off my bare back. “Thank you,” I said, “you look great, too.” One second he was standing by the door and the next he was right in front of me, so close I could feel his body heat and my breath got caught in my throat. “A strapless, backless dress, Little Star?” He asked. “It hugs your curves just right.” His hands were on my shoulders but they slowly descended, sending a rush of heat through my body and straight to my libido. His right hand dipped under my dress and between my legs, and I gasped. “Your body responds to my touch so fast. I look forward to exploring it.” I gulped. “You do?” “Mhm, but we’ll have time for that later, right now it’s time to go,” he said, pulling away. “We have a reservation.” “Oh, that was not fair,” I said, glaring at his blue eyes. “I never said I’d play fair, Little Star,” he said with a smile. “We can take things slow if you wish, but I don’t think your wolf will allow it. I can smell your arousal, and it's driving mine crazy.” He took my hand and lead me out of my room. As we walked down the hallway, I couldn’t help looking at him. Dark brown hair, blazing blue eyes, and rock hard muscles that sculpted his body. He was exactly my type. When we reached the lobby doors, he placed his hand on the small of my back as we walked out. “A limo,” I observed, “how cliche, Killian.” “Well, I am the King and I wouldn’t dare take my Queen out in anything else,” he said, opening the door and gesturing for me to climb inside first. “I’m not a Queen,” I said. “You are,” he replied, “it may not be official but in the eyes of the other packs, you are.” “This is too fast,” I said. “I just found out I have a second chance and I’m still adjusting to that. But being Queen is a lot of responsibility and I doubt the packs will accept me as such.” “They will and those that don’t won’t have a choice.” “And what about my choice?” I asked. “You’re mine, Chleo. The Goddess has bound you to me, and unlike your other mate, I don’t let go of what’s mine.” Now instead of lust, I was fuming. Nobody treats me like property. “Listen, Your Majesty, just because the Goddess paired us, doesn’t mean I belong to you. I am my own person with my own thoughts and feelings. Nobody possesses me.” “Chleo,” he began. “No!” I yelled, cutting him off. “I’m sure you’re used to women falling at your feet, giving in to those blue eyes and f*****g you whenever and wherever you choose, but let’s get this straight,” I said. “Mate or not, King or not, you will treat me as your equal, because that is what I am. I am not your property.” “Well,” he said, “there’s that fire I knew was inside of you.” “Excuse me?” “Little Star,” he cleared his throat, “Chleo, I’ve been told my entire life that my mate would be fierce, strong willed, and brave. Yes, I’m used to women throwing themselves at me, but I want you to give yourself to me because of me, Killian, not because I’m the King. Yes, I want you. f**k, I want you more than I’ve ever wanted any woman, but I will never force you. When I said you’re mine, my Queen, I meant that as you will be respected as such. The Goddess paired us because I can be an arrogant asshole, and it’s clear you have no problem putting me in my place. You are my equal, my partner, I know you are your own person and I’m sorry I made you feel otherwise.” I crossed my arms and stared at him. “Killian,” I said, feeling my anger soften. “I’m sorry for snapping at you. It’s just that I have worked hard, to get where I am. I put the pieces of my broken, shattered heart back together after my ‘mate’ rejected me and made a life for myself. Yes, I’ve been with other men and no, they never made me feel the way you have. But lust, isn’t going to change me.” “I don’t want you to change,” he said. “What I see, is what I get and I’m happy with that. I would never, will never, want you to change. I know how hurt you were, Alpha Johnson told me. He also told me how strong you are and I admire that.” He placed his hand on top of mine. “Can we start over, please?” KILLIAN She relaxed her body, laced her fingers with mine, and snuggled close. “Yes,” she said, “we can start over.” “So much for a good first impression,” I added. I had definitely put my foot in my mouth and regretted it. “Killian,” she started, “you’re the King. You’ve been raised to get everything you want and say whatever you want. I can’t fault you for that. But I won’t go easy on you.” “I wouldn’t have it any other way, Little Star,” her nickname sounded so good to say. “Let me show you, give you, what you deserve. I promise to prove myself worthy of you.” “Worthy of me?” She asked. “Im pretty sure I should be proving myself worthy of you.” “Not a chance,” I told her. “It is a man’s job to court his mate, not the other way around. Women are supposed to be treasured; they take our name, give us their love, bodies, and babies, eventually. The least we can do is earn them. That’s what I’m going to do,” I said. “I’m going to earn you, no matter how long it takes.” We arrived at the restaurant, she’d been silent for a few minutes but I didn’t want to push her. The hostess showed us to our table, a private one on the balcony, and poured us some wine. She took our orders, Chleo requested a steak and potatoes and I ordered salmon with a salad. When