Viseral Reaction Pt.2

I did know things about partial Fairies. I asked, “Have you ever met Haley Conners?” The mother, who was clearly a doctor, stalled her hands. They all stared at me. John laughed, “No. Billionaires don’t tend to hang out with the likes of us.” I said, “She’d talk to you and your children.” The mom locked eyes with me. I nodded, “You know that, right?” She sighed, “I suspected. I saw a flier once but I was busy and missed her speech.” I shrugged, “Contact her.” John asked, “Do you know her, Kiera?” I shook my head, “No, I know of her.” Hannah woke up with a gasp. She screamed, “MOM!” They hugged in a way that hurt my heart. Would my mom hug me? Did she miss me? Did she love me like these people loved Hannah? She cried, “I’m so sorry. I was so stupid.” Poor thing. She was attracted to the supernatural in Draco. Her need to know about that side of herself drove her into his arms. I asked, “Whose garden is that outside?” The mom answered, “Mine. All my kids help though.” Earth Fairies then. Hannah whispered, “Who is she?” I answered, “No one. Call Mrs. Conners and be good to each other.” John said, “Please don’t go. You saved our baby. Let us feed you.” A woman came out with a lunch box. She said, “At least take this to go.” I nodded and took it. Kayda said, “I don't smell trackers. It's a grilled cheese sandwich. You’d think saving their sister in law’s life would warrant meat.” I nearly laughed out loud. I said, “If you do connect with Mrs. Conners, please don’t mention me.” John frowned, “Could she help you too?” I laughed, “No, sadly she can’t.” I knew she wasn’t like me. I wasn’t Hackura or Fairy. He stared at me then pleaded, “Let us help you, please.” I replied, “You did. You came over to a stranger who was having a rough day and made it better. For that alone, I was going to check on Hannah.” Kayda grumbled, “But I didn’t get to roast or eat anyone.” I probably was the only person that could’ve fought Draco. Sadly, my body shut down around him for some reason. I put a hand on his shoulder, “Take care of each other.” He frowned, “Where is that son of a b***h who laid hands on my daughter?” Hannah whimpered and her mom and brothers moved to her. I answered, “He was being chased by people whose daughter he killed. They got a tip on his location.” John asked, “A tip huh?” I nodded, “Yes. It was all very convenient. They chased him out of the house and I went in and got Hannah.” He said, “Joe called to tell me the house burned down.” I shrugged, “That’s too bad. All her stuff is in her car.” He nodded, “I told him that Hannah was on her way home and that something bad went down. He said the techs told him there were no bodies on scene, but he was unable to reach the homeowner.” I replied, “I doubt he will be able to.” Draco was either going home, wherever that was, another realm, or the Demons would get him. John pulled me into a hug and I let myself give into it. I wondered if my dad was like him and for just one second I pretended he was mine. He pulled back and handed me a handkerchief. He said, “To remember us.” I wiped my tears, “Thank you.” Hannah stood shakily and gave me a hug. She whispered, “I’ll never forget you. I may even put streaks in my hair like yours.” I told her, “Go after your dreams, Hannah. Don’t let this take that away from you. Don’t let him win. Ok? You are strong and you are a survivor.” She whispered, “I thought I was going to die.” She had been about to. I told her, “You aren’t dead though. You’re here and he’s gone. Be the woman you always wanted to be. Now, you can beat him by being everything you wanted. Ok?” She nodded. I added, “Mrs. Conners is also a therapist.” She laughed, “I can’t afford her services.” I said, “She actually has very reasonable rates. I’ve sent more than one person her way. She volunteers her time at several clinics too and they are free.” They were hers and she could afford it. People thought she would be stuck up, especially humans, since she was rich. From my research she was an amazing person. Hannah nodded, “Ok.” Her mom said, “We will be contacting her. John can say it was because of that flier.” He chuckled, “She can’t lie. It’s adorable.” I winked, “None of them can.” He asked, “How do you know?” I answered, “When you meet her, she’ll tell you. Then you’ll know how I know. They are special.” He grinned, “I know that.” The kids rolled their eyes probably thinking that’s just what parents said, but it was true in this case. I walked outside and jogged back to where I left my truck. Kayda warned, “There are Demons all around.” I asked, “Can I help you?” One answered, “He got away through some portal.” I turned, “Really? Where? New York?” There had to be one there since that’s where I was in my first memory. He snorted, “No, Alabama.” I frowned, “There’s one there?” I rubbed my head. They