The Night Everything Broke
Rain poured heavily over the city, blurring the lights of the expensive hotel.
Elena Carter stood outside Room 1208, her heart beating faster than it should.
Her hands trembled slightly as she held the key card.
Tonight was supposed to be special.
Three years.
Three years with Daniel.
And tonight he had asked her to meet him at this luxury hotel.
Her best friend had laughed earlier.
“Maybe he’s proposing.”
Elena had laughed too.
Now she stood outside the room door, nervous and excited.
She pushed the card into the lock.
The door opened.
And her world shattered.
Soft laughter came from inside.
A woman’s voice.
Elena froze.
The lights were dim, but she could clearly see Daniel lying on the bed.
With another woman.
Their bodies tangled together under the white sheets.
For a moment, Elena couldn’t breathe.
Her brain refused to understand what she was seeing.
Daniel noticed her first.
His expression changed from pleasure to pure shock.
“Elena?!”
The woman beside him quickly pulled the sheet over her body.
Elena’s chest felt tight.
Three years.
Three years of love.
And this was the truth.
Daniel jumped out of bed.
“Elena, wait! This isn’t what it looks like.”
Her laugh was hollow.
“Really?”
She gestured toward the bed.
“Then what does it look like?”
The woman beside him rolled her eyes.
“Oh please, Daniel, just tell her.”
Daniel’s face darkened.
“Elena… listen…”
“No.”
Her voice cracked.
“Just tell me the truth.”
Daniel sighed impatiently.
“Fine.”
His words hit like knives.
“I was going to break up with you anyway.”
Silence filled the room.
Elena stared at him.
“…Why?”
Daniel shrugged.
“You’re too ordinary.”
The words stung more than anything else.
“I have bigger plans for my future.”
He gestured toward the woman behind him.
“This is Sophia. Her father owns half the companies in this city.”
Sophia smirked.
“You can’t compete with that.”
Elena felt humiliation burn through her chest.
Her boyfriend had traded her for money.
Her three years meant nothing.
She turned and walked toward the door.
Daniel didn’t stop her.
Outside the hotel room, Elena’s legs finally gave out.
She leaned against the wall, tears sliding down her face.
Her phone buzzed.
A message from her boss.
Her heart sank.
She opened it.
“You’re fired. Don’t come back tomorrow.”
Elena stared at the screen.
Her boyfriend had cheated.
Her job was gone.
And suddenly her life felt completely empty.
She whispered to herself.
“What am I supposed to do now?”
Behind her, the elevator doors opened.
A tall man stepped out.
Sharp suit.
Cold eyes.
Powerful presence.
He stopped when he saw her crying in the hallway.
Their eyes met.
For a moment, neither spoke.
Then the stranger said calmly,
“You look like someone who just lost everything.”
Elena wiped her tears quickly.
“Mind your own business.”
The man studied her for a moment.
Then he said something strange.
“What if I offered you a way to get it all back?”
Elena frowned.
“Why would you do that?”
His lips curved slightly.
“Because I need someone exactly like you.”
And Elena had no idea that the man standing in front of her was Adrian Voss.
The most powerful CEO in the city.
Adrian held out a business card.
“Meet me tomorrow morning.”
Elena looked at the card.
Her eyes widened.
Voss Global Holdings
The biggest company in the country.
She looked back up.
But Adrian had already walked away.
And Elena couldn’t shake the feeling that her life had just taken a dangerous turn.
