It’s been weeks since the night I told Joels’ parents that he cheated on me and left me for Regina without a care in the world. Even though it’s been weeks, Dollie and I still feel a slight tug towards our ex-mate.
It takes a while for a bond to be finally broken, especially when there has been a relationship between the two despite the lack of marking and extent intimacy. My inner wolf is still playing hide and seek.
I spent the last week at my parents house, they decided that with everything going on I should take a short time out with college. When I protested, my dad assured me that he had already spoken to the Head of college and promised to assist me on studying through home. Given some thought, the Head approved.
In a way I was glad for it, I was starting to go barmy trailing through the school walls. Of course there were still whispers whenever myself or Joel or Regina were around. I tried to avoid them both, and whenever I do by chance bump into Joel he gives me a shy look and tries to beg for my forgiveness.
I’d let him for a bit before cutting him off and storming off. I still feel pity for him. But if I was to forgive… no, not forgive, move on… and not if, when. When I move on, I may be his friend. Because despite everything, I still care about him. He is a good lad he just made the wrong choices. I still feel bad he hadn’t become a Alpha yet, but that’s his fault.
As I look through my study books, I let out a yawn. My eyes feel heavy and my back hurts.
I arch my back as I look at the clock on my bedroom wall and see that it’s getting late. When all of a sudden I hear taps against my bedroom window.
I stand up to walk over to see who could possibly be outside my house at this time of the night, expecting no else, it was Joel. I peek down at him and he looks rather sullen.
“What do you want?” I hiss at him, he looks up at me and raises his palm, pleading.
“Pleeeaseee come down, Lexiiii.” He stammers. He’s drunk, great.
“No, I’m not talking to you.” I turn my back to the window as I start to walk away from it, only I stop in my heel. Joel was crying.
Through crying he was pleading, apologising, begging for my forgiveness.
With a sigh, I decided to trot downstairs to meet him outside, already regretting it. But he was once my mate, I couldn’t help it. I couldn’t help feeling sorry for him.
As I reached Joels’ figure, Dollie decided to come out. Despite her feeling betrayed, she too still cared for him. She felt sorrow hearing his cries. Whether it’s an act to get me to forgive him, I do not know, but I’m giving him a chance to let it all out.
“I’m here, what do you want?” I ask him, feeling rather annoyed.
“I miss you.” He sobs at me with his eyes full of tears. He’s actually crying, which makes me feel even worse.
“I made a mistake, I don’t want Regina, I want you.” He blunders on. I sigh at his declaration.
“Joel, it was inevitable. I’m sorry but it’s for the best. You even said so yourself, there was something wrong with our bond.” I pause, looking at him.
“Of course it hurt me and Dollie, but we could feel a stronger tug between you and Regina. The moon drew you together.”
“No! You’re wrong!” He shouts at me getting off his knees as he walks closer towards me. I step back, alarmed at his sudden movement.
“I marked Regina because I realised I couldn’t mark you! I got scared!” He continues, staring at me with those big beady eyes of his.
“It doesn’t matter, the more time you spend with another wolf, the stronger both of your bond gets.” I return his commotion. We were both just stood there looking at each other, after a few moments had passed he moved closer to me again.
“You’re close enough.” I project, holding my palm out to stop him. But he just kept coming closer.
“Lexi…” He softly moans my name. I back myself into a pillar as he continues to walk closer to me.
“Don’t, you’re drunk.” I protest. He buries his face into my neck and inhales my sent.
“You smell delicious, I miss sniffing your luscious scent.” My heartbeat is now beating rapidly, which must be misleading Joel for lust.
Which is wrong, my heart is beating fast because I know he’ll be trying to f*ck me even though I’m not longer his!
“I suggest you leave, Joel.” I growl at him.
“Not a chance, Baby.” He says with his hands on my waist now.
Is he really doing this? He’s trying to claim me before becoming Alpha, even though he’s already claimed another wolf, which I actually did not expect. My teeth are now gritting together with frustration, my inner wolf is even starting to get pissed off now.
“Joel, I am not kidding you, leave my property.”
“Or what?” He cut me off, smirking. Which only antagonises me more. If he so as much puts his hands on me any further, I’m screaming my dad for help.
“You don’t have a single right or the liberty to place your hands on me anymore. I am no longer yours!” I scream at him. With a instant reaction, he chokes my neck with his bare hand.
