10 The weeks crept by for Kate and Don, never under the same roof for more than a couple of days strung together. Don immersed himself in the wine business and Kate was dragging her feet hiring an assistant. Luke had turned into an asset for Mom. She had several long conversations with Mom regarding the growing tension between her and Don. But there was nothing that could be done. It was up to them to keep the lines of communication open. Kate walked into her house and silence enveloped her. She ached for Don. She switched on the lights to push back the lengthening shadows.
