Viseral Reaction Pt.3

Kayda scoffed, “Such an ugly word.” I replied, “But what it’s called.” She said, “Not to supernatural’s. It’s justice, vengeance, or protection. Sometimes it’s plain revenge. That’s what we do. We are NOT humans. Neither are they.” I told Kole, “I’m sorry for your loss.” He nodded, “I’ll help you do this. I want in if this a thing you do regularly.” I agreed, “Of course, and it is.” Kayda hummed but didn’t object. I parked the truck and saw the woman. Kole stiffened and went to open his door. I grabbed it, “Not yet.” He ground out, “She’s my Wick.” My heart stopped. I hated this f*****g holiday. Why did I ever try to celebrate it? I told him, “We will get her.” He winced, “We had plans.” I waved, “We knew this would end if we found those we were destined for. I’m sorry this is how we are finding yours.” He stared at me. He whispered, “I hurt you.” I shrugged, “You have made me laugh and feel less alone. I don’t usually do holiday stuff. It reminds me I have no one. It just stings because of the date on the calendar, but we are going to your wick.” He insisted, “I still want in whatever it is you do.” I nodded, “Of course.” He asked, “Who hurt her?” I answered, “Her dad. She’s a partial and he doesn’t like that. Which is insane logic since she didn’t ask to be born and he f****d to have her.” I heard a vehicle coming. I grinned, “Show time.” We got out silently and he followed my lead which had to be hard since he’d want to run to his Wick. She was a partial shifter. She was trying to crawl away. A man sighed, “Damn it. I hate when they do this. I know I should be kind and end your suffering, but let’s get you to the hospital. You’ll give a fake name and everything. I hate this. God, I do. They have my family though.” He picked her up and I cleared my throat. He turned then said, “Who are you?” I answered, “Someone who can help you find your family. Someone who can help you stop having to do this. You’re the one we call the Angel. Which is funny since you have Angel blood.” He let his tears fall, “Not much but enough they took my wife, my Wing, and family. I help all the ones who aren’t dead when I get here.” I replied, “I know. We’ve been the ones coming along after you and taking them so they disappear. Give the woman to him. He’s her Wick.” He asked, “And he didn’t do this?” Kole said, “Give her to me before I use a spell to kill you where you stand. I would never harm her.” He cradled her the second he had her. I told him, “Let me evaluate her really quick.” He knew I was a trained EMT. I checked her over. I asked, “How close is your best friend’s pack?” He answered, “Twenty miles.” I instructed, “Go back to my truck and get her to their pack hospital. They will keep her a secret and packs tend to be more understanding about treating other supernatural beings. Plus, they know you.” He was conflicted and I could see it. He didn’t want to leave me here. I told him, “I’ll see you again. I’m fine here.” He glared at the partial Angel, “If you hurt her I’ll hunt you down.” He swore, “I won’t hurt her.” Kole said, “I’ll come with a pack if you do. You got me? I have friends.” He nodded. Kole took off running with his mate. I sighed, “Marry f*****g Christmas.” Kayda said, “He was entertaining enough but he wasn’t ours. I know that’s not the problem and I’m sorry you broke your rule about holiday’s.” Yeah, so was I. The guy asked sympathetically, “Was he your boyfriend?” I shrugged, “We were dating. Never really defined it. I’m fine he met his Wick. I just hate the holidays. Let’s go.” I drove his truck back to where he came from several hours away. We parked and went inside. I went through the communications. I knew the location because I’d searched caves around pretty much everywhere. I got up, “Let’s go, Angel boy.” He asked, “You know where they are being kept?” I answered, “Yup.” Kayda began to get giddy. She said, “People to roast and eat.” Probably since there would be guards and Angel boy wasn’t going to put up a stink about me taking them. I drove him about thirty minutes away. He gasped, “They've been this close this whole time?” I said, “Or they move them around. The most recent picture was here though.” He said, “You’re the Operation Saint