“Listen to me, you little b*tch, you’re mine!” He snarls with a dark look in his eyes, full of rage at the fact I’m now rejecting him. That’s it, I’m screaming for my dad.
“DAAAD!!” I call out, Joel tightens his grip on me.
I cry out, trying to wiggle myself out of his grip. But I fail as he’s a lot stronger than me. With my anxiety coming to surface and Dollie getting mad, my claws start to come out. As I go to call out for my dad again, Joel covers my mouth with his other hand to stop me.
At this point I was struggling to breathe, with my anxiety flying everywhere it made it harder. Anxious for my dad to come out and help me, my heart started beating faster.
“You are mine.” He repeats himself, he goes to lick my neck as a light flickers on.
The front door flung open and my dad let out a ferocious growl.
“Get the hell away from my daughter.” He roars.
Without making a move, Joel continues to choke me. I whimper under his grip, trying to yelp for help.
I knew all it takes is one loud cry for my dad to come to my rescue, no matter where he is or what he’s doing. He will always run to save me. Not a second later, my father had Joel flying across from the perch onto the pathway.
“I said… get away from my daughter!” Finally having the ability to regain my breath, I hover over gasping for air. Any longer, I’d have passed out.
“Are you okay, Sweetpea?” My dad asks me, stroking my hair.
Without having the strength to answer, I nod. My father turns to face Joel with his teeth bare, ready to bite his head off. Joel gets up off the ground and looks at me, then looks at my father.
Since when did my sweet Joel become such a monster? Tears pooled down my eyes as I could feel the pain Dollie was in, she was furious, she wanted to break out and run.
“Don’t ever come near my daughter again, you hear me, Monster?!” My father yells at him.
“I-I’m sorry, my beast lost control. It won’t happen again.” He cries out, cupping his face with his hands.
“It better not do.” My father hisses at him. Joel takes one more look at me before running into the wind and my father turns to me, embracing me. My body was shivering from the terror. My father looked torn as we looked into each other’s eyes and I knew he could see the pain through both my eyes and my wolf’s.
Without having any control of my emotions or my actions, I found myself running into the woods. My dad called out to me but I just kept running. Even though my father is worried for me and had to fight Joel off me just now, he knows I need to run.
I rip my clothes off as I start to shift, claws coming out first then hairs start to grow out of my skin. Once every piece of clothing was off, I fully transformed into my wolf. I was now running on four legs. Darting through the trees, I was flying through the woods.
God, it felt good. My inner wolf was extremely satisfied running on her four legs. She was itching to feel the icy cold air, to smell the nature around her, to see the twinkling stars in the sky. I felt elated for her, it had been a while since my inner beast had come out.
As I progress into the woods, I crash into this big massive beast. Frozen in my spot, my eyes were glued to the beast with fear. His aura was dark, very dark. Neither Dollie or I had ever felt such a dark aura. I could tell what kind of beast he was. He was a Lycan, the most powerful wolf in existence.
Lycans are higher than any normal wolf or any Alpha! You know how wolves submit to Alphas? Well, Alphas have no choice but submit to Lycans.
This beast was not on four legs, he was on two. He was no ordinary beast: his canines were longer, sharper and more deadly. His eyes were silver-grey with huge pupils that dilate as they look into my eyes; which could only mean he’s attracted to my inner beast. His figure was tall and broad, hunched over as if he was in pain.
Realisation of his attraction towards me hits him as he starts to straighten his posture. The sudden movement has me stepping back, knowing full well what kind of beast I am, he demands that I cower in front of him. When I take a few moments of hesitating, I have no choice but to cower to the ground. A satisfied grunt escapes his throat.
I suddenly felt irritated by his arrogance, so without intending to disrespect this ferocious beast in front of me, I stood back up, growled at him and sped off further into the woods as fast as I could. Not looking behind me, I heard a very angry howl.
Once I knew I was far away from the beast I had just bumped into, my body collapsed to the ground. Feeling the exhaustion and sense of relief, I suddenly blacked out.
******
The following morning I had woken up in my bed at my parents house. My head was pounding and my body was still shaking from the terror I had been experiencing lately. Stretching my body, I notice I wasn’t in any clothes.
I was completely naked, due to shifting into my wolf from the night before and my clothes was scattered across the woods. I also notice I wasn’t alone. I look across the room and my mother was sat in the armchair, watching me.
