Some crowns are inherited. Others are forged in suffering.

In a world where women are sold like property and freedom is a crime, Elena dares to dream of a different destiny.

When tragedy tears her world apart, she flees with nothing but her sister’s final words: “You are our hope.”

But beyond the darkness awaits a dangerous secret, a mysterious stranger, and a love that could either save her or destroy her.

They wanted her in chains.

They never imagined she would rise to wear the crown.

CHAPTER ONE : THE EDGE OF NO RETURN
Cries echoed in the distance. Hearts pounded, and the skies were filled with chaos. No one was ready, but brutality came knocking. Elena ran as fast as she could. Her sister had been captured, and now she risked her life to escape this brutal world. As she ran, her sister's last words echoed in her mind. “You are our hope. I believe in you.” Tears streamed down Elena's face, yet she refused to stop running. Branches scratched her skin as she forced her way through the dark forest. Her legs ached, and her lungs burned, but the fear of being captured pushed her forward. Behind her, soldiers shouted. “Find the girl! Don't let her escape!” Elena's heart pounded harder. The girl. That was all she was to them. Not a human being with dreams, fears, and a future, but another woman to be captured and sold. In the Kingdom of Veyra, women had become possessions. Wealthy men bought them, powerful families traded them, and the royal palace did nothing to stop the cruelty. Those who dared to resist were punished. Elena had watched it happen to others. Never had she imagined that her own family would become a victim. She stumbled over a tree root and fell to the ground. Pain shot through her knee, but she quickly struggled to her feet. She wanted to turn back for her sister. She wanted to scream until the whole world heard her pain. But she knew what would happen if she returned. They would capture her too, and the sacrifice her sister had made would mean nothing. A loud shout interrupted her thoughts. “There! She's over there!” Elena turned and caught sight of two soldiers pushing through the trees. Their uniforms carried the royal symbol: a black crown wrapped in silver chains. The Crown of Veyra. The very symbol that had destroyed her family. She ran again, desperate to escape their reach. The trees began to thin, and a faint light appeared ahead. Hope stirred in her heart as she rushed toward it. But when she emerged from the forest, her steps came to an abrupt halt. A cliff. Before her stretched a deep gorge, with a wild river rushing between jagged rocks far below. Mist rose from the depths, hiding parts of the valley. There was no bridge. No road. No escape. Behind her, the soldiers emerged from the trees. “It's over, girl,” one of them said, raising his sword. “Come quietly, and you might live.” Elena stared at him in disbelief. Live? What kind of life could they offer her? One where strangers owned her freedom? One where she would spend every day serving the same people who had torn her sister away? She thought of her sister's smile, her gentle voice, and the promise they had made beneath the old mango tree years ago. Whatever happens, Elena, we stay together. They had believed those words would protect them. They had been wrong. The soldier stepped closer. “Move away from the edge.” Elena shook her head, tears burning her eyes. “I would rather die free than live as your property.” His expression darkened. “Do you dare defy the Crown?” Elena lifted her chin. “I do.” For a brief moment, silence fell between them. Then the soldier lunged. Elena stepped back instinctively. Loose stones crumbled beneath her feet, and she reached desperately for a branch. It snapped. Her body tilted backward, and a scream escaped her lips as she fell beyond the edge. The soldiers watched in shock as she disappeared into the mist. Wind roared in her ears. The world spun around her, and the river rushed toward her like an open mouth. She thought of her sister one last time. You are our hope. Elena squeezed her eyes shut. God, if You can hear me, please don't let my story end here. Then everything went dark. --- Cold water brushed against Elena's face. She opened her eyes slowly, confused by the darkness surrounding her. For several moments, she could not remember where she was. Then the memories returned. The soldiers. The cliff. The fall. She struggled to sit up, groaning as exhaustion swept through her body. Wet stones surrounded her, and the river flowed quietly nearby. She was alive. But how? Elena looked around. She had somehow reached the other side of the gorge, far from where the soldiers had cornered her. She forced herself to stand, holding onto a rock for support. Her entire body trembled, but she refused to surrender to exhaustion. A distant horn sounded. She froze. The soldiers were still searching. If they discovered she had survived, they would hunt her down again. Elena glanced toward the dark forest ahead. She had no food, no shelter, and no idea where she was. Her sister was gone, and the kingdom she had once called home had become her enemy. Yet she was still alive. And as long as she lived, she would fight. She would find her sister. She would uncover the secrets of the Crown of Veyra. And one day, she would make the kingdom answer for its cruelty. With renewed determination, Elena disappeared into the forest. Unbeknownst to her, a man watched from the shadows. His dark cloak blended with the trees, and his sharp eyes followed her every movement. “So,” he murmured, “one of them survived.” Another man stepped out behind him. “Should I inform the palace?” “No.” “But the king—” “Must know nothing about her. Not yet.” The second man bowed his head. “And what should we do?” The stranger's gaze remained fixed on the forest. “Find out who she is. And make certain no one else finds her first.” Far away, beneath the black towers of the royal palace, a bell began to ring. The signal of the Crown. Before sunrise, the entire kingdom would hear the news of a prisoner's escape. But Elena was no longer running merely to save herself. She was running toward a truth that could destroy a kingdom. And somewhere behind the palace walls, a crown waited for the girl who had dared to defy it.
