👉 Chapter One: A New Beginning
The bus slowed to a halt, its brakes hissing as Amira clutched her small suitcase tightly. Her heart raced with anticipation and fear. The city loomed before her, vast and unfamiliar, its lights flickering against the evening sky. She had left everything behind—her hometown, her friends, the memories she wanted to forget. This was supposed to be her fresh start.
Dragging her suitcase down the crowded street, Amira inhaled deeply. The air smelled of roasted corn, exhaust fumes, and something faintly sweet. It was overwhelming, yet strangely comforting. She found her new apartment tucked in a narrow alleyway, a modest space with peeling paint but a warm glow that welcomed her.
As night fell, Amira unpacked slowly. She placed books on a rickety shelf, pinned her late mother’s scarf by the window, and whispered a silent promise to herself. This time, I’ll be okay.
Then, a sound drew her attention.
Across the alley, through a half-drawn curtain, she noticed a figure. A man, seated in darkness, his head bowed as though carrying the weight of the world. His shoulders were tense, his movements restless. Just as she leaned closer, his face turned slightly, and for a fleeting second, their eyes met.
A chill ran down Amira’s spine. His gaze was intense—filled with pain, secrets, and something she couldn’t name. Before she could look away, he pulled the curtain shut.
Amira stepped back, her heart pounding. She hadn’t come here to get involved in anyone’s story. But something told her this was just the beginning.
