Grey looked insanely nervous.
He was waiting for me on the picnic in a field near the Bonepike’s palace.
“Please sit,” He smiled as he smoothed the blanket out.
I smiled as I did. “This looks really nice.”
“It was kind of last minute, so I hoped that you would like it.”
I surveyed the cookies, cupcakes and brownies. I also noticed a bottle.
“What’s that?”
“It’s a dessert wine.”
“Oh…I’ve never had wine before,” I admitted. “But I’d love to try it. As long as it doesn’t burn the way Enzo’s alcohol does.”
“I assure you it doesn’t. Speaking of Enzo, did he um…talk to you about this date?”
“Yeah he did. He’s not very happy.”
“Yeah, he expressed the same to me,” Grey sighed. “I mean he didn’t exactly say that I couldn’t go out with you, but he did reveal how he didn’t like the idea of it.
“Why do you think he doesn’t like the thought of us together?” I asked.
“Well…he’s clearly very protective of you.”
“I understood with Luc. He is kind of skeezy, but you’re not Grey. You’re a good guy…right?”
“I hope I am,” Grey said. “I-I try to be and I like you a lot and would never want to hurt you.”
“I believe you won’t.” I smiled. “Let’s stop talking about Enzo. This is our date.”
“You’re right, we should be getting to know each other better. When’s your birthday?”
“Um…I don’t have birthdays.”
Grey frowned. “You’ve never had a birthday?”
I shook my head. “No. I um…I actually don’t know what day I was born.”
“Celine, what kind of people did you live with before this?”
“They’re really unlike anyone else on this planet.”
“So no birthday…um did you ever have a Christmas?”
“Nope.”
“This is horrible, Celine.”
“I’m sorry, am I ruining the date?” I asked.
“No, of course not!” Grey said quickly. “It just seems like you had a sad life before this.”
“It wasn’t exactly sad but I think…I think I was lonely.”
“Are you lonely now?”
“With you? Never.” I smiled. “When’s your birthday?”
“November sixteenth.”
“Grey, that’s next week!” I gasped. “You weren’t going to tell me?”
“I don’t want to make a big deal about it,” He shrugged.
“Why are you so okay with being more in the background?”
“It’s what I’m supposed to do. I’m a Beta. I’m supposed to support the Alpha. I was never meant to be the leader or the important one. It’s what my dad used to tell me.”
“Oh that’s sad too.”
“So we both have sad things in our life,” Grey smiled slightly. “That means we’re trauma bonding.”
“Is that a good thing?”
“No, but it’s still kinda romantic to me.”
I laughed as I grabbed a cookie. It was so soft and still kind of warm. The chocolate chips practically melted in my mouth.
“Oh these are amazing!” I gushed.
“I’m glad, I was kind of worried when the Bonepikes showed me to the kitchen.” Grey handed me a glass.
I sipped the wine slowly and was pleasantly surprised that it didn’t burn my throat. I could get used to this wine.
“So, if you weren’t a Beta, what would you want to do?” I asked.
Grey looked taken aback. “No one’s ever asked me that before…um let me think about it.”
I took that time to take another drink.
“I think I’d like to learn magic.” Grey said finally. “I think it’s so fascinating.”
“I can do a bit of magic, you know?” I smiled.
“Really?” I conjured up some sparkles in my hands and threw them over him. He laughed loudly. “How did you do that?”
“It’s a secret.”
“Any other magic you know?”
“I can fly, but…I’ll show you that later. That’s more of a second date thing.”
“So there will be a second date?” Grey smiled.
“I mean…I think there will be.” I admitted. “This is fun. I don’t get to talk to people like this very much.”
“Yeah me neither. I love being a Beta but it can feel so isolating sometimes and then you came and…”
“And?”
“I’ve just never met anyone like you, Celine. Your smile is the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen and your laugh makes my heart race. And when you touch me, I feel like I’m floating.”
I swallowed hard. “That’s some of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me.”
“I’m both happy and upset about that. People should tell you every day how special you are, but if I’m the first one to make you feel that way, I’m honored.”
“I would stay on Earth to go on a million dates with you,” I blurted out.
“That’s one of the nicest things anyone’s ever said to me,” Grey chuckled. “You say weird things, but I always really like them. Where have you been all my life?”
I pointed to the sky. “Up there.”
“So Luc was right? You did fall from heaven? How did it feel?”
“Perfect.”
I truly don’t think I had ever had a conversation with anyone else the way I did with Grey. Except Enzo, I guess.
But I didn’t have to worry about raunchy comments and a crazy temper with Grey. He was just so sweet and happy. I liked that he was like me. He saw the positive in a lot of things.
We laid down on the blanket and looked up at the stars.
I knew at some point Grey stopped looking at the stars and he was looking at me. I was kind of nervous to look at him, but after finishing off the bottle of wine, I felt brave enough to.
“Hi,” I whispered.
“Hey,” He breathed.
Grey turned towards me and propped his head up with his hand. I followed suit and we just stared at each other for a few moments. I think he was going to kiss me.
Finally Grey reached over and gently touched my face. “You’re so beautiful Celine.”
“So are you, Grey.”
He leaned over and pressed his lips against mine. A strange sensation floated through my body that didn’t when I kissed Sander. This was like fireworks bursting in the sky. I could see pops of green and pink as I closed my eyes and kissed him back.
Grey slowly pushed me on my back and kissed me harder. My hand went to the back of his head and I let my fingers get tangled in his hair.
“Is this okay?” Grey whispered.
I nodded before kissing him again.
It was more than okay.
--
I think I was a little tipsy.
Grey and I were walking back to the palace, hand in hand giggling wildly.
“I like kissing you,” I said.
“Then do it again.” Grey pulled me to him and kissed me.
I was kissing a cute boy under the stars. How was this my life?
“We should get back,” Grey sighed as he pulled away from me.
I felt the same disappointment. I could have stayed out there with him all night. But then I remembered we were in the same room!
We tiptoed through the dark palace, still giggling until we reached our room.
I laid down on the bed and a shirtless Grey quickly joined me. He climbed on top of me as he kissed me passionately. My body was going kind of crazy. I had never had these feelings except for when Sela was with Lev.
Grey kissed down my chin, to my jaw and then to my neck. I let out an unexpected moan.
“I knew you’d have a sweet spot there,” Grey murmured against my skin before sinking his teeth in.
That got an even bigger moan out of me. I wrapped my arms around Grey and felt the muscles in his back. They were flexing as his hands moved to touch me. He seemed very strategic about what he touched.
So far only my waist and my thighs. He was still a gentleman and I loved that.
Grey kissed my lips as he gently grinded against me. I kind of squealed, feeling his erection. I think Grey noticed how jittery I suddenly got.
“I’m guessing you’re not the kind of girl that has s*x with someone on the first date?” Grey asked, breathing heavily.
“Not usually…or ever.” I laughed.
“I didn’t cross a line, did I?”
“No…I like this a lot.” I smiled. “I like your lips.”
I slowly pushed his head back down and kissed him again.
I stayed up kissing Grey until the early hours of the morning and though I didn’t have s*x with him, I knew at some point I would like to.