“Wha-what happened? How did I get here? And why aren’t I wearing any clothes?” Questions were flowing out of my mouth so rapidly, my mother stood up and made her way to my bed and sat down besides me.
“Your father woke me up after you ran into the woods, he told me what had happened. Of course, as any sincere mother, I started interrupting him and going crazy.” She paused for a second before continuing her explanation.
“Once he managed to settle me, he told me that it was clear your wolf wanted to come out and that you had no control over it so he ordered me to come find you. He knew your clothes would be scattered across the woods, so I wolfed out into the woods with a blanket between my fangs. Eventually I found you, wrapped the blanket around you then called out to your father. He heard me and came, he then picked up in his arms and carried you back home while I looked for your clothes.” She then fell silent as I processed what she was explaining to me. After a few moments later she then mentions one more thing.
“As I searched for your clothes, I couldn’t find your jeans.” She then stopped, looking anxious of my reaction yet to come.
I stared at her in a state of shock. It didn’t take me long to realise that the reason she was anxious about my reaction was, because my phone was in my jeans pockets. And somehow an item of my clothing with a personal possession had gone missing, which seemed rather odd to me. I inhaled a rather long sigh while pinching the bridge of my nose.
“I’m sorry, Baby, I’m sorry that I couldn’t find your jeans and your phone.” My mother reaches out to me, looking sympathetic.
“It’s okay, Mother, you did your best.” I reassured her as I pecked her on the cheek, snaking my arms around her.
After a while of enjoying the comfort of my mothers’ embrace, my thoughts decided to focus on the Lycan I had encountered last night. Chewing on my lip, I contemplated on telling my mother. Having a screwed up mind, I decided that I was going to just as she spoke beforehand.
“You okay, Baby? You seem…unnerved.” I pause for a few seconds.
“I… umm… when I was running through the woods, I stumbled across a Lycan.” I stop, waiting for her reaction.
She flinches before turning my face with her tender fingers so that I could look into her eyes. She seemed slightly concerned.
“Tell me, from your encounter with this Lycan, how did you feel?”
“I want to know because you’re aware that they can be very powerful and I know that you feel overwhelmed by things.” She finishes, holding my hand.
I took some time to think about my answer.
“Honestly, when I saw the beast, I instantly felt power. I wasn’t as scared as I should have been, even though he was literally the most ferocious looking beast I have ever seen. When I looked into his eyes I could see that his pupils were dilated. He demanded that I submit to him of course and I hesitated at first. Then when I did, he let out a c*cky grunt so I stood back up, growled at him then I ran off without looking back. He let out a very angry howl so it’s clear I pissed him off.”
When I finished giving my answer, my mother was nodding her head as if she was agreeing with her thoughts. As if she understood the concept of what I was saying. When she saw the confusion look on my face, she said,
“It sounds to me that he instantly felt attracted to you.” Is all she voiced out, leaving me wanting to know more about what she thought. But I didn’t press her.
“Right, it’s time we got up and do something. You’ve been dealing with a lot of heartbreak lately so me and your father want to cheer you up.” She says gleefully, jumping off my bed and pulling me to my feet.
******
A few days have gone by and I haven’t seen much of Joel. Since the night my dad threw him off me he’s been distant from everyone. I could feel the bond between him and Regina get stronger every day, which means they’re spending a hella lot of time together. Which is fine by me.
My wolf has started to come out more again and I’ve let her. I feel that, since she let herself out that night it’s made her happier. If I’m honest with you, I think she’s been coming out more since the encounter of the Lycan. I’m thinking she’s hoping to meet him again. So she’s leading me to a very powerful wolf?
Super, the way to go in making my life bizarre, Girl.
I guess if she feels that’s the route to go down then I’ll have no choice but to follow her desires. After all, it’s the inner beasts that draw us together. And I want nothing more than to be happy with Dollie. I can’t be happy if my sweet pup isn’t.
So I’m currently standing in a highly expensive clothes shop in a hunt for a new outfit with Muffy. There’s this wolf gathering that occurs every so often tonight, I’m actually really excited to go to it. Think of it as a teenage school party, but with wolves. It’s an opportunity for people to come together, to have a drink and to have a laugh.
As I scan across the shop looking at the stuff they have in store, I see this cherry red, sparkly short dress. I walk towards it and pick it up.
“That would look insane on you.” Muffy narrates, suddenly at my side. I look at her with a smile beaming on my face.
