“Let’s got to the house, Tricks,” Alec said, as Detrick started to drive us away from the forest. “Do you want to stay with us tonight, Olive? We should probably have the doc check you out too.”
“Yes,” Olive whispered still trembling in shock, “but I should call my mom.”
Detrick passed her his cellphone.
“And if you’re up to it, Olive, we really need to discuss what you know and what happened from your perspective,” Aric said gently.
I shuddered and held me tighter against him. My legs were across Alec’s lap, and he started rubbing them to warm me with friction.
“Mom?” Olive was speaking on the phone. “Mom, I’m fine.” Her voice broke. “Yeah, she’s fine too, mom. We’re both ok.”
I was a little surprised my mom was even concerned for my wellbeing, but I suppose she wasn’t heartless
