Chapter 10: Letter

1323 Words
Lander   It was past seven in the morning when I made it to the family’s mansion. The Delickr’s mansion. The sun had already made a noticeable angle to the sky, but the cold breeze of the wind was still prevalent. In order to enjoy the current ambiance on my way here to the mansion, I opened both front seat windows of my Lexus.   “Good morning, Sir,” greeted by the guard who was stationed on the main gate entering the mansion. He already opened the gate.   “Good morning, too,” I replied as I drove inside. But before I proceeded furthermore into the mansion, I idle the SUV and went outside. I then approached the array of six mailboxes.   Since each of the members of the family had their respective businesses of their own, father decided to segregate the letters that were being sent to the mansion. Because of this, the six mailboxes had been made. One is for me, the three are for my brothers, one is for my parents, and the last one is for the employees of this house. I went to my mailbox and opened it. It had five envelopes to which I picked them all. I closed back the mailbox and went to the SUV. I then drove the car furthermore into the mansion.   “Okay, let’s see…” I said to myself when I made it inside my room. I seated myself on the couch and made a quick scan of the five envelopes that had been mailed to me today. This is to know what to prioritize first. This also had been a routine of mine on a daily basis. Before I went to the shower, I will first read the mails.   In the five envelopes, three of them appeared to be an invitation. One is for a baby shower, one is for a birthday, and the other is an archery tournament. Meanwhile, the other two are letters came from my college friends that are very lazy to just chat me online.   If you are wondering why all of the letters that I received sounded more personal, it’s because the letters that are being sent in the mansion are intended to be personal. Regarding the official business letters, those are being sent in the respective business quarters of each member of the family.   I rearranged the five envelopes with the top is what I will be reading first.   I picked up this particular envelope and opened it. I then read it.   Good day, Mr. Lander Delickr! You have been invited to witness the twenty-fourth birthday celebration of Lady Veronica Stellar. Please be in your best formal attire as this celebration would be unforgettable. We hope to see you there at the time and place stated below.   After reading the letter, I just realized that I had my eyebrows clashing to each other. I am confused, truth be told. Even though this invitation sounded typical than other invitations that I am always receiving, the name of the birthday celebrant didn’t ring a bell to my hearing.   Is this letter is really meant for me? Probably yes because it is addressed to me. But who is Lady Veronica Stellar? She sounded royalty, but why did I just hear her name just now?   But because I am lazy to search online to know who is this particular lady, I just leave it to a predetermined time and place to know who exactly this lady is. When I am done reading all the contents of the envelope I then decided to take my shower. Several minutes pass and when I’m done I suit up.   I went to the dining area to have breakfast. But what I think I will be just alone there filling my stomach, to my surprise my three brothers are all present there. Seeing their sight there, it makes me wonder why we are in perfect attendance in this place. Being the four of us together in the dining area is such a rare phenomenon. You see, we are all busy individuals. But being in this moment I know that there is news. But what exactly it is?   “Good morning, brothers!” I greeted them as I finally approach the dining table. From having their attention to each other as they fill their stomachs, Maxwell, Christian, and Arnold one by one face me.   “Oh, Brother!” they said. “Come join us!”   I just nodded as a reply. I helped myself by serving my breakfast.   “Oh, what’s with the silence?” I asked the moment I noticed that my brothers were so focused on what they were eating.   They didn’t first answer me and just exchange a dubious look with each other as if they were hesitant of who to speak first and what to speak. But it seemed that the second of the eldest already took the responsibility.   Maxwell spoke, “Brother Land, had you also received an invitation to the birthday party of someone whose name is Lady Veronica Stellar?”   I slowly nodded as a response. I first swallowed first the contents of my mouth before speaking, “Yes, I received. Wait. Don’t tell me you three also?”   “Yes, we did, Brother,” Christian responded. He is the third eldest of us siblings. He asked, “So, who is your date?”   Upon hearing it, my eyebrows once again met. Did I hear Christian exactly?   I responded, “What do you mean, Christian? I know that I have read everything in that letter. But why are you asking me about bringing a date to that birthday party? I hadn’t read that one on the invitation letter.”   Once again, my brothers exchange looks. It took them some while before the youngest spoke. He is Arnold Delickr, “But on our invitation, Brother Land, we are required to bring a date to that birthday party. So our concern is if you had a partner already. Had you already thought of someone to bring in that party?”   From the youngest, I looked at my other brothers to know if they were not just pulling a leg to me. And just what I thought, same with how serious is Arnold to me, Christian and Arnold are also giving me serious look.   Now what?   I took another spoon of food before responding, “Then I think I won’t be coming to the party.”   “That is the thing you should not do, brother,” Maxwell quickly spoke. His tone is more like threatening me. I got surprised hearing that.   “Why?” I asked after I recovered myself.   Christian responded, “Brother, you are doing that every time there is a celebration that includes going together with a date. Please don’t do that again.”   “And is that even a big deal?” I asked.   “Of course!” Arnold replied. “ And truth be told, that is what we are also talking about before you came in the dining. Brother Land, can you please consider the option of going to that party together with a date? Other than being a no-show? Because that is very rude.”   “Okay…” my only word upon being taken aback with what the youngest had said. He sounded more mature than I was. Oh well…   “But I haven’t yet found someone to date,” I said honestly.   “Just don’t worry about that,” Maxwell replied. “We already talked that one.”   “What are you planning to do?” I asked. I sounded confused.   “We will be finding you a date, of course,” Christian revealed.   Immediately upon hearing my eyes widened. “What?”   “Worry not, brother, we will try our best to find a lady that perfectly matches you.”   And I just left with my mouth opened.   I can’t believe this!