sighed, “You don’t know how to get through. Do you?” I stared at my handkerchief refusing to let them see my tears. I pocketed it. I answered, “I’m sorry but I don’t. I’ll call you if I hear of him around ever again. Should you catch him and need to know how to kill him, call me. I’ll tell you.” One sneered, “We should get her. She’s one of them.” Kayda took over to say, “Try it, whelp. I’m not in a good mood and my human is hurting emotionally. I want to roast someone more than you could know.” The woman said, “We will not harm her. She gave us the lead and got that human out. She also burned the evidence we were there. We were not exactly subtle.” She nodded to me, “We will call and we’d appreciate the same in return.” I asked, “How certain are you that your daughter is dead? I help people get out of abusive situations and there are more around.” She frowned, “We found a burn spot.” That was it? I asked, “Were her things there?” She replied, “It was her home.” I said, “We do that when we get people out.” She raised an eyebrow, “You work with Demons then.” I shrugged, “I can do that myself.” But yes I did work with Demons. She asked hopefully, “Do you know Hallesta?” I admitted, “Not personally but I know the name.” She took a step, “How?” I answered, “She’s friends with someone I know. They were having drinks a few weeks ago so I don’t think your daughter is dead.” They all gasped. I got in my truck and left. I called Stella. She answered, “We are going for a record today.” I told her, “Reach out to your demon friend that helps us. Hallesta’s family thought she was dead.” She gasped, “The demon family I sent you the contact for is Hallesta’s family?” I answered, “Yup-p.” She whistled, “I’ll call.” Kayda grumbled, “You should’ve let me roast the rude one. They are stupid anyway.” I replied, “That’s mean.” She questioned, “Who thinks someone is dead from a char mark? FAMILY even!” I answered, “A lot of people. We do that and let people assume who is dead.” She retorted, “And they are stupid. They don’t test anything or they’d know.” I reasoned, “It’s good they don’t.” She reiterated, “it’s stupid.” I asked, “What if our family thinks we are dead?” She replied, “They know we aren’t.” I asked, “Huh?” She sighed, “I sense their Dragons. Which means they sense me.” I argued, “What if that’s a power we have?” It was an argument we’d had a lot. She said, “I’ve called out to them and so have you.” I stopped the truck. I asked my Dragon, “WHAT? I’ve done what?” She sighed, “Sometimes when you’re really upset your soul cries out for them and they know it. They miss us and know we want them to come to us.” I asked, “Have they ever called out for us?” She whispered, “K.” I asked, “Have they?” She answered, “No.” I let the tears fall as I started the truck back. At this point I was driving blindly on back roads. Kayda tried again, “K…” I cut her off, “They know that I want them back. I’ve called out for them and you have too. John Oliver had a cop checking on his daughter. He knew where she was and you bet your purple ASS if she’d ever called for him he’d have gone in guns blazing. He sat there and meant every word about going to jail for her. My dad wouldn't and isn't doing the same.” It stung more than anything else could. They were leaving me out here and now someone was looking for me. Kayda replied, “But they don’t know where we are.” The urge to fly gripped me so hard I pulled over. I told my Dragon, “We can’t. We’ve always known that and it’s why Draco left because there’s been no sighting of us. We’ve been smart. We can’t let him find us. I don’t know if I can fight him.” I froze near him. Kayda said, “I can.” That was probably true. I snorted, “A Dragon fight would probably draw every Supernatural in the realm and others.” She huffed, “I still want to roast him.” I did too but I didn’t know why. Kayda told me, “I don’t have to know why. He scares you therefore he must die.” I did love that about her. She was already to roast people, but no one had really scared me. Not even Blair and he tried to kill me. Kayda screeched at the reminder we were shot. I took several deep breaths before getting back in and driving. I took out the grilled cheese sandwich and ate it. Kayda was incredulous, “We saved their daughter and we didn’t even get meat and now there are vegetables and fruit in here too?! WHERE IS THE CHOCOLATE? Unbelievable.” That actually made me laugh. Before I knew it I was parking in my place near my cave in Tennessee. I should’ve known this was where my body would take me. I always felt at home here. Then sometimes it was as if I belonged, then the feeling would fade. I chased that feeling all over, and the most common denominator was here. I felt it here. I went into my cave and shifted into my Dragon. I let her roam the cave. She hovered over the ground a few times. I