The wolf faced the giant python, its silver fur bristling as sharp claws dug deep into the earth. Its hind legs tensed, the entire body drawn taut like a fully strung silver bow, completely shielding me from the serpent. What astonished me was that the python's prey was me, not the wolf—yet it reacted with even greater fury than if it were the one under attack. A deep growl rumbled from its throat before its hind legs suddenly propelled it forward, launching it like a silver bolt of lightning straight at the python. But just before it leaped, I swear I saw it glance at me—just the quickest flick of its head. At the same time, its bushy tail swept out gently, pushing me backward more than two meters.
