"Who said I want your forgiveness?" The fire in Astria's eyes burned Duncan. Her words are sprayed like poison, "You can keep your cheap forgiveness for yourself."
Duncan gritted his teeth, "What?!"
"I don't want to argue with an airhead. Give me my things and I'll leave. I don't have anything to do with you and who I sleep with and spend the night with is least of your concern. We are no longer together."
"You came here to get your things? What things are you hoping to get? Everything you own has been thrown away! Go and rummage into the trash and get it yourself!" Duncan brought Lavender into his embrace and declared.
Astria's chest was filled with anger. She didn't want to spoil her day by getting into any more arguments with unreasonable people. She picked up her fallen scarf and got up to leave. But how could the bad guys in her life let her go easily?
Lavender bent over to help Astria get her scarf and happened to see the clothes she was wearing. Her mouth widen with a gasp.
"Astria, did you get yourself a rich man? How come you are wearing the clothes from such an expensive brand? I remember you didn't make much money, and Duncan froze all your cards after the divorce! I never expected you to stoop so low!"
Even Duncan looked closely. It was truly a high end brand that even he didn't dare to get too many items of. How could Astria afford an entire set of clothes from the brand?
Anger flared even more before it could be extinguished. He grabbed Astria's arm and pulled her back.
"Who was it?!" Duncan exclaimed, "Did you sleep with a rich old man to satisfy your vain habits?!"
"You speak as if I was living the life of a rich trophy wife in your care," Astria pulled away from his hold and looked him up and down before jabbing in another subtle insult.
"And I don't care what you think. As I said, he was more of a man than you ever can be. Grow up, you little piece of s**t. You left me behind, so learnt to let go." Astria snorted, "And you slut in the back. Get a hold of your man. Be careful he doesn't slip behind your back and get himself another 'mate'."
Lavender flushed with color and held Duncan's arm timidly. Duncan didn't care about Lavender and rushed to grab Astria again. Astria was prepared this time.
Duncan's outstretched hand was grabbed and twisted. He was still a man with greater strength. And Astria knew his strength very well. She knew it was impossible to get out of the situation if he really wanted to get her. She kicked him in the nuts with her heel.
The thin heel hit the right spot and sent Duncan back kneeling on the ground. Lavender stared wide eyed as Astria gathered her hair into a ponytail and flipped her hair on the way out.
Duncan lay on the ground in pain and Lavender sat next to him, saying words of encouragement as he cursed back at Astria.
Outside the house that she called hers, Astria took a deep breath. Tears were choked back and trembling hands were stuffed into the trouser pocket. She couldn't let others see what she had become in a single night.
The scarf was back on and a pair of sunglasses hid the teary red eyes as she left the villa.
Astria found her things stuffed in a suitcase and thrown them outside the villa next to the trash can. They were not joking when they said it was out in the trash. It made Astria hate them even more.
It was a walk of courage for Astria to drag the suitcase along with her. Currently, she has limited money on her and nobody to rely on. She crumbled so hard all at once that there was nothing left to grab onto.
Feeling helpless was not a choice though. Astria was taught better than that. She was taught to fight the situation and make it better for herself. Since it didn't work in her favour, she gave up and started a new fight.
Would the fight end?
It won't.
Astria learnt that too.
That's why she had not yet broken down. She still had strength left in her.
With determination to change the circumstances, Astria thought she could get through the hard times. She decided to call her friend.
While doing so, she remembered how a few days ago, she severed the mind link between herself and Duncan. It was one of the most satisfying things she had done that day. Although her wolf was not as strong as it used to be years ago, she took the initiative to cut off contact between them.
In the day and age where mind link was the absolute norm, phone calls were still in fashion when it came to contacting strangers.
Despite being best friends with Ruth for more than a decade, the two never came to share a mind link because Ruth originally belonged to another pack and was residing at Red Moon for work and education. It was extremely difficult to establish connections when two individuals were from different packs unless they were wedded or mated.
Ruth never disappointed though. There were very few people who called on the phone.
She picked it up within a few rings.
Ruth was as reliable as ever.
"Hey, girl!" Ruth's cheerful voice answered.
Astria couldn't find it in her to match the energy. She did her best to keep the real feelings out of her tone as she answered though.
"Can I crash at your place for a few days?"
Ruth didn't even ask what happened and enthusiastically said it was fine. "Come over. I'm at home anyway. I don't have work until later in the evening."
Astria was glad she had made one reliable friend like Ruth. She thanked Ruth and said she'd be there in a while. Astria was about to call the cab to the location as it was a bit far.
Right then, another number called her phone. It was an unknown number. She wondered who had the free time to make a phone call rather than convenient mind linking. She ignored it once.
They called again. This time she picked up.
"Who is this?"
"The man who fuvked you last night."
