‎Trapped inside the body of a broken, poor, weak orphan, Samara questioned her rebirth to be nothing more than a ploy by the Moon goddess to mock her for cheaply losing her first life in the cold hands of those she'd loved.

‎Her second life means revenge. But what happens if she loses her memory to an accident? Does she get revenge or watch everything crumble into oblivion in a second life spoiled under the lens of a powerful Alpha?

CHAPTER ONE: THE DEATH OF DESDEMONA
Axel POV My claws pressed deep, tearing into his bloated neck as I had him against the balcony wall. His legs and arms dangled in the air as he tried to catch his breath. Aliciana, my betrothed, was on her knees begging and weeping beside a dead body. Her nose and eyes were a total mess, and that was why I stopped looking at her because Marko, my wolf, wanted Alpha Maxwell’s blood for what had happened. This was supposed to be my wedding to Aliciana and a truce between our packs, not a fight. Maxwell gasped. “Even if you kill me, it still won’t change anything. My death would mean declaring war between our packs.” “The second you invoked the Law of Surprise and claimed Aliciana that was when you declared war. The minute you sent your hounds after my brother that was when you started a war. Now tell me why I shouldn’t snap your neck and disembowel your head from your body. Uhh, tell me, uhh.” I almost snapped his neck. ”You’re going to kill him,” Aliciana begged, and I loosened my grip on his neck. “It… it was… It was your brother, Calen… he… killed her. I know you don’t know the girl, but she was only twenty years old. She was Aliciana’s sister and heiress of the House of Nolan, the daughter of the former Alpha… And she was my mate. I was never going to marry outside the Nolans…,” Maxwell explained. “You stole Aliciana and destroyed the truce.” I glanced at the girl in the pool of her own blood from a dagger roughly plunged into her heart by a hand that must have had hatred for her. Her eyes weren't even shut, and neither was her mouth, with mucus reaching the concrete floor of the balcony. It was as if death came upon her like a shock. Her face and skin were pale. ‎ I still had Maxwell in the air. “Calen… caused everything. If he hadn’t killed my darling Desdemona, we wouldn’t be doing this; rather, we’d be celebrating your wedding to Aliciana and doing a toast to the truce. The Law of Surprise was the only way I could fulfill my dream of marrying from the House of Nolan, so I did what I had to do.” “You lying prick,” I scolded him. “She accepted the Law of Surprise willingly, and we consummated our union before your arrival.” “How did it happen?” I let go of Maxwell’s neck, and he fell down beside the lifeless body of Desdemona on the floor. ‎‎“We were getting started with your wedding while awaiting your arrival as you instructed. It was all fun. Calen, your brother must have had excessive ale, or perhaps he pretended to be drunk,” Alpha Maxwell said, holding his neck and constantly forcing out spittle. ‎‎ “Go on.” I watched his eyes turn towards Aliciana, who had stopped crying. ‎‎ “I got to know from Aliciana that Calen and Desdemona have been seeing each other. But when Desdemona grew tired and threatened to expose it to everyone, he became furious and killed her, fearing it would result in great consequences if anyone found out” He paused and took another look at Aliciana. ‎ “You think Calen did this?” I asked, pointing to the lifeless body of Desdemona. ‎‎ “We saw him commit the act,” Aliciana said, folding her hands beneath her dress. ‎‎“He escaped the castle. Alpha Axel, your brother killed my mate. And for that reason, I took your betrothed, Aliciana, in her stead by claiming the Law of Surprise as recompense for what your brother had taken from me.” Alpha Maxwell explained, showing no sign of remorse. ‎ ‎“Justice shall be completely served once we have him in custody.” Tears trickled down Aliciana's eyes, and she turned towards Maxwell and rested her head on his chest. ‎ ‎“Calen didn’t do this. “He has his own family; he wouldn't stoop so low as to get under your mate's pants or talk more of killing her,” I said in rage with my hands gesturing all along. ‎ ‎“Calen can be so many things, but he’s not a killer or philanderer. This act was committed by someone else, not him.” ‎ ‎“If I hadn't seen what happened, I wouldn't have believed it myself. But we all saw the moment he thrust the dagger through her heart,” Maxwell replied, finally finding his boldness as he ran his hands on Aliciana's. ‎ ‎“My sister confided in me almost a month ago now that she was carrying his baby, and he demanded she abort it to avoid suspicion since Maxwell has never touched her,” Aliciana continued sobbing while she rested her head on Maxwell’s chest. ‎ ‎“Who confirmed this information?” I asked, tilting my head up. ‎ ‎ “Desdemona had proof.” Aliciana turned to one of their maids. “Go to the heiress's room and check the mini-shelf beside her bed. You'll find a box filled with books and sheets of paper. You're looking for a sheet with Rivalloo Community Clinic as the heading. Bring it.” ‎ ‎“Okay, Ma.” The maid dashed out. ‎‎ “Maxwell, nothing should happen to my brother without my approval,” I threatened. ‎ ‎“Alpha Axel, don't obstruct justice,” said Aliciana. ‎ ‎“I took a few steps closer to Maxwell. “You said the girl was your mate.” ‎ ‎“Yes, she was,” Maxwell acknowledged with a sneer. ‎ ‎“How have you gotten over her like that within 4 hours?” ‎ ‎“Alphas don't cry,” Maxwell replied with a sneer, and immediately I turned to Aliciana. ‎ ‎“Aliciana, you'd at least waited for me to come.” ‎ ‎“I did actually. But I didn't know when grief made me accept his offer.” She sighed. ‎ ‎“You wish,” I chuckled. ‎ ‎ “On a serious note, I never wanted to be with you,” Aliciana replied, holding Maxwell's hand tight, her heart beating faster as I stood towering over them. ‎ ‎ “Very well then, but you two must understand that I won't go back on my words. Nothing happens to Calen.” My breath swept their countenance, and they looked at each other before the maid returned with a paper. ‎‎ “Here, give it.” Aliciana quickly grabbed the paper from the maid with her fidgeting hands. It fell on the floor, and quickly she picked it up and handed it over to me. ‎ ‎“And if you still wish to unleash chaos, then know that you’ve got only your pack at your back while we get support from every other pack.” Maxwell said, wrapping his hand round Aliciana's waist. ‎ “Impossible!” I squeezed and tossed the paper away. ‎ ‎“We won't stop until he pays for his crime,” Aliciana insisted. ‎ ‎“This can't be,” I roared and stormed out of the room. ‎ ‎Dimly I heard Maxwell telling the guards to remove Desdemona's body from the scene as I went straight to my cybertruck and zoomed off from the Shadowwing's Pack territory, thinking about what I must do now. Not only did the truce not work, but also my only brother has gone missing and been charged with murder.