felt bad it was all I could give her. She could hover, but we couldn't take to the skies. Sometimes we walked around and shifted outside when she needed to hunt. She’d need to here soon. I shifted back and grabbed my clothes. I crawled into my makeshift bed and sobbed. Kayda comforted, “It’s ok, K. This is why I didn’t want to tell you they knew about us.” I asked, “Why won’t they come for us? Don’t they love us?” She replied, “I think they do.” I screamed, “Then where are they?! We are all alone and we called for them somehow. They are ignoring us. It’s been almost eleven years. We haven’t found our mate. Now, we are being hunted by people we HAVE to know. I must know Draco and Andrew. You and I are in danger because we don’t know who the hell we are running from!” Even saying their names was hard. I hit my head. I pleaded, “Come on, K. Remember them. You know them, you have to. Your body remembers them. Your brain should too.” Nothing happened. I screamed in anger and punched the rock wall of the cave. It didn’t hurt me so I proceeded to scream and throw things. I lost track of time and eventually sat in the middle of the floor and sobbed. Kayda offered, “The sparm won’t let us remember.” I cried, “Why did they do this to me? She said she was my best friend. Or I guess it could be a guy. It just feels right that it was a she though. This is all so ridiculous. I have no idea what I’m doing here! I can’t find my damn mate and I’m alone all the time!” I screamed, “WHY WON’T YOU COME FOR ME WHEN I NEED YOU? WHAT DID I DO WRONG? I DON’T WANT TO BE YOUR HOPE, I JUST WANT TO BE WITH YOU! I’M SO TIRED OF BEING ALL ALONE! STOP LEAVING ME HERE TO FLOUNDER!” Kayda told me, “They cannot hear you.” Well, I was calling out for them somehow. Maybe they could hear me. I hoped they did and I hoped it hurt them as much as it hurt me to be ignored. Kayda told me, “We are not floundering.” I snorted, “We are no closer to having memories or finding our mate than we were when we came through.” f**k and now I was horny. Kayda reasoned, “We can fix that. Go to a bar and hook up.” Yeah, I could do that. It’s the only thing I could fix in this entire thing. Kayda screeched, “KINGSLEY! We help people. We JUST saved Hannah.” I replied, “And let the one link to our past go. I could’ve gone to him and he would’ve taken us home. Or I could've questioned him. I just let him go.” Kayda replied, “I’d have taken over if you tried to do that. He’s not good, and I know it.” Yeah, I did too. I whispered, “But he got home. We could've been home. We could've flown.” She sighed, “I know that you want to go back with our mate. I do too. We are their hope and maybe if we got back without him then we’d never get them back. Maybe we’d be like Hannah.” I asked her, “What if they are fighting the Azar’s without us? What if they need us and I gave up our one chance to get home to them?” Kayda huffed, “Our chance is our memories and our mate. We know how to get home.” I’d tried to go back. I’d searched all over New York multiple times. There was a way to get back there, but I couldn't find it and it was annoying. Just another thing locked away from me. I left and went to a local bar. The second I sat down, I was sent drinks. A Warlock was finally brave enough to sit down. He told me, “I’ve never met anyone like you.” I chuckled, “Not many have.” He asked, “Care to go back to my place?” I asked, “Do you live with your parents?” I tended to avoid that situation. Parents asked questions when they were in covens. Other supernatural parents were fine, especially wolves. They were close but didn’t think of themselves as humans like Witches and Warlocks. He laughed, “No. I moved out when I turned eighteen.” I asked, “And how long ago was that?” He grinned, “Twenty years ago.” I turned, “Damn. You don’t look like the average Warlock.” He admitted, “I was a Vampire pet for a while. Got hurt and since it was protecting her I got some Vampire blood donated, not hers. Some Vamp in trouble.” I laughed, “Yeah, I dated one for a hot second. Then he asked me to be a pet. I looked into it.” Kayda grumbled, “And you didn’t let me roast him for the suggestion. It was degrading.” To us, but a valid option for others. It just wasn’t something for me and Kayda. He nodded, “I tried because I cared about said Vampire, but I wasn’t cut out for it. She wasn’t my wick and wanted to save bonding for her mate. We parted ways amicably.” I nodded. I had to leave the Vampire I was dating before Kayda roasted him. So, I left him a letter. I finished my drink, “Let’s go.” He grinned, “Alright.” He led me out and walked me several blocks to an actual house. I was expecting an apartment for some reason. Kayda replied, “Probably because he looks twenty-two.” He pinned me against his front door and kissed me. Kayda said, “Adequate kiss. He will do