Three-Daring Fate with an Activation

Trisha POV First period was Physical Anatomy and Physiology. As per usual, our teacher was giving an extra 5 minutes for the tardy students to trickle in. I sat in a seat near the window at the middle edge of class. School bored me. It was too easy, rarely a challenge, and today was a review day. I had long since memorized the material for the test and wasn’t looking forward to class today. I propped my chin in my hand as I leaned against my arm and stared out the window at the field beyond. This school was located eerily close to a forest, and sometimes you could see the wildlife traversing the edge, sometimes wandering out into the open. Currently, I noticed a doe with her fawn traipsing in the undergrowth just within the shadows of the forest’s edge. I heard the teacher clear his throat and turned to look at him. He was talking to a young man who was obviously a new student. He was at least a good foot taller than I was, not that I was more than average height at 5’4”. He had shaggy brown hair that hung loosely around his face in a rather dashing manner. And his eyes were the deepest green I’d ever seen. I wondered if he was wearing contacts because I wasn’t sure that shade of green was natural. He was definitely confident, that much was obvious, but he listened respectfully as the teacher spoke to him. Just then, I noticed his eyes meet mine. My breath hitched and my cheeks pinked up slightly at being caught staring. But I had no interest in him. I yawned and composed myself, nonchalantly looking back out the window. But as I stared out the window I had the burning sensation of someone watching me intensely. I was used to stares, I constantly got them, but this was different. I let out a breath and tried my best to ignore it. It was probably just another pervert plotting how they would attempt to get into my pants. Just then, I was startled when a black pencil case with the gold initials of G.A. written on its surface slid across my desk and into my lap. I looked up to see the young man who had been talking to the teacher, gripping my desk as if he’d tripped slightly. “Oh sorry, miss. These desks are too cramped and I lost my footing just now. May I have my pencil case back?” he asked me, extending his hand for the case. My lips parted slightly at the sound of his voice. It was a deeper baritone than most other male students and made shivers course down my spine. Like a sexy melody that made my body sing. My mouth went dry and my heart fluttered. But what bothered me most is the pressure that built in my stomach. Never had a simple voice elicited such a response from me. I must be getting sick. It couldn’t be his voice, it just was coincidence. I swallowed and composed myself, grabbing the pencil case and handing it to him. As he took it from me, his fingers brushed mine and tingles coursed up them and into my arm like static shock. Did he drag his feet through the halls? My eyes flickered up to his. Those green eyes were so vibrant, and they seemed to trap me in them. “Thank you,” he murmured politely and I noticed the class staring. Why were they staring? Did they think I couldn’t be nice to the guy? I nodded and looked out the window again. I didn’t really want to socialize more with all these gazes on me. “The name’s Gavin, miss. Gavin Aurstone. What’s your name?” I turned my head to look at him again. Why was he persisting to pester me? Class was about to start. But, then again, the teacher was observing us just as intently as everyone else. I narrowed my eyes in suspicion. What was going on? Gavin had his hand held out to me in the offer of a handshake. I stared at his hand, then back up at him. I ignored his hand and replied, “Trisha. Nice to meet you. But class is about to start, you should sit down.” He frowned at me, then retracted his hand. But then he smiled again and shook his head as he passed. Only as he did, he touched my shoulder with his hand as if in apology, and I lurched out of my seat with a cry of pain. It felt like lightning jolted throughout my body and ignited it into flame. But as soon as the sensation was there it was gone and the class stared at me. My cheeks flushed in embarrassment. But Gavin raised his hands, “I apologize. These shoes are horrible. They generate static shock a lot. I apologize for getting you. It was an honest mistake.” Several students laughed as I glared at Gavin, contemplating if he was telling the truth or not. I slowly sat in my seat, grumbling, “Yeah well just keep your hands to yourself…” He smiled at me again. “Sorry Trisha.” Then he sat down in the seat behind me. I shivered as I tried to ignore the resonating tingling shocks that seemed to continue to pulse just beneath my skin. For some reason, my core clenched and moistened. I fidgeted in my seat at the uncomfortable sensation. Why was I suddenly turned on!? My morning had only just begun and already I wanted to retreat to my home and escape it all. Gavin POV The moment I entered the classroom, my wolf was suddenly going insane, prancing from foot to foot, wagging his tail, panting and howling. I tried to listen as the teacher caught me up on the agenda and current assignments as well as the expectations of the class. But it was impossible, especially when my wolf uttered one, unexpected word. ‘Mate.’ What? I blinked at my wolf’s word, asking for clarification in my mind. ‘Mate.’ He repeated. Come again? Who is? ‘The Human' Are you certain? ‘Yes!! She is our mate. Can’t you smell her!?’ I was shocked. She couldn’t be my mate. I was a Prince, destined for the throne. Granted, I did reject it. But more than that, I was astounded that my wolf, Eon, had come to the surface for the 3rd time today. He rarely did, he was rather introverted and only liked to make his presence known when he had to. But I could feel his excitement in my head, which was a first. That could only mean he was telling the truth. My eyes flickered to where she sat near the window only to find her gaze on me. She averted her eyes almost as if she was bored and stared out the window. Curious, I inhaled. A sudden enticing aroma entered my lungs. It was the most mouthwatering scent I’d ever inhaled. It was like sweet cotton candy mixed with the tang of exotic fruit and lilies, but the freshness of soft rain. It was intoxicating. And it was definitely coming from her. No one else smelled like that or ever enticed my senses so erotically before. I stared at her and I struggled to keep my composure. My heart raced and I felt the blood begin to pulse and stretch my length. It was true. She was my mate. Of all the beings in existence, I got the most stubborn and rebellious of them all? ‘See? Mate. We have finally found our mate!!!’ But she’s human. She’s inferior to us. ‘You’re a fool if you actually believed that!! You’re just defying me now with dishonesty. Go greet her or I will.’ You wouldn’t dare. ‘I would.’ Fine. I knew Eon was serious when he made that threat, seeing as he usually preferred to be dormant. However, this vastly complicated things. It changed everything, and suddenly all my plans were flushing down the drain. Excusing myself from the teacher, I walked deliberately down the Isle toward the empty seat behind her. I shrugged off my backpack and pulled out my pencil case. Just before reaching her desk, I pretended to catch my foot on one of the desks and let the case fly in her direction. It landed perfectly in her lap after skidding across her desk, causing her to startle. I smiled as she looked up at me. I noticed as I spoke to her that her body responded immediately to me, and the beginnings of her arousal scent wafted up to me. I forced Eon to remain under control. I fought showing my satisfaction as she remained quiet, subconsciously biting her lip, as she handed me the pencil case. I wondered if she could feel the mate bond, or if she was immune to it just as she was the auras. So I intentionally brushed my fingers along hers. I saw her visibly stiffen and her breath hitch in her throat. Her eyes flickered to mine for a moment before she turned her gaze back to the window and outside. ‘She can feel the mate bond. But she doesn’t know what it is.’ Hush. I know that. I need to focus. ‘I will not. Look, she’s flustered already. I wonder what’s hiding beneath those clothes?’ I shoved Eon to the back of my mind, silencing him as he guffawed and curled up to watch. I now had a raging b***r and hoped it was not showing through my slacks. But I knew that hope was futile as I felt it straining at the material. Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Jim eying me from a few seats back. A knowing smirk was on his face. I’d deal with him later. For some reason, I wasn’t satisfied just knowing she was my mate and had responded to my touch, no matter how well she hid it. I wanted to begin activating the bond. I had to have her as mine. No longer did I want to tame her. Love and cherish her. I wanted to claim her. To mate her. With lycans like my kind, the mate bond had to be activated by physical contact. Brushing her fingers wasn’t enough. I had to fully touch her. But, once it was activated, it would intensify any attraction we already had and would draw us to each other until we gave in and activated the mating process, to be completed only when both were marked-or in this case, the human was marked. The only drawback…but I didn’t finish the thought. I didn’t want to think of the consequences of what I was about to do. I offered my hand and introduced myself, asking her name. She eyed me suspiciously, and ignored my hand before growling her turt response. I frowned, feeling unwarranted hurt by her rejection of my hand. But then I smirked and continued past. If she wouldn’t touch me voluntarily, I would