There was something oddly intimate about waking up next to Joseph in the morning. Falling asleep in his arms only to wake up breathing his sent  was both poignant and satisfying. What a pity I didn’t realize any of this until he decided that now because Mary was no longer a threat, he didn’t need to guard me.  This meant that he was no longer coming to my room at night. He had however instructed his servants to stand guard at my door at all times. Sometimes, I would dream that he came into my room in the late hours, while I was completely knocked out, his arms reaching to pull me into him. However, come morning, I would wake up utterly alone.