“I’m going to get it.” I turn to look at the dress to see it’s price and it was $29.99.
“It’s not too expensive, you’d be able to get it half price with your student ID.” She says, looking at the price too. She then gasps as if she remembers something.
“I saw these very gorgeous leather boots down at the shoe section, they would totally go with that dress!” She exclaims excitedly with sparkles in her eyes before dragging me to the shoe section.
When we got there I could see that she was right: they came up to the knee and the colour matched the dress. The heels were stiletto style but thin and short-ish.
I picked my shoe size then slid my feet and legs into both boots, I stood up and walked around in a few circles to stretch my feet into them. I looked into the mirror and liked what I saw. I looked slightly taller and thinner.
“They suit you.” My best friend comments, looking at me with her head c*cked to the side.
Deciding that I really love the boots and that they would fit with the dress scrunched up in my hand, I walked over to the checkout counter and bought the items. Muffy was still looking for her outfit so I waited by the exit.
When she finally found her outfit and had bought what she had picked out, she walked towards the exit to where I was standing and locked arms with mine before leading us both out of the shop.
******
“Do you think we’ll both meet someone at the gathering tonight?” She asks me with hope in her voice as we walk towards the woods.
“Maybe, you might meet someone.” I mumble.
“Just me? Why not you as well?” She asks, sounding upset at my dishearten.
“Because I’m ugly and chunky.”
“Oh, shut up.” She says, cutting me off.
“You’re not ugly and you’re curvy. Curvy is sexy.” I sigh at her as she compliments me.
“You’re supposed to say things like this, you’re my best friend. No one will want me.”
Muffy stops in her tracks as she grabs my arm. She looks deep into my eyes with certainty.
“Listen to me, Lexi. You are a catch! Anyone is lucky to have you as their friend or lover. People bully you because they don’t see how amazing you truly are and they’re sad. They project their own insecurities onto you which isn’t fair.” She takes a breather after speaking.
“Thank you.” I say to her while embracing her into a hug.
I then groomed myself before continuing to walk to the gathering. As I progress further into the woods I felt a dark aura. Dollie crept out of the corner with her tail slightly wagging. She’s nervous. But what for? It could just be that Lycans are in the midst, which is expected; it is a wolf gathering after all, open to any kind of wolf.
Eventually we caught up to everyone at the gathering and were met with Cameron, he’s the Alpha to the Wildfang Shadows Pack. Which is a tough pack, their members are warriors and protectors of the tribe.
Cameron is a friendly wolf that everyone loves, he’s pretty much the heart of the gathering. He’s also the one that puts the gatherings together along with Gabe and Zena, they’re his pack mates. His smile welcomes us as he awaits for our arrival with two bottles of WKD in his hands.
“You two took your time.” His smile widens as he speaks.
“Lexi was having a self-conscious moment.” Muffy says as she takes one of the drinks from Camerons’ hands. I roll my eyes at her as I take the other drink while Cameron let’s out a playful chuckle.
“I don’t see why, she looks gorgeous.” I jump at his compliment, my face blushes as he looks me up and down.
“Th-thank you.” I stammer in response, clutching onto my drink.
Camerons’ face falls as he looks over my shoulder, he has a warned look on his face.
“Now that you ladies are here I should assist other wolves company.” He mutters sheepishly before walking away.
“Well that was weird.” I voice out. I looked towards Muffy and she was scratching her arm.
“What’s wrong?” I ask her, she turns to look at me before taking a sip of her drink.
“Just nervous, that’s all.” She admits.
“Nervous about what?”
“I just want to meet someone.”
“Ah, you’ll find someone soon. I promise.” I assure her as I stroke her arm.
After taking a few sips of my drink, I start to feel slightly tipsy. Music was playing and I was dancing to it while Muffy let’s loose at the side of me. I could feel good vibes and I was rather enjoying myself. After a while I started to feel intense, like the dark aura I had felt gotten darker. Without having my phone on me I couldn’t message my parents to let them know I was having a good time which really irritated me.
Joel wandered up to me as Muffy disappeared with some other male wolf, he looked nervous. With my hands gripping onto my drink I go to speak up but he cuts me off.
“Before you say anything, I just wanted to apologise for the way I acted that night. I let my inner wolf control my emotions.” He stops with his eyes watering.