Rita chick.” I asked, “How do you figure?” He laughed, “They hate you and you’re going past saving the woman back there. You’re going to help my family and everything about you says you plan to kill the ones holding them.” I glanced at him, “Are you gonna try and stop me?” He snorted, “Nope.” I nodded, “Good. Let’s go.” I grabbed a lighter and bat out of my truck. He muttered, “Strange group of weapons.” Maybe to him. I warned, “Stay behind me.” He nodded. We went into the mouth of the cave. Kayda said, “I sent them near the back. Ten people total. He has a wing and two kids. Which means we have seven people to roast and eat. How exciting.” At least she had something to look forward to. I said, “Consider them your Christmas present.” She chuckled, “Accepted.” We found them in a cage. Which had Kayda ready to breathe fire. They were keeping these people like animals. I gripped the bat and swung on the first one. He went down and we moved silently. When I had five down, they noticed us. Having two left wasn’t bad. I kicked the lock off the hinges. I told him, “Get them out of here!” He looked worried but got his family out while I blocked the remaining too. One pulled a sword. Kayda chuckled, “Fun.” We circled them and I fought sword against bat. One took out my legs and the butt of the swords hit my head and I saw stars. It was a dazing blow, which surprised me. Not much had ever hurt me. Maybe I had a weak spot on my head. Kayda took over my body and killed them. The Angel guy came back and caught me while I wobbled. I told him, “I’ll be fine.” He said, “I can’t let you go on like this.” We subdued the men and he put them in his truck. We took off back to his home. I got out and advised, “You should go somewhere else.” I handed him a card, “She’ll set you up.” He insisted, “Take the truck. We have another car. Go get some help.” I nodded and they left. I drove back to my cave. I hauled them back in there. They asked, “What now?” I grinned, “I leave you all and give my counterpart come out for her Christmas present.” I shifted into Kayda. They screamed and I let her roast them. She ate them one by one, happily. When she shifted back she was more than happy. I sighed and called Kole. He answered, “Thank god. I’ve been a wreck. My best friend sent people to look for you guys, but they didn’t find you.” I asked, “How is your wick?” He answered, “Recovering. She wants to meet you. If you go to my house there are pack members waiting to see if you show up.” Great. Perfect. I said, “I’ll be there soon.” I hung up and went to his house. I told the people waiting, “I’m just going to grab my stuff. His Wick shouldn’t see it.” I went and cleaned up everything he set up for last night. I took the few things I’d left around and put them in a grocery bag. I walked out and they stared at me with pity I didn’t need. Kayda warned, “If they ruin my roasting and eating buzz I’ll just roast them.” I reasoned, “They think I’m hurt by Kole finding his Wick.” I was genuinely happy for him. I was just sad for me. The date and the fact my mate seemed to never be coming. They drove me to the pack, directly to the pack hospital. I was led directly to Kole, who was sitting next to the Alpha family. The one right next to him must be his best friend. Kole looked irritated and grumpy. I asked Kayda, “Why do we still feel woozy?” She admitted, “Not sure.” I hated not knowing about myself. I asked, “Where is your Wick?” He answered, “Talking to the pack shrink. She kicked us out.” I teased, “And you’re taking it well.” He shot me an amused look. The Luna asked, “Are you ok?” I waved, “Fine.” She didn’t look like she believed me. The door opened and I saw Kole’s wick. She squealed, “That’s her! Right?” Kole nodded and we went into the room. She took my hand, “Thank you so much.” I shrugged, “It’s why I do.” She replied, “Probably not for the man you’ve been dating’s Wick.” So she did know about that then. I laughed, “You’d be surprised how many I’ve set up. A werewolf actually. I gave him all the advice on how to woo his mate.” I hadn’t gone to see Roan and his mate in a while. It was exactly who I suspected too. She smiled, “You’re unique then.” I shrugged, “Not from here is the better way to say it.” She