make do with the sleeveless, yet modest, white flowery blouse she wore. Pretending to apologize silently, I placed my hand on her bare shoulder as I walked by. I braced myself for the lightning jolt followed by the searing burn that signified the mate bond had been activated, clenching my teeth as it reverberated through my body. Trisha on the other hand, cried out and jumped up, nearly knocking her desk over. I hid my satisfied chuckle as she breathed and stared me down. I quickly put my hands up and gave an innocent excuse, then took my seat after she sat back down while glaring at me. I clenched my fists as I scented her arousal grow stronger and she fidgeted in her seat. I knew others around me could scent it too. I hope you’re happy. We just made her a target. There is no way that scene would go unnoticed. ‘Then just mate her and get it over with. No one will touch her if she’s marked by you.’ You know as well as I do that I cannot do that. If I do, not only would I place a giant target on her head by our enemies, but she’s human. They’re more fragile and less forgiving. I’m not going to lose her before I get the chance to love her! ‘You know the consequences that will ensue with that decision.’ Yes, I know! Mates, to lycans, were very sacred. But to other supernatural beings, they were property, tools, or weaknesses. The only exception may be vampires, but they held love-hate relationships with their mates. Other supernatural kind mostly used their mates as breeding vessels, though they still loved and protected them. Yet none held them in higher esteem than lycans. To lycans, the mate bond was the most important thing of our existence. Our mates were literally the second halves of our souls for both us and our wolves-since our souls had been split and shared with a wolf’s to allow us to become, as humans called us, werewolves. It was our one true drive, to complete ourselves. And we only ever got one. We never got second or third chances. Those were myth and fairy tales. It was always only ever one. Which meant, the consequences for resisting the bond or outright rejecting it, would result in one thing: weakness and/or death. This also meant our enemies targeted them to try and use as leverage, and for us Royals, our enemies were many and vastly more dangerous than any average wolf. But resisting the bond for too long would weaken the human side until the wolf took control. But their primal beast nature would take over gradually as well, making them feral by the time they were unleashed. They would then go on to eliminate anything standing in their way until they could lay claim to what was theirs, or die trying. If you flat out reject your bond, it was lethal. The moment it severs, both your heart and theirs would literally break and you would bleed from the heart until death took hold. The higher your rank, the worse the effects of both. However, mating to a human, was rare. And absolutely unheard of with Royals. I would be the first to be mated to one. Royals, as a general rule, felt the effects of the mate bond even more turbulently than any other lycan. So, it was only natural that our counterparts would feel the same. How it would effect a human though…was uncertain. Trisha would be subconsciously resisting the bond, as it was her rebellious nature. And I couldn’t allow myself to fully give in to it, not yet. Which meant it would weaken me and slowly drive Eon into a feral state, until we claimed her. The only way to ease it would be to maintain a close proximity and some form of physical touch daily-as much as possible-until she gave in to the bond and allowed me to claim her. But that could take months. ‘You won’t last a week’ Eon’s snicker irritated me. I was a Prince. An Alpha. I was stronger than any average lycan, but I knew full well that the bond was stronger. But I would never admit that aloud. Watch me. Eon shook his massive head in my mind and settled on his paws as if to enjoy the show. I fought the urge to roll my eyes and instead, focused on Trisha. Class had started but it was obvious she wasn’t paying any attention to the teacher, and frankly, neither was I. I was curious if she could feel my aura, and I allowed it to seep out and caress her body. But instead of submitting and bowing her head to me, she squirmed and her arousal scent grew thicker. I couldn’t hide the chuckle that left my lips as I withdrew my aura. So she felt my aura due to the mate bond…but it didn’t cause her the desire to submit. Rather…caused her other desires. Some nearby lycans and a faerie had bowed their heads in submission as they felt my aura, but to Trisha, it seemed only to trigger the mate bond more, as if I was touching her. This may work in my favor. The rest of class passed in a blur as I watched my little mate struggle with her body’s response to me, and as soon as the bell rang, she bolted out the door.
