Little Alice.

- I was born in Crescent Moon Pack a long time ago. My mother came there while still pregnant. I have never met my father, as the rouges killed him. He was a human, so he had no chance against them. My parents were mates and loved each other as much as possible. My mother was telling me stories about him, how they met, and what their life looked like. They lived near the small village, she was a great healer, and he was a hunter. They had a simple life, but it was enough for them. They had everything because they had each other. My mother told me once that my father became even happier when he discovered she was expecting a baby. It was like all their dreams finally came true. - Alice stopped momentarily, trying to remember details from the past. - That is all I have left after my father. - She said and pulled out a simple necklace with a pendant made from an amber stone. - My mother found it one day, and she gave it to my dad, and he made this pendant, promising one day it would belong to his child. So it is. - Unfortunately, during one of his hunts, he was hurt by rouges. Just a lousy coincidence. He was in the wrong place at an awful time. When my mother found him, he lost too much blood, and it was too late for healing. So she spent his last minutes with him in the woods and then used magic to burn his body. - How she found him? - Amelia couldn't be quiet any longer. - Tracking spell. Mate bond, all those combined.- Alice shook her head. - She told me once that when he died, her heart broke, and she felt like half of her soul was also burnt. Nothing can be compared to losing your mate. I think she only survived because of me. I was my father's child, so I held some part of him. - She burned the house, everything that was inside took some money, and left. - Why?? - Now Sebastian was shocked. - My mother couldn't stay in a place that reminded her of her mate if he was not there anymore. She was a witch, so like all of us, she felt everything more vital, so the pain was also way more significant. That is why I am not waiting for my mate. I hope we will never meet because I don't want to go through something like my mum. - Alice sipped her tea and started talking again. - Three days later, she arrived at Crescent Moon Pack. She asked for a place to live in exchange for her healing abilities. Alpha Maksymilian was not very welcoming at the beginning. Still, his Luna told him that every good healer counts, especially when a lot of rouges are coming closer to the borders, and many warriors are coming back wounded, and it takes days before they can heal themselves. So he agreed to give her a chance, which my mother gratefully accepted. She has got a little house which we shared after my birth. She started as a help in the pack hospital, and quickly it became clear that she was much more than that. I was born a few months later, and I must say I was raised in a hospital. My mother did not want to leave her patients, so it was like a second home to me. Over time, it was apparent that I had the same talents and abilities as her, so she started to train me, and my skills improved. - Skills? - Amelia interrupted again. - Yes, my powers if you like it more. - Alice smiled softly. - I can heal with just my magical energy. - So why are you not doing that? I have never seen you do that. Only potions and creams. And herbs. - Sebastian said. - Because it is risky, and it takes a lot of training to master it. We do it when it is necessary. I am doing good with my medicaments. - Have you ever tried? - Sebastian asked her. - Once. I found a bird attacked by a cat. I was maybe ten at the time. So I decided to save him. - It didn't end well. - How so? - Amelia felt it is going to be interesting. - My mother went mad on that day. And I mean really mad. I am pretty sure the whole pack heard her. - I was shaking, with sweat covering my forehead. I used too much of my energy. I was just a stupid child then. - What's a big deal? -Sebastian couldn't understand. - I could die, boy. - Everything has a price. I can heal using my living energy. With time we learn how to use it without putting ourselves in danger. We also learn how to keep it as our biggest secret. Many people would be ready to do anything to use it. To get their health back, they would quickly force us to use every last drop of our energy. - Now it makes a lot more sense.- Sebastian mumbled under his nose. - So you see, there was a reason why my mother lost all her patience with me that day. She gave a speech about my life. I never did it again. I spent years improving my knowledge about herbs, making potions, and treating patients, so now I can bring anyone from the edge to his best shape without using my powers. Sometimes I still can feel how it was when my energy was leaving my body. I am not in a hurry to feel it again. - Alice giggled slightly. Sebastian and Amelia looked at each other, unsure what to think. - I saw my mother using those powers only one time. It was when Beta female got ill. At the time, we lived in the pack for almost thirty-five years. - Amelia, please close your mouth. You may catch flies. - Alice said, seeing how she was trying to process everything. - I am a hundred and twenty years old. - Now Amelia's face was like one big question mark. - Perks of being a witch, honey. - Are we aging very slowly? - Really? No kidding! - Amelia was having difficulty looking at the woman who looked like she was in her late twenties. She could be her grandmother! - Maybe, I will go back to my story. We were both at the day when Beta brought his mate. He looked so heartbroken. He did not want to leave her side, so finally, Alpha had to come and take him so we could take care of her. I remember that day like it was yesterday. She was lying on the bed, and my mother was trying to figure out what was happening. Beta female, sorry, I don't remember her name, Sara, no, it was Sophie. Yes, that was her name. She was a lovely young woman, always helping others. They were some friends with my mother. They had this connection. That is why my mother was so dedicated to helping her. Sophie spent a few weeks in the hospital, and through all that time, my mother was trying to figure out what was wrong because this woman was always a strong and healthy she-wolf, and now she was weak; her healing was prolonged. We tried all the potions my mother could get, but nothing worked for a short period. My mother was devastated, she was using all her knowledge, and it was all for nothing. Life was leaving Sophie. She was getting weaker and weaker, and even Beta couldn't come into contact with her wolf, which was a terrible sign. When the situation was already tragic, my mother decided to use her powers. That was her last chance. After that, she went to the Luna to talk to her. When she came back, she told me the truth. Sophie was poisoned. Someone was adding a small amount of poison probably to her food and drinks to make her weaker. That is why my mother couldn't find a reason for her sickness. The poisoning was taking place for a longer time. Who wanted to kill someone as good as Sophie.? -Mother returned to the hospital to find the young woman dead. She used her powers last time and noticed more poison than before. Someone helped Beta female to die. -Next day, we were called to the Alpha. There was Beta, angry, accusing my mother of killing his mate. He was shouting that she did nothing to save her. So my mother said what she had discovered. Everyone was shocked. Except for Beta. He became pale but still accused my mother. He said she did it to weaken the pack. They took my mother to the cell until everything was cleared. Beta was demanding her life for his mate's life. Unfortunately, he was a best friend to the Alpha and had a strong influence on him. My mother was in the cell for six days while I was under arrest at our house. After that time, Alpha decided to banish her from the pack instead of killing her. It was because of her long service and so many people came to state her innocence. The night before our leave, Luna came to our house. She told us she suspects Beta of killing his mate as she discovered he found a mistress. My mum said he was the only person visiting her, with food and drinks. We left before dawn. - When I woke up, my mother was gone. There was a letter and my necklace. She wrote that we must split until all this drama is forgotten. - So how do you know that your mother is fine? And alive? - Amelia tried to hide her tears. - My necklace. There is a spell on it. As long it is warm , I know everything is fine. - Alice looked at the pendant. - So you lived here all by yourself , for so many years? - Amelia tried to imagine how it is to be alone for so many years. - Until the day I found a little boy in the woods. - Alice smiled softly, looking at Sebastian. - He changed my life.