Without knowing what to say, his eyes darken as he looks at me. A possessive but aroused growl escapes from his throat and I cross my arms at the action.
“You know, you shouldn’t wear dresses like that. It shows off too much of your skin.” He hissed at me.
“And what has it got to do with you with what I wear?” I snap back at him.
“You don’t have the right to have a problem, I’m not yours.”
He looks quite angry, he really doesn’t like the fact I’m wearing something sultry and that there are plenty of other male wolves about. He attempts at moving closer to me so I step backwards away from him. As I continue to back away from him my back hits a hard figure as I hear a dominating growl behind me.
Shocked at the sound, I flinch as a spark of energy zaps through my entire body. I turn around to see a very tall, light-tanned-skinned, bulky figure with light-blonde hair. His light-grey eyes were focused on Joel standing behind me, his eyes went dark as they shifted directly into mine.
My heart was fluttering inside my chest as we continued to look into each other’s eyes. His lips were in a tight line pressed together, he looked back at Joel and his brows furrow in rage. My hands and knees were shaking as he snaked his arm around my waist.
I knew this man was a Lycan, he had strong power energy flowing darkly out of his aura. My heart is now hammering inside my chest as the Lycans’ hold on me tighten, Dollie is peeking through my eyes. Her tail was wagging and she was panting hard. This means she’s happy to see the Lycan.
As the three of us continue to stand there in silence, the Lycan buries his nose in my neck and takes a whiff. A satisfied growl escapes his throat as he inhales my scent; overwhelmed by the motion, I just stand there frozen.
“Get away from her!” Joel snarls behind me.
I try to back away a bit to look at him but the Lycans’ hold on me was too strong, I was pinned to his side.
“And why should I do that?” The Lycan finally speaks. His voice was deep and sexy, there was a hint of anger in it though.
“From my understanding, she isn’t yours neither is she marked.” He pauses for a second before continuing.
“At least not yet anyway.” He looks at me with a devilish grin on his face.
“She is mine!” Joel growls through gritted teeth.
“You dare challenge me?” The Lycan spits back at Joel.
“Do you know who I am? I am the son of King Kai Lightwood which means that not only am I a Lycan but also I’m a prince. So you will do well to respect me.” His hold on me remains tight as he glares at Joel.
“No? I thought so.” The Lycan says with dry humour dripping in his voice after a short time of silence.
“What gives you the right to block Lexi from me when you don’t even know her?” Joel snaps at the Lycan.
“I’m just doing what any mate would do to protect his Lady wolf.” His smile was massive like a Cheshire’s cat and I glared at him.
“I’m not your lady wolf!” His eyes snaps towards me as his smile falters into a grim line.
His eyes narrow into mine, demanding that I bare my neck at him. Remembering that he had announced he was a Prince, I had not choice but to submit. The Prince’s smile creeps back up before turning to Joel.
“As I was saying, Lexi is mine as I am claiming her and I dare you to say otherwise.” He roles my name on his tongue as if I was some sexy vixen as his hand twitches on my waist.
See the thing is, when it comes to the wolf culture, it’s natural that we are territorial over what’s ours. Which also means that male wolves fight over females all the time and this was one of those moments where two male fights over a female, which is me in this case.
And we all know that Joel doesn’t stand a chance against the Prince, no one stands against royalty. Even I can’t fight back. As it seems the Prince wants to claim me, Joel has no choice but to back off.
Joel looks at me then looks at the Prince then looks at me again with anger in his eyes, it’s clear that he still wants me. After fighting his inner desires for me, he sighs defeatedly and storms away.
With a victorious grunt, the Prince places himself in front of my vision with a massive grin on his face again as he continues to hold my waist with his arm. He sighs happily as he cups my chin with his other hand.
“Alone at last.” He says seductively.
“Why?” I whisper to him as a tear rolls down my flushed cheek, feeling confused.
“Why what, sweet Foxy?” He softly asks me as he caresses my face.
“Why are you doing this?” He doesn’t answer but continues to admire me. Then answers.
“Isn’t it obvious? Your scent is attracting me, it’s driving me crazy.” He shuts up, looking torn apart.
“I’m guessing that was your ex.” There was tiredness in his eyes.
Without saying a word I nod at him and he then nodded to himself. He grabbed my wrist and gently dragged me to a vehicle nearby with another Lycan in the drivers’ seat.
“Wait, my best friend is here, I can’t leave her!” I protest.
