"And the chemical formula for this is.." I murmured, flipping through my textbook. The test is almost starting and everyone's basically just running around.
Some of us, like me example, actually take exams very seriously.
"Hey," Jenna called out, sitting beside me. "Whatcha got there?"
"Chemistry." I replied, my eyes not leaving the book.
"You don't even have to revise, oh my gosh, Arielle! You're always the top in class and you have memorized every ounce of the periodic table!" Jenna exclaimed, throwing her hands in the air.
"Not all of them.." I muttered, shrugging.
"How many, exactly?"
"118," I replied.
"How many elements are there?" She asked again, raising an eyebrow.
I pursed my lips, then looked at her.
"118."
Jenna stared at me blankly, then took a deep breath.
"I'm so done with you." She muttered, making me laugh.
"Class, settle. The test will begin shortly. Now let's first recap on.."
Scott slumped down behind me. He picked his jacket up, before hugging it.
"It's so nice to be behind. Just tell me when she stops talking," Scott whispered, closing both his eyes.
"Scott! I'll be the one in trouble. Hey! Wake up!" I whispered, hitting his arm with my book.
"Really? The only trouble you're gonna get is just scolding from the teacher. No biggie." Scott replied, his voice getting softer and softer by the minute.
"Scott!" I protested, hitting him harder. "That's the point. I don't want my reputation to be blown!"
"You talk like you've got a good one," he replied in an annoyed tone, his eyes still closed. "Come on, Arielle. Do something fun once in a while. You just.. Gotta chill sometimes, you know?"
"You know, there's this thing called 'wanting to have a good future'"
"And? Have you thought of the future?" Scott asked, opening both his eyes.
"Yea. I don't want to end up like.. I mean, I want to be a doctor," I lied. Well, a doctor's a good job, but in this case..
What I wanted to say was 'I don't want to end up like my parents'. My parents.. What am I suppose to do with them?
"You know what's the best thing about sitting behind?" Scott asked, smirking.
I raised an eyebrow, my instincts telling me that he's not gonna do anything good.
“If I burn the school down now with my lighter, no one will know it’s me!” he grinned
I stared at him and shake my head. “How does that even work?”
"I don't know." He squints his eyes. He turned to me then gave me the cheekiest smile I've ever seen. "Wanna try?"
He took out out what looked like a blue lighter from his bag. My eyes instantly widened and I quickly smacked his arm. "Scott! No!"
"Oh, am I supposed to wag my tail and roll over now?" He asked in annoyance. "I don't know if you notice, but I'm a human. HUMAN. Not a dog. Or a cat. Or a horse. Or a penguin. Or-"
"Yeah. I get it." I cut him off. "Now... can you put the lighter away? I don't trust you with it."
He shrugged. "You love me," Scott smirked, his arm leaning against the table.
"Scott." I started, but the teacher was already handing out papers.
"You may begin now," the teacher announced as all of us flipped the paper.
I grinned. I knew all of the answers. They were all so easy.
The first few questions I was able to answer them easily. Then my mind started to wander off little by little.
This morning. No, Arielle. Focus on the test. But this morning. I had to sit through breakfast with my mom and dad not talking at all.
As she was cutting the pancakes, she pulled her long sleeves more and I realized that she was cutting something else.
"Fifteen more minutes," the teacher announced, bringing me back to reality.
Three more questions to go. Come on, Arielle. You can do this. Don't get distracted.
###
The exam was finally over. Really, everyone's not taking it seriously. Well, I guessed my parents indirectly raised me right. Because my parents were always fighting, I'm always thinking that I don't want to end up like them. Not ever.
"Hey," Scott called me out, making me face him. "Thanks for the answers."
I tilted my head, before getting it.
"You cheated?!" I gaped, slamming the table.
"You should've covered your answers," Scott said, shrugging. He smirked before getting out of class.
I really gotta talk to him. Yes, it is my job as the student council.
It took a while to find him, a little running here and some questions there. I finally spotted him leaning on the back gate.
"Scott!" I shouted, making him look up from his phone.
"Yo," He greeted.
"Don't 'yo' me! I need to talk to you." I said, trying to sound as strict as I can.
"Can I 'hey' you though?"
"Enough! You know that you're suppose to be early for school and for god's sake don't cheat." I ordered, glaring at him.
Scott gave me a blank look at first, before he burst out laughing.
"How about no. Did you really think I'd bother to even listen to any of your commands?" Scott asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, if you don't follow any of this I'll-"
"You'll what?" Scott challenged me. “Princess, I don’t care alright. Take me to detention. Suspend me. Heck, you could expel me and I would thank you.”
"Scott." I warned him, before a screeching voice was heard.
"Scott! Where are you?"
"s**t," Scott cursed, pulling himself away.
Footsteps were heard. I recognized who that voice is.
I turned around, her very light blonde hair swaying behind as she ran. Her electric blue eyes twinkled at the sight of Scott. Her perfectly light pink lips grinned, showing her white pearls.
At the sight of Scott and I alone, Cindy's grin turned to a frown.
"What's the student council doing here?" She asked Scott, making a face at me. "Ew, what kind of fashion sense do you have?"
I opened my mouth to argue, but a hand pulled my chin, and in that one second I wasn't conscious of myself, my lips were touching soft, tender lips.
Scott's eyes were closed, but I left mine open. Why, would you look at that. Scott has a small scratch on his forehead. I could hear Cindy gasp, but I honestly don't care. I have to admit, for a first kiss I'm actually enjoying this.
Wait, what am I doing? The teachers will sue me if they saw this. I will sue myself. But Scott's smell. Now that I'm closer to him than ever, he smells like apples on a rainbow. I don't know how to describe it, but it's getting me high.
His head tilted, and I realized what was happening.
I finally got to my nerves and pulled away.
"What was that?" Cindy and I asked at the same time. I could feel Cindy glaring at me. What a good student council I am.
"That..." Scott started, wiping his lips, "Is called a 'kiss'."
"Yes, we all flippin' know it's a kiss! Why'd you do that for?" I practically shrieked at him.
"To show her-" Scott pointed at Cindy. "That I'm free to do anything I like since our break up."
Cindy squinted her eyes, then walked over to Scott and grabbed his collar.
"I know you want me. You know we're always being together at the very end." Cindy hissed, grabbing Scott's collar tighter.
"Who knows? Maybe I want something new? Like a top student who's always been the teacher's pet, who coincidentally is the student counsellor." Scott replied, tilting his head.
Cindy let go of Scott, then glared at me. She groaned in frustration before storming off.
"You just made me an enemy," I pointed out.
"Well, you finally can get rid of that good girl image, right? You can finally brag that we kissed," Scott replied, shrugging.
Family, student council, Scott and now Cindy.
My life's been great so far. How's yours?
