8 When Cari got to the shop she found Kate had the cooling rack overflowing. “Good morning. You must have slept well,” she said as she firmly closed the back door. “Hi, Mom. You’re here early.” Kate glanced up as she dropped a spoonful of batter on a cookie sheet. “I wanted to check the machine and talk to you about a couple of questions I have for our meeting today with Lucas.” Cari tied on her apron and went about her morning routine.