fine.” Probably. She was a harsh critic though. He picked me up and unlocked his door. He kissed my neck and threw off my shirt. I undid his pants and he kicked them off. We made out walking up the stairs. He pushed me back onto the bed. He asked, “Is that ok?” Kayda huffed. I told him, “You can be as rough as you want with me. I can take it.” He grinned and kissed up my leg before ripped my underwear off. Kayda groaned, “Why did he do that?” I shot back, “It’s hot. Hush.” She grumbled, “It would be hot if we had underwear we could wear. Now we will be running around sans underwear.” I tuned her out so I could enjoy this. He took his time and knew what he was doing. He made me come four times which was impressive. It was better than Blair ever did and I’d dated him. He asked me, “What’s your name?” I answered, “Call me K. What’s yours?” He answered, “Kole with a K because my parents wanted me to be unique.” I laughed, “I like it, Kole with a K.” He threaded our fingers, “You’re not my wick.” Kayda snorted, “What a revolutionary observation.” I told him, “I know.” He said, “But I’d like to take you on a date. We seemed quite compatible here.” Kayda huffed, “Quite? Did he say quite? I disagree. He was adequate, like I said.” I said, “With the understanding your wick or my mate could come along and this ends?” He nodded, “Absolutely.” I grinned, “Then you have a deal Kole with a K. Don’t ask me to meet your parents though. Warlock and Witch parents ask too many questions.” He snorted, “You’re telling me. I usually hang out around other supes. My best friend is a Werewolf.” I sat up, “Then you’d know why people around here are terrified of the Conners.” He laughed, “Anyone who is smart has a healthy dose of fear for them. Nashville is more scared of them than the packs around Franklin. Why are they? They do shady s**t and if the Conners ever prove it they are done for.” I hummed, “I see.” He asked, “Are you looking to take down Nashville wolves?” I answered, “Not currently.” He winked, “Well, if you ever want some help I’d do it. One of those packs beat up my best friend when he was a pup because he crossed the border on a dare.” I asked, “Who does that to a pup?” He answered, “Nashville.” I asked, “So…” He raised an eyebrow. I continued, “How are you feeling about another round?” Warlocks could go just as much as other supernaturals but they tended to think they couldn't. Kayda retorted, “Because they spend so much time with humans. It’s a serious problem that if we were so inclined we could fix.” I didn’t think we could. They’d ingrained too much, but this Warlock seemed to shy away from that. He rolled on top of me. He said, “I could definitely be ready for that.” I felt him poke him in the stomach. I grinned, “Someone is definitely ready for more.” He asked, “Have you seen yourself? I doubt anytime I’m around you I won’t be sporting a semi-hard on. Darn the luck.” He kissed me and I let myself float away in the passion of the evening. When Kole fell asleep Kayda conceded, “He’s definitely adequate. I won’t roast him and I support you dating him for a time. If we find mate though, he’s gone.” I agreed, “We already told him that. Same with his Wick.” In the following weeks Kole and I had a lot of fun together. He gave me spells to help with a few things. I could pass those onto the Witches that worked with us. We had plans for Christmas. I wasn’t one to ever make those plans, but Kole was a lot of fun. He was spending the afternoon with his family, but he’d planned a whole thing at his house afterwards. When the time rolled around I was wearing a nice dress I’d bought. Which is how I should’ve known it was going to go poorly. My phone rang out an alert for the Operation Saint line. I hung my head and read it. I cursed, “God damn it.” Kole laughed, “The bat phone rings again. We can hold off dinner. Or…” I asked, “Or?” He said, “You can let me help you.” Kayda sighed, “He’s asking for a lot of trust.” The thing was I did trust him. I told him, “Park past that tree.” He did and got out following me. We got into my truck. He said, “Gotta admit I didn’t think you had a vehicle, but since you drooled over my friends Porsche I thought you had a nicer car.” I grinned, “Not for things like this.” He grinned, “And what are we doing?” I answered, “Saving someone in an abusive relationship.” His face instantly went tight. I asked, “Are you ok?” He answered, “I haven’t told you everything about me. My Aunt was murdered by her Wick. He abused her for years, but she refused to leave. I loved her.” I put a hand on his leg, “Of course you did.” He admitted, “It’s part of why the second I was eighteen I was out of there. My family and coven tried to do things the legal human way. I begged our coven leader to do what an Alpha would. What my best friend’s Alpha would do. They said it was murder.”
