ROSE? ROSETTE?
Love, it's funny how it works, you don't get to choose who you want to love. It just happens automatically.
The heart doesn't ask for permission, it just loves. You also don't get to keep everyone you love forever. And that's the bitter truth about love.
I know it, I couldn't. The one I love wholeheartedly was the one person I couldn't keep in my life.
It had been nine days, nine days since I met him. Just nine days, but miraculously they felt like nine years. In days, are filled with exuberance and tranquility.
For once in my life, I felt that I had a different reason to live. I didn't just want to live for my Papa and Felix but for me also, for once, I decided to be genuinely happy.
My entire life I spent it surrounded by men wearing black and keeping stern faces never smiling, I don't think they'd ever smile to save their lives. I blame them for my attitude.
And Dad didn't make things nicer when he appointed a personal guard for me. I was beyond aggravated knowing that the appointed guard was going to be a parasite and a pain in my ass, worst of all, he was going to cling around me all day long.
But little did I know that they'd be a humungous demarcation between him and others.
He was friendly and fun to talk to and listen to. Precisely what I needed from a bodyguard. At first sight, he made me feel foreign things. It was through him that I felt the butterflies in your stomach thing.
After three days of knowing him, we kissed. Taking our relationship to another level.
Wait, scratch that.
I don't know whether it was a relationship or just a fling, but I do know he'd sneak in my room, and we'd make out and have fun, we did everything couples did, we just never said the three magical words to each other.
Whatever it was that we had, it was fun. He liked my brother, so all was well, and I was head over heels in love with him. But I couldn't say that to him, it would be awkward if it came from me first.
I don't know if he loved me and I guess I'll never know, but I know that from the first day he kissed me under the moon and stars I knew it down to my pitch-black slippers that my heart was his.
It's a pity I can't say the feeling was mutual because I don't know how he felt, but I wanted to make this thing worthwhile, so I focused on that.
I was leaving the following day, but I kept that to myself, so I persuaded him to come with me to an underground club and have fun.
“Come on, it'll be fun. I promise this will be an unforgettable night ever,” I said, pulling him towards the building
“I just don't want to be around people. I just want you,” he said.
“William! Romance? Even now? We're in public” I giggled.
“Rose, I really like hanging around with you and who knows, I might stop being your personal bodyguard in a few days, so I want to spend as much time I can with you” I sighed.
“Okay I just want to see someone here, I'll say hello then we'll leave. Is that okay?” He nodded,
“Whatever the queen wants then the queen gets, but isn't the queen supposed to submit to the king?” I laughed,
“So says the king” I said, bowing.
But I wanted him to meet someone, so I wasn't falling for his tricks.
“Just two hours then I'm all yours,” I said making puppy eyes
“Just two hours,” he said, and I smiled, just then someone cleared his throat.
I turned
“Gabriel! How is it hanging? You're huge now, Muscles and all. What are you eating?” I asked, belated.
“Um cool Rosette” he replied calmly
“Oh I don't need you today,” I said, shoving him away, but Brenton, my friend's handyman, didn't seem much convinced as he just stood there looking at us.
Until a certain someone snaked his hands around my waist and pulled me closer to him. Damn what his hands were doing to me
“See nothing to be worried about,” I said smiling. He turned and left, but I could see he didn't want to.
“Rosette?” Liam said, raising his eyebrow. Oh, how I wish you knew how freakishly cute you look that.
“ That's what he calls me, he always guards me when I come here” I pulled him to a dark hallway
“But you said you were a Rose” he asks looking befuddled.
“No. I said I'm a flower. And you said a rose maybe, and I said your guess was right. I never said my name was Rose," I stuck my tongue out.
“Okay then Rosetta” I smile. People from the countryside used to call me that, and it sounded cool as ever. Rosetta!
“I don't think you know where we're going, the entrance is that way…”
“I know where the entrance is, we're not going wild, yet there's someone I want you to meet before we dance an…” Before I could finish, I felt myself spinning
“Pumpkiiiiiiin” okay now I know who's spinning me,
It was Paxton, my male bestie. We've been friends since childhood, and he practically turned to being my brother and guardian angel. But I last saw him two years ago.
“Put me down,” I said giggling, and he did as he was told and then pulled in for a long awkward hug
“Damn let go of me you'll choke me to death,” I said, pulling away from the hug.
“I missed you a lot, it's been two years, did you miss me too?” He said, sticking his tongue out. I laughed, he still hasn't changed much.
“Shhh shut up, you're asking me as if there's anything to miss about you,” I said
He put his hands on his chest pretending to be hurt by what I just said
“Alright, I want you to meet…” I turned to Liam, who was giving me deadly glares, but I just ignored him and walked toward him.
Anger was written all over his face.
