POV- 1st person (Spade)
Setting- In the castle/Ben's house
-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-
Night time in the castle is hard for me. It feels so tense at night. I normally cry myself to sleep. But when I don't I fall asleep easily. But I don't stay asleep. Im a light sleeper. Most of the royal's are taught to be this way in case an assassin comes.
Tonight I chose to not sleep. Or at least not for long. Some nights if I chose not to sleep, I either sit on my bed and write in my diary or I just lay on my bed alone with my thought's. It may sound harsh to chose not to sleep. But I would object. Sometimes I feel that I don't have time to sleep, or I don't have to.
Tonight I decided to do something slightly different from what I usually do when I choose not to sleep. I got on my knees and reached under my bed. When I felt the rough leather of a notebook I pulled it out.
This notebook is not my diary. Its a planner. And Im not jotting down my thought's tonight. Tonight I plan to write down steps to escape.
That's right. I plan to escape this place. How I don't know yet. And what I would do afterwards I don't know either. But I have had the thought in my mind for a while.
I decide I need to tell Ben. He is my closest friend after all. And he could help me execute the plan. And maybe escape with me... I close the notebook and carry it with me as I walk to the door.
The benefit of my father sleeping in another part of the castle is that I get to rome around freely. As long as I don't get caught by the guards of course.
What? You didn't think there were guards? Well there is. Luckily, I know their route's. Like the back of my hand. They usually just guard the bottom floor and rarely come up stairs.
You know what the benefit for being locked up in a castle 24/7 is? It's that I figured out a bunch of secrets about this place. There are a few secret passages around the place that only me and Ben know about.
I crept out of my room making sure to keep my eyes on the bottom floor and stairs. There were only a few down there. They don't take their jobs seriously. I should be happy about that, but honestly it disgusts me.
I tip-toe out of my room and into the hallway. One of the secret passages is in the middle of the hallway. So I should be fine.
I get to the middle of the hallway. There is a big yellow flag covering the entrance. I move it out of the way and push on the wall. The wall opened and I entered.
I pushed the wall close once I was inside. The hallway was lit up dimly by torches.
"God I hate the dark." I thought.
Even so I start following the tunnel. The tunnel route basically goes around my mothers room and down the stairs to the outside. Convenient right?
I drag my hand along the wall with my notebook in the other. Even though I can see, it is still fairly dark. And cold...
Once I get to the outside I am hit with a cold wind. It is starting to turn into spring but still. I shiver as I walk down the many steps to get into the village. Despite what you might think, Ben does not live in the castle. My father doesn't let anyone that I am close with live inside the castle.
Once I reach the village, I get shivers down my spine. Partly because it's cold, and because it is eerily quiet. The only things that I am afraid of are The dark, and silence.
I walk the paths until I reach Bens house. Since he gets paid well he lives in a slightly bigger house them everyone else. I knock on his door.
"Hang on!" I hear a tired voice from inside say.
I hear him walking down the steps and towards the door. He opens it, his hair is even messier then usual and he is wearing a stripped shirt with shorts.
He rubs his eyes groggily. "Spade? Is that you?" He says wearily.
"Yeah... Sorry but I need to talk to you."
He stepped aside to let me walk in. He closed the door behind him.
"I can make you some tea if you want?"
My eyes lit up. His tea is the best in my opinion.
"Yes please!" I said excitedly while sitting down on one of his couches.
He chuckled at my goofiness. "Ok then." He said.
When he finished, he walked over with a cup and sat down on the opposite couch.
"So what did you want to talk about?" He asked.
I twiddled my thumbs looking down.
"First I want to say sorry for waking you up... I should ha-"
"Stop." He said with a stern tone. "Whatever it is that you need to talk about is bound to be worth my time. Now tell me." He demanded. Though his tone was still soft.
"Hmm". I thought for a moment trying to string words into sentences. And trust me. That is not my strong suit.
Instead of talking, I decided to show him. I grabbed my notebook that I had set down upon walking in and handed it to him.
He took it and flipped through the notebook. I had wrote down the steps in detail and drew pictures as well for a visual.

Step 1- Go into the kitchen and gather food. I will need it to survive long enough if I don't find a village in time.
Step 2- Grab weapons. I have a weapon of my own but more won't hurt.
Step 3- Tell mother. I want her to know that I am leaving. Even if she refuses to join me.
Step 4- Tell Ben. Im hoping that he will join me. But if he won't then I want to let him know I will be gone.
Step 5- Wait until nightfall. It's to risky to execute the plan during the day. Nightfall is the best option.
Step 6- Grab rope and escape through window. If I anchor the rope then we will be able to escape through my bedroom window.
Step 7- Escape?
Step 8- Live

"Why no context for 7 and 8?" Ben asked.
"Because I don't know what I need to do and how hard it will be. I haven't even been outside the wall. I don't know if there is going to be villages outside of our kingdom. That's why I need your help". I said hopeful that he would accept.
Ben thought for a moment. "Alright then. I'll help you. Under one condition".
"What's that"? I ask.
"Im coming with you".
