Amy
From the depths of my sleep, I came back to my consciousness when I heard something start ringing. Slowly, I opened my eyes to know where it was coming from. On my left, I saw the alarm clock I set before sleeping. Currently, it was giving me the reading of 4:30 early morning.
Too early to wake up even if you have a 7 a.m. duty. But for today, I decided to set the alarm to ring very early in order for me to have plenty of time to prepare everything before I set outside. Because my previous employer had died, I opted to find another job. Luckily before the day ended yesterday, I successfully found one. Though the problem is that I needed to have an interview first before they officially accept me. Because the employer/interviewer of the coffee shop where I would try to get hired was not in that place anymore at that time, one of the employees suggested that I should be back on or before six sharp of next day. And that is today.
Of course, I would try to get even earlier. Maybe 5:45 I should be already there.
I reached the alarm clock to silence it already.
From the bed, I lifted myself up and did stretching. I then did my bed before going outside my room to start preparing everything.
“Oh, Amy, you are awake already?” asked by mother upon she made it outside her room. She saw me cooking in the kitchen.
I faced her first before replying, “Yes, Ma. Good morning. But you should be back to the bed. I am now cooking breakfast.”
I then faced back what I am cooking.
In an everyday scenario, my mother was always the one that cooks the family meal. But because I have an errand to attend before 6:00 a.m. arrived, I don’t want to disturb the slumber of my family and just took on the obligation of cooking what I would be eating before leaving the house.
My mother replied, “Good morning, too, Amy. I got woken up smelling something. I thought, someone that either someone is cooking or we were on fire. But there you are cooking. I don’t think I could sleep back. Amy, could you answer this question of mine?”
From having my attention to what I am cooking, I went stiff on my stance hearing the question of mother. That tone of her demanded that I should answer her in one hundred percent truthfulness. What will be this question of her?
Does she already know the death of Mrs. Cristobal?
“What is it, Ma?” I asked.
She replied, “It is just several minutes past 5:00 a.m.. Yet you are already cooking there. This is so early and it is supposed to be my job. Why do it at this early?”
Hearing what she responded, it made me think that mother had not been told by anyone that my employer already died yesterday. Yeah, maybe that is the case. Because of that, I decided to lie this another time.
Oh well, here we go again…
“Ahm, Ma. Mrs. Cristobal told us that we should be early today. I don’t know the reason why, but she said yesterday that she won’t be opening the flower shop today. Maybe she is planning for an event? Maybe a celebration?”
But what I think I pulled again another convincing lie, seeing mother just gave me no reaction to everything I had said, it made me think that she was already aware I was lying.
Oh no!
“Amy, I and your father tried our very best to grow you into a decent lady. And lying is not decent. I didn’t teach you to commit bad. You know, I and your father hated liars. But why are you lying in my very front like you are already used to it? The confidence in everything you said is alarming! Also, why bring into this kind of conversation a dead woman? You should be ashamed of yourself. Amy, why are you being like this?”
Hearing what mother said, I made a gulp. But even though how I wanted to enlighten my part to mother and be sincere when asking for an apology, I told her that I needed to rush things already. When I came back home later that’s the time I will tell her everything. At first, mother insisted to have her questions to me be answered. But when I told her that I had a job interview to catch, she instantly calmed down. Probably she finally connected the dots of why I am being troublesome. After I had my breakfast and made several final preparations. I then bid farewell to all the people in the house.
It was 5:43 a.m. when I finally made it to Strong & Tasty Coffee Shop. This is the place where I am planning to get hired. Upon I opened the entrance door, my eyes scanned the entire place and saw Anastasia cleaning the just vacated table. Upon our stares meet, she smiled. She still looked as beautiful as when I left her yesterday.
“Good morning, Amy,” she said as she approached me.
“Good morning, Ana,” I replied.
“Looks like you are really decided to be one of the fam. Come with me, I will be guiding you to where the owner of this place was.”
“Okay… and thank you,” I replied.
From where we are, I and Ana walk toward a particular room where we saw a guy that maybe aged the same as me and Anastacia. He had black hair and a well-disciplined body. He is also tall. His blue eyes are so intimidating to look into. I didn’t know that the owner of this place is so handsome!
When I heard Anastasia speak, “Good morning once again, Sir Louise. This is Amethyst Diadema and the one that I am talking to you. Amy, he is the owner of this place and the one that will be interviewing you. He is Louise Dornan.”
The owner of the coffee shop then spoke, “Thank you for that small introduction, Ana. You can now go back outside to resume what you are doing. Your duty would now end moments from now on.”
Hearing that it made me remember that the duty of Ana is six to six. I took a peek at my wristwatch and found out that it is just ten more minutes before six. Ten more minutes and Ana would have her shift ended.
I brought back my stare to Louise and had found out that the guy was intently staring at me. When I made a quick smile he replied me with a gentle curve of his lips.
Seeing that it made me confused.
Why he make himself appear to be friendly to me? He is my soon-to-be employer. Why?
