CHAPTER 1: The Night Everything Changed
Every morning she woke up before sunrise in her tiny apartment. The walls were thin, the furniture old, and the air always smelled faintly of coffee beans from the café downstairs. But it was the only place she could afford.
She tied her hair into a neat ponytail, slipped into her uniform, and prepared herself for another long day of smiling at strangers.
By evening, the café was packed.
The soft hum of conversation mixed with the clinking of glasses and plates. Waitresses rushed between tables while the smell of roasted coffee and expensive wine filled the air.
Aria balanced a tray carefully on one hand as she weaved through the crowded tables.
“Table seven,” her manager called out sharply. “Their wine.”
“I’ve got it,” Aria replied quickly.
Her feet ached from standing for hours, but she pushed through the exhaustion. She couldn’t afford mistakes. One wrong move could cost her the job she desperately needed.
She approached the table, focusing on keeping the tray steady.
That was when she saw him.
The man sitting at the table looked like he didn’t belong in a place like this.
His suit alone probably cost more than Aria’s rent for six months.
Tall, sharp-featured, and impossibly composed, he sat with the quiet confidence of someone who was used to power. His dark eyes scanned a document on the table while the rest of the café seemed to fade around him.
Even before anyone whispered his name, Aria knew exactly who he was.
Ethan Blake.
Everyone in the city knew that name.
He was the billionaire CEO of Blake Industries. A man known for his ruthless business decisions and cold personality. People said he could destroy companies with a single phone call.
And now he was sitting at her table.
Aria’s heart began to beat faster. Stay calm, she told herself . She stepped closer and reached for the wine glass.
“Your wine, sir—”
Her foot caught the edge of a chair.
Everything happened in a single terrible second.
The tray tilted. The glass slipped. And before she could stop it, the dark red wine spilled directly onto Ethan Blake’s expensive suit.
The café went silent.
Aria froze, horror flooding through her.
“Oh my God— I’m so sorry!” she gasped, grabbing napkins and desperately trying to wipe the stain.
Her manager rushed over, his face pale.
“Aria! What have you done?” he whispered harshly.
The entire café seemed to be watching.
Aria felt her stomach twist with fear. Everyone knew Ethan Blake’s reputation.
He was not known for patience.
“I’m terribly sorry, Mr. Blake,” her manager said nervously. “She’s new and—”
“It’s fine.”
The deep voice cut through the tension.
Both Aria and her manager froze.
Ethan Blake slowly stood from his chair, glancing down at the stain on his suit as if it barely mattered.
Then his eyes lifted and met hers.
For a brief moment, Aria felt as if he was studying her.
Not with anger.
But with curiosity.
“What’s your name?” he asked calmly.
“A-Aria,” she said softly.
“Aria Daniels.”
Ethan Blake nodded slowly.
Then, to her complete surprise, a faint smile touched his lips.
“I actually came here looking for someone like you.”
Aria blinked in confusion.
“Sir?”
Ethan reached into his pocket and pulled out a sleek black business card.
He placed it on the table between them.
“I have a proposition for you.”
Aria stared at the card, her heart racing.
She had no idea that the small piece of paper sitting on that table was about to change her entire life.