took my hand, “Thank you. For bringing him and coming for me. I tried to make my dad happy I just…” She trailed off. I told her, “Abusers are never happy. It’s something wrong with them, not you. Their pure blood bullshit is just that, bullshit. There are plenty of partials who are more powerful than others. One shiny bright example for this realm comes to mind.” They all grinned knowing exactly who I was talking about. Haley Conners. She was on my mind a lot lately. She said, “I’m not like her.” I asked, “Says who? Be the her of the partial Shifters. You guys are so cool. You can shift into whatever you want.” Kayda huffed, “What am I? Chopped LIVER?!” I replied, “You shift into a super cool Dragon. She could if she wanted to. She can be anything.” Kayda retorted, “Probably a smaller Dragon than me.” Probably. She smiled, “I guess that is cool. Kole and I still want to help you.” The Alpha offered, “We can shelter people too. We love Kole like he’s one of our own.” That would be good his Wick could shift into a wolf and run with them. I nodded, “Sure and I appreciate the offer.” I swayed on my feet. Kole asked, “K?” I went to a knee and held my head. The Alpha yelled, “WE NEED A DOCTOR!” I waved, “It’s fine. I’m practically indestructible.” The Luna said, “Practically is not actually.” Evidently. A Doctor ran in and touched my head where I was. I screeched and grabbed his hand. He stared at me. Kole grabbed my arms. He said, “Let him help, K.” The doctor said, “There’s some metal in your head.” I winced, “It’s going to be steel.” I wondered why I didn’t feel the burning. He got tweezers and took out the piece that must have been on the sword. I blinked, already feeling better. The Alpha asked, “How did that happen?” I answered, “Well, I had to save a family and they were being guarded by seven bad guys.” He nodded, “Is cleanup needed?” I shook my head, “Nope. It’s covered.” Kayda happily said, “And in my belly.” The doctor said, “We should do a scan of your head.” I shook my head, “No need. I feel fine now. Apparently headshots are the only thing that hurt me.” He raised an eyebrow. I winked, “I got shot before, the whole ordeal hurt the bullet more than me.” Kole’s friend gasped, “Wow.” I nodded, “Yeah, not a fun way to find out you’re bullet proof though.” I turned to Kole’s mate, “It’s how Operation Saint Rita got started. My boyfriend, who was not a pure blood elitist or a pure blood himself, got in with these guys. He changed and I was ready to move on. He had ideas about me doing exactly as he said and shutting up. He wanted me and his mate. He had this sister wives plan.” The room growled. I nodded, “Yeah, I felt similarly.” Kayda scoffed, “We wanted to roast and eat him.” I smiled and continued, “I told him no way and he shot me when my back was turned thinking I was subdued and would be pliable and scared when he returned. You are not weak for trying to make your dad happy. He was supposed to love, cherish, and protect you from anyone who meant you harm. He wasn’t supposed to be the person you needed protection from. You are not weak, he and the other men and women who believe like him are. You rest up and get better. You’ve got the starting’s of a great support system here. You’ll be ok.” I kissed her head, nodded to Kole, and the Alpha family. I walked out knowing I didn’t get to celebrate Christmas like I planned, but I walked out of there with a lot for my organization. A powerful Warlock that had more than one personal reason to help my cause. A partial shifter who could turn into a fly, hawk, owl, or any small creature and be my ears. Complete with another pack to send those in need for assistance. It definitely wasn’t my worst Christmas. Poor K is lonely. Does our main group know the Oliver group? What do you think? Did they call Haley? We know she'd see them if they did. Kayda found Oliver adorable and found that to be embarassing. Andrew has a brother!!! Draco has been searching for Kinglsey but now they left where she is. Her breakdown asking her family to come to her got me. Did it get you? My heart breaks for her she has no idea what's going on. Do we think we will see Kole again? Is K's feelings about the Holidays (mentioned in book 7) making sense?