our food arrived, Chleo snapped out of her haze, and looked at me. “So, babies?” She asked. Of the entire speech I gave in the car`, it was the babies she held onto. “Yes, babies,” I said. “Of course I want heirs. Little versions of me and you running around the palace, stirring up trouble and growing into their own. Don’t you?” “I’m only twenty-one,” she said. “But yes, I’ve always dreamt of having babies.” “How many?” “At least two,” she said. “I want a boy and a girl. I’m very close to my brother and I want my kids to be just as close.” “I’m close with my sister, as well,” I told her. “You have a sister?” She asked. “A twin sister,” I explained, “Jillian is just as headstrong as you are, she’ll love you.” “Where is she?” “Probably at home with Greg,” I told her. “He’s her mate and they have a cottage on the palace grounds.” “Greg is your brother in-law?” “Brother in-law, second in command, but first and foremost, my best friend. When he found out my sister was his fated mate, he thought I’d kill him. I wanted to, at first, but he proved himself to her. He courted her properly, earned her love, and they waited a full two years before they had their ceremony. They’re happy,” I said. “I hope we will be just as happy together.” “Adam, my brother, is mated to Natalie,” she said. “She is truly the best sister I’ve ever had. They had my niece, Leah, a couple weeks after I graduated, she’s a joy.” The way she lit up when she spoke of her family was an amazing sight. “Do you have any nieces or nephews?” “Not yet,” I said. “Jillian wants to finish school before they have any little ones.” “What’s she in school for?” “She’s an artist, and a damn good one,” I boasted. “She loves to draw and paint, ever since we were kids, she had her nose in a sketch book. She graduates next spring.” “That’s amazing,” she said. “I never made it to college.” “That’s alright,” I said. “Do you want to go?” “Yes,” she admitted. “I’ve always wanted to work with kids, to be a teacher.” “What’s stopping you?” I asked. “Well, for starters I’ve worked for my Alpha since I graduated from High School,” she started. “Now, it looks like I’ll be busy being a Queen.” “You can do whatever you want to do, Chleo,” I said. “You want to teach kids, I’ll pay for you to go to school and get your degree. You can teach at the elementary school here or you can homeschool our kids. I want you to pursue all of your dreams.” “Including you?” She asked. “Especially me,” I told her. “I hope I’m your number one dream.” She smiled and blushed. “You are,” she said. “I’ve been dreaming of you since I was seventeen.” “I’ve been dreaming of you since I was twenty-one,” I said. I took her hand in mine and kissed it. “I’ve been waiting my entire life to find you.” “I hope I haven’t disappointed you,” she said. “Not at all,” I told her. “You’re everything I’ve wanted and more. The Goddess couldn’t have done any better in choosing my mate.” “Killian,” she started, “what happens now?” “What do you mean?” “Well, I have a life in Pearl; a job I love, an apartment, my family, my best friend, and a cat. I know I’m expected to move here but this is very fast and I never expected to find a mate.” “Obviously I want you here with me,” I said. “But I know your life is in Pearl and you have things to sort out. I’ll make you a deal, after this retreat, I’ll accompany you to Pearl. I’ll meet your family and we’ll sort out the details of our ceremony.” “s**t,” she said, “the ceremony. How soon are we expected to have it?” “It’s tradition for the King to claim his mate as soon as possible, I’m sure Greg can buy us a little time but I don’t know how long. I’d like to start our life together now.” “How much time can I have to have a proper goodbye with my family and pack?” “Two weeks?” “Can we make it three?” She asked. “I can live with that,” I said. “You mentioned a cat?” “Dash,” she said with a smile. “He’s my little best friend. I found him in a dumpster and adopted him. He’s sweet.” “Then he’ll have his own room in the palace.” “His own room? He’s a cat.” “Yes, but he’s the Queen’s cat. He’ll be treated like a little prince. Of course he can explore the palace all he wants, but we’ll have a litter box, toys, a bed, etc., in a room just for him.” “He loves people, in fact he’s a huge cuddle bug. I’m sure he’d want to sleep next to me at night, like he does now.” “Uhhh,” I said. “I know, it’s not ideal.” “It’s not but I don’t want to tell you no, we’ll figure something out. For now, let’s enjoy these next few days together before we meet each other’s families.” “Okay,” she said. A text on my phone took my attention. It was from Jillian. Jillian: Greg told me the good news. Jillian: When can I meet her? Is she beautiful? Me: She’s amazing. Her name is Chleo and she’s the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen, apart from you and mom. Jillian: Ask her if we can have lunch tomorrow, I want to spend time with my new sister. Besides, you and Greg will be busy most of the day anyway. “Speaking of meeting family,” I started, “my sister would like to have lunch with you tomorrow.” “Really?” I showed her the texts. “Really.” “I’d love to,” she said with a big smile. Me: Chleo would love to have lunch with you. Jillian: Yay! I’ll be at the hotel at noon.
