Chapter 5: Everything I'm Against

Nightfall came about. Companying Hendrix, the two of us walked outside through the campus grounds to reach Al's dorm. “Tonight is the night, Dawn. Tonight, is the night that I get a kiss from Lisa,” Hendrix spoke with energy. “I believe you pal,” I agreed, cheering him on. “I know you can do it. You're gonna finally put the moves on her and win her over. Show her that you deserve her as much as the next guy does. Remember, confidence and perseverance are what wins girls over.” Nodding in hyper burst, Hendrix added, “Got ya.” Catching my eye in a distance, I spotted two figures walking as well. Vampires to be specific. They were on the vamps only side of campus. Stopping in my tracks, Hendrix stopped with me. My eyes never left the sight of the two as they strolled without a care in the world. “Go to the party Hendrix, I’ll catch up with you.” “What?” Hendrix said back. “I said I’ll catch up with you. I have something to do,” I repeated. Placing both his hands on my shoulders, Hendrix stood in front of me, blocking my sight of the vampires. “Are you nuts? Are you seriously thinking about doing what I think you're gonna do?” “I have to Hendrix. The academy has yet to find any leads on the disappearance of my mother. Maybe those bloodsuckers would know.” “Dawn, do you really want to-” “I'll be okay Hendrix,” I cut him off. “Trust me, it won't take long. I'll catch up with you.” Hendrix paused for a moment, looking me in my face before he nodded, walking away afterwards. He looked back twice, before he didn't look back anymore. As usual, I kept my dagger strapped to my hip, tucked underneath my belt on the side. Approaching the vamps with a fast walk as I looked around to make sure there weren't any hunters on watch, I crossed the campus boundaries of the human domain, entering the vampire domain. The vampires knew this as well, picking up on my scent as they turned around, as soon as I was on their premises. Using their extremely fast speed, the two vamps rushed over to me, meeting me the second my feet crossed over from the human dorms. “What is a human doing over here? Were you not taught the school's rules?” One of the vampires asked me. The vampires kept a short distance in between us, giving me enough room to pull out my knife if need be. This was my first confrontation with a vampire since the vampire I was introduced to in the office. Like all vampires, they looked like humans. Young humans with perfect skin. “I've been here for about three months,” I answered with very little fear in my voice. My heart accelerated as I continued speaking, the much-needed adrenaline rush that crept around my body. “I've got questions about my mother, and you two are going to give me answers. She was a lady that was kidn*pped by your kind.” The vampire with the long hair stood back as the one with short hair stepped forward, giving me the signal I needed to reach for my dagger. “Are you wanting to start trouble, human?” He asked me. “Quinton, don't,” The long haired vamp warned his buddy. His pupils glowed red for a split second, as if he was trying to intimidate me. “Am I scaring you?” I taunted him. “Does a pathetic human’s presence strike fear in your non-beating heart?” The short haired vampire smirked, chuckling soon after. His chuckles stopped, but not before he was able to use his high speed to close the small gap between us and grab a hold of my throat. Afterwards, he launched me with very little effort, as if I was paper weight! I landed on my side, meters away from the two now. Though, I remained on vampire territory. Attempting to reach for my dagger, my intentions were interrupted as the vamp used his super speed to close the gap yet again, lifting me off the ground, tossing me even further than before, forcing me to roll a short distance once my body smacked onto the ground. Quickly getting used to the vampire abusing his high speed, I automatically jumped up and punched the air, thinking he would appear in front of me again. Sadly, he wasn't there. Touching my shoulder from behind with his finger, I immediately turned around, bringing a right punch with me. My fist soared through the air as he dodged the onslaught, merely stepping back and tilting his head back. He then countered my punch with a punch of his own. Unlike mine, his punch connected, punching me right in the side of my face, staggering me backwards for a moment. He then followed that punch with two more punches to the face that were back to back, followed by a fourth punch that knocked me to the ground, laying me down on my side. Kneeling down beside me as I spit a chunk of blood onto the ground that built up in my mouth, the short haired vamp looked down at me as if I was some sort of pet. He shook his head with this plain look on his face. “What a shame,” he told me in a calm tone. “Quinton, that's enough! You don't need another write-up!” The long haired vamp yelled at him from a distance. Turning his head towards his ally, Quinton yelled back, “One more write-up wouldn't hurt! I know I always say that but this time I’m serious!” Able to reach my dagger, I pulled it out in the nick of time as the vamp turned back in my direction. I swung the dagger in my left hand and connected! Giving off a human's reaction with a quick shout, Quinton stood up and gave me one good kick to the ribs, launching my body into a tree as I fell to the ground soon after. Using his high speed again, the short haired vamp backed off, placing distance between us yet again. Looking at the two from a distance, I could see Quinton holding his face. “Damn it,” the short haired vamp spoke. “That must be a hunter's dagger. My face wound won't heal fast. The s**t is burning.” “Imagine if that was your head,” The longer haired vampire told him. “He just picked up speed,” The short haired vampire replied. “Faster than a typical human. Beginner's luck. That blade should not have touched me.” My eyes could barely stay open as I grunted in pain. The struggle to stay conscious, eventually overtook me. My eyes slid shut.
