Chapter Nine

1750 Words
He sat in a corner of the dark empty room. It was a full moon, and even though he was both a human and a vampire, he wasn’t exempted from the full moon. The dandelion sat there in the jar, floating, with a radiant white light surrounding it. He stared at watching it very keenly, the only flower that was timing him, watching him, so long and it has held its beauty. But because the time is drawing closer, it’s beginning to fade away, and he has only until his 35th birthday that he’d be there to see it. His thirst and quest for human blood is past his control. His senses are at its peak. Once James knows there’s about to be a full moon, he completely avoids Harry. Inside that big mansion of his, is a room, on the top floor, the farthest room down the hallway, away from the room. A sign outside of the door reads boldly, don’t come in or die. There’s a bunch of animal blood there, stored up for him. Roman would plead with him, to have just a sip, but deep down, he knew that that was the only boundary he had to cross and he’d become like the rest of them. A version of himself he never wanted to see. A version of himself he hated, because there was a probability that one day, he’d become like the rest. So there he was, in the corner of the dark room, shirtless, but on his mind was her. Her smile was the only thing he could picture. The reflection of the moonlight reflected on him. His nails grew longer, his skin grew paler, the color of his eyes turned orange, the veins in his body became darker and extremely visible because of the pale skin. His instincts began to kick in. Walking over to the shelf of the blood of the animals where they were preserved, he took one bottle out, and gulped it down. Behind his house, led into a thick forest, it led to nowhere, just the deeper you go, the lost you are. The window to the room was open, and he was out the window, faster than the speed of light , jumping from tree to tree, until he was down to the ground, running and running and running. He always did this alone, the only time he felt free, he’d do this every time because he always avoided the other vampires. The others weren’t so fond of him because he refused to almost everything. Roman was the only one who had his back and who would fight tooth and nail for him. At a night like this, where the moon is full, they would attack humans, drink on human blood, let the vampire instincts totally control them, and he hated that. Hated the loss of control, hated that it would make him a threat to humans. So there he was, free as a bird, not hiding from humans, putting his craves under control, and not breaking all of his morals to please the rest of the clan. But that was his most dangerous state ever to any human. Once in contact, once he senses they’re around, the first thing his brain alerts him to do, is suck out their blood. He sighted an antelope in the woods, running, and he chased after it, sinking his fangs into it’s neck and sucking its blood before dropping it off dead and heading off. ~~~ Lisa’s POV “It’s been three days and I haven’t heard anything from him, is he being serious?” I said to Laurel who was with me in my office. “Who are we talking about?” “I meant Harry.” “Oh,” she smirked at me, “you’re falling for him?” She said cheekily, “No you fool. It’s like, he just… poof. Disappeared. Without a trace.” “Or he bailed on you and ditched your little date. Maybe he saw how you treated him without regard and decided you weren’t the one for him.” “Stop talking nonsense.” I always hated Laurel for putting me down when what I really needed was some positive comments, “Well, if you really care that much, why don’t you text him?” I picked my phone up opening our last conversation on **. Underneath my last text was seen . No way I was going to text him, I wasn’t about to feed into his ego. “I don’t care if he disappears. It’s a good thing for me, he’s out of my hair and chaos is out of my life.” My alarm went off, “that’s my cue to do something reasonable with my life and avoid entertaining useless thoughts that you’d encourage.” I said getting up from my seat and grabbing my stethoscope. It was time for my usual rounds with the other doctors, “I didn’t even do anything,” Laurel cried out following behind me. “Dr. Lisa?” I heard someone call out to me, I turned around to see the receptionist, “Yes?” “I was wondering, if you know that popular actor, who’s also a billionaire, Harold?” “Yes? Any problem?” “Well, I kind of snuck him a spot to see you couple of days ago but he never showed up. I wanted to know if he did?” “You snuck him a spot?” I asked quietly, “Yes, but I’m sorry, he offered a way better amount than I have been paid in this hospital and I really needed it and I just had to,” she begged, “When was this?” “Couple of days ago, that he was here.” “Thank you.” I told her and walked away with Laurel, “That’s true, that’s probably the same day that I bumped into him accidentally,” “You bumped into him accidentally Laurel?” I asked raising a brow at her, “Well, he didn’t even bother to look at me. He wanted to know more about you.” “What did you tell him?” “Nothing much, I swear. Don’t give me that look. Just your house address.” “Laurel! How would you give my address, where I live! To a complete stranger!” “Stop yelling, we’re in a hospital.” She said hushing me, “and he’s not a stranger, he’s a popular actor. Who is adored by the world in case you didn’t know. And you should thank me, you have a date with the hottest eligible bachelor in town, you should pay me for that.” “I can’t with you. Not right now.” I said banging the door of the operating room behind me, grabbing the attention of my other colleagues. He went through all of this stress, just to go ghost on me? Can you ever understand these species? No. No. No. No. Absolutely not. I have to focus on the patient laying on this surgical bed waiting to be torn apart and fixed right up, so, I have to focus. Half vampire. I recalled him say that and burst out laughing, not realizing when I chuckled out loud. “Dr. Lisa? Are you alright?” The chief surgeon asked me. “She’s reminiscing the good times she had last night,” Laurel sneered. She was an anesthesiologist, so why is she not focusing on her damn job. “I’m fine sir.” I said regaining my composure. Imagine he really was one, this lady on this table is done for, he’d go right in for it, do vampires eat the humans too or they just drain their victim of the blood, Gosh Lisa. Focus. “Lisa?!” The chief surgeon called my name. “It looks like your mind is preoccupied.” “No chief. I’m sorry.” Get yourself together Lisa. Don’t let that bonehead get to you. Time to log out of my thoughts. Three hours has gone by, and we’re rounding up the surgery with me stitching her up. “Lisa, you’ve never been this distracted before. I know the break up with your ex must have a toll on you but you can take a couple of days off if you need to,” chief approached me once we were out of the theatre. “I’m sorry chief, I didn’t mean to and what am I supposed to do if I’m not here at work. You know this is basically the only thing I’ve got to do.” “Well, if you’re here you have to be on top of your game.” “Yes. I will. Thanks for the concern. I’ll do better from now on.” He nodded and walked away. “Thinking of your Prince Charming in there I see?” Laurel said coming up to me “Don’t you have a patient to monitor?” “Gosh. You don’t have to be a kill joy,” “Hey.” “I do have a patient to monitor but I’ll spare few minutes for this,” she said smiling as Harry walked up to me. “Your shift ends now. Let’s go on that date.” He said, not smiling, face stern, what is this? “You must be joking,” I said walking past him, brushing his shoulder , He walked faster and stopped in front of me. “Please.” He said, but his face held no expression. Who does this guy think he is? Before I could speak my mind, he grabbed my wrist and pulled me with him, “Are you mad? Let go of me this instant!” “I’ll grab her things.” Laurel screamed running off, “Let go! You’re causing a scene.” I said trying to wriggle my wrist free from his firm grip that was really tight, and not failing to notice the stares I was getting. He’s going to make working at this hospital harder than it already is. “Here it is!” Laurel screamed as she was panting handing my bags to her. How did she even grab everything so fast, he snatched it from her hand, threw me inside the limo and stepped in shutting the door behind him. I stared in disbelief, I could not believe that I was just manhandled and couldn’t do anything about it.
