"Love," I hear a voice whisper, "I think you should take a break." I turn around to see my father-in-law. "Luke is in the hospital."
I know I can't speak and that I shouldn't try, but I nearly scream making my throat seer with pain.
"I thought he was taking orders, what happened," I type on my phone.
Luke's dad takes my hand and we both sit near the back, "he was but, one of the men burnt Luke's eye because he made a simple mistake."
My head floods with many questions, "will Luke be okay? Who was that man? What will happen to the restaurant?"
"I think Luke will be okay. The man was caught, and I don't know his name. You might as well close the restaurant until Luke is better. I'm sorry, Love."
I then think of my daughter, "what will I do with Rose? I can't speak, and she doesn't know that."
The man sighs, "we'll tell Rose," then he smiles. "Want to go see Luke?"
I nod then went to wash my hands and Luke's dad helps to tell everyone what happened. I walk to my car and waited for my father-in-law, when he is ready, I followed him to the hospital. The second I park into the parking lot, I begin to feel dizzy. Jason takes my right arm and wraps it around his neck. We continue walking to Luke's hospital room. I feel numb, and nearly fall over twice, but Jason holds me study. Luke is lying on the hospital bed when his dad and I enter. He has a bandage that wraps around his left eye, I fly over to him with tears rolled down my cheeks. I grab his hand which feels ice cold, his black hair is singed in some places. The heartbeat monitor tells me he is alive, but I'm sure he is going to die since not very many people live from eye burns. Maybe Luke will, but the chances are very rare. He is in a coma, and no-one knows for how long.
"Hey, Love," Luke had said laughing and I look at him and shrugged, "you've got a bit of chocolate on your cheek." I look at him, and Luke took his finger and brushed my cheek. I blush and smile, Luke smiles too and laughed his mother sprayed us with a hose. Luke's dad took a picture.
I release my husband's hand and begin sobbing onto the sheets. My whole world is falling apart again, in front of my eyes. I feel a hand rubbing my back and telling me that it'll be okay. So many people have told me it'll be okay, and it never is.
