Chapter 1 - The Turner Street House
There's always that one house. The one in town that everyone seems to be afraid of. Most of them have lists of former owners or a story of someone dying in them. Considering how many people populate most places, it would be only natural that people sometimes die at home. But the human imagination can't seem to let that go. There are tales of spooks and demons. Most with enough facts are attached to create a twisted urban legend from them. Eventually, the legends fade and leave something of a foreboding feeling attached to the place that no one can understand. Hunters have taken to checking these locations to either prove or debunk the possibilities of the paranormal. Even with the analysis of these phenomena tending to prove that claims were false, not every story seems to have such a clear ending . The sun broke through the cracks in the blinds to announce morning. It has the same effect it did every day. Evan put his pillow over his head to cover the sudden brightness. He wasn't a morning person by any means. One day, he'd finally remember to buy some blackout blinds. He had almost fallen back to sleep when there was a knock at the door. "Wake up, dude!"He heard through the door. Of course it was, Stephen. Every morning! He had become the only thing worse than the sun. He knew ignoring him wouldn't solve the problem. Stephen was not one to give up easily. "Im not here. Check back later!"He grumbled back. You'd think that would get the point across. It only encouraged Stephen to walk right in. He stood by the bed and waited with his arms crossed. "Come on , Evan!"He pleaded, "Have you forgotten what today is? We get to investigate that old house on Turner St. Im so excited I couldn't stay asleep! Let's go!" Evan gave a resigned sigh. Once Stephen was bitten by the bug of excitement, it was impossible to slow him down. He did have a valid point, though. People from all over the country had tried to get permission to investigate the Turner Street House. It was said to be unoccupied because of unexplained happenings that former owners had reported. The current owner, Miss Watson, wasn't interested in all of the attention. She had denied access to everyone. That is until she heard of two local boys who looked into such things. She had her own questions that needed answering, so she had expressed her desire to keep it in the community. Stephen and Evan had gotten a bit of a reputation from their exploits. Their social media was filled with videos of hauntings they have tried to explain. The bigger groups didn't seem to take them seriously and considered then a small time operation. "This is our chance, Evan!! Im tired of not being taken seriously! We will have a chance to give our viewers an exclusive! I can't even sit still. Come on, Evan!!!" And with that, he pulled the covers off the bed. As they landed on the floor beside the bed, Stephen realized rather quickly that Evan slept in the nude. There's no color palette in all of Home Depot to show all the different shades of red that crossed Stephen's face. Evan, on the other hand, was pale as a ghost. Mortified by this accidental peep show "Omg. Evan. Im so sorry. I didn't know you were. Well. You know. Omg. I'll be outside." Stephen hurried out and closed the door. He was still unable to form words. He felt so embarrassed. Probably more from Stephen's reaction. He'd changed in front of plenty of people before. Locker rooms weren't known for privacy. It would wear off. He was just surprised. I mean. Who does that s**t? Finally, he rolled out of bed and got dressed. They'd have to get an early start to get all of their equipment in position. It really was exciting. He knew that this night would unlike any other.
