It had taken them about three hours to get everything in place. Evan and Stephen joked about how long it took them the first time they'd done this. With a few hours until dark, they decided to go eat together. There was a local restaurant, Paul's, that everyone in town would frequent.
"Aren't you gonna eat, Evan?" Val seemed overly concerned about his loss of appetite.
"No. This will do. I don't like to have a full stomach before I go on a hunt. You never know when you're gonna need to Scooby Doo your ass out of there."
Oh my God, man!" Stephen couldn't hold back. "You're way too concerned about this. We are checking out an old house not competing in American Ninja Warrior! I'm betting we get some substantial readings or at least see some apparition from the past. If there's anything we should run from, I'm sure we'd have heard by now. I can't wait to get in there!"
"I know, Stephen, I'm just being wary. Something about Miss Watson's warning struck a chord with me. I had never heard about the caretaker. Maybe they didn't want to start a panic, but that's kind of a big thing to keep hidden in a town this size."
"Ok. You're killing my buzz man. We need to be pumped! We've been working on this for two years. Even the Greenville Paranormal Society will have to accept us if we do this right! I need that sense of excitement, and you need to help!! What do you think, Val?"
Val had remained quiet for a while. She looked to be on another planet.
"Val?"
"Oh. Yeah. Hey. Sorry. I've had a lot of my mind today. Don't look at me like that, Stephen! I'm very excited. I'm also not against the idea of caution. Let's make tonight count!'
"See, man? Val gets it! Let's do this right!"
Evan laughed at it all, "Ok. Ok. I'm sorry. I'm gonna get in on the excitement. Tonight will finally be our night!"
With that, they finished their food, waved at Paul, and started towards the main event. They had about an hour until dark when they arrived back. No one knew exactly how old the house was. It was two stories and looked like an old English manor house. It very well could've been. Some say it was there before the town. It opened into the same cliched main hallway with stairs going in Terri directions to reach the upper level. At this point, they thought it they had walked into Hill House when doing their set-up. Rooms were to either side. One was the parlor and the other the library. The kitchen was in the back next to some sort of run-down greenhouse.
