Chapter 1 : First Encounter
Elena’s footsteps echoed softly as she entered the grand lobby of Blackwell Corporation. The building towered above her, cold and gleaming, its glass walls reflecting the sharp rays of the morning sun. For a moment, she felt small like she had just stepped into another world.
“Miss Carter?” the receptionist called politely. “Mr. Blackwell is waiting for you on the fiftieth floor.”
Her heart skipped a beat. The CEO. Adrian Blackwell. The name alone was enough to make anyone’s pulse race. Rumor had it he was magnetic, intimidating, and ruthless both in business and in anything personal.
The elevator ride felt endless. Each floor that passed only added to the nervous energy tightening her chest. Elena rubbed her damp palms against her skirt, whispering to herself, “It’s just a job interview. Just an interview.”
When the doors finally slid open, silence wrapped around her like a cloak. The fiftieth floor was sleek, modern, and intimidating in its quiet elegance. Adrian’s assistant greeted her and led her to a tall mahogany door.
“Please, go inside. Mr. Blackwell is expecting you.”
Elena inhaled deeply, bracing herself, then pushed the door open.
Behind the massive desk, facing the city skyline, sat a man.
Adrian Blackwell.
For a moment, she forgot how to breathe.
He wore a tailored black suit that fit his broad shoulders perfectly. His jawline was sharp, his dark hair brushed back with meticulous precision. And his eyes steel-gray, piercing, unreadable lifted from the papers in his hands and locked on her.
A shiver ran through her.
“Miss Carter,” his voice rumbled, deep and commanding. “Sit.”
She obeyed instantly, though her knees felt weak. His gaze held hers, unwavering, as though stripping away her defenses without laying a single hand on her.
“What makes you think you’re qualified to be my personal assistant?” His tone was calm, but carried an edge that made her stomach twist.
Elena forced herself to hold his eyes, though it felt impossible. There was something dangerous about the way he looked at her. Her heartbeat grew erratic, her body betraying her composure.
“I-I believe I have strong organizational skills… and relevant experience,” she stammered.
Adrian leaned back in his chair, a faint smile tugging at the corner of his lips. Not a friendly smile but one filled with quiet amusement, as if he already knew the truth beneath her words.
“Interesting,” he murmured, voice low.
That single word sent an unexpected shiver down her spine.
He flipped a page, then glanced at her again. This time, his eyes didn’t just meet hers they lingered, dragging slowly, deliberately, down to her lips before rising again.
Elena’s breath caught. Heat rushed to her cheeks.
“You look fragile,” Adrian said suddenly.
Her eyes widened. “E-excuse me?”
He leaned forward slightly, his presence overwhelming. “But I can sense something else beneath the surface. Strength. A side you keep hidden.”
The way he spoke made her pulse quicken. His voice was velvet, dark, suggestive. And his gaze… his gaze burned through her, leaving her restless and exposed.
For a suspended moment, silence filled the office. The tension was so thick Elena could hear the wild thud of her heartbeat in her ears.
Then, his lips curved again this time into something darker, more dangerous.
“I want to see,” he said slowly, almost like a whisper, “how long you can endure working so close to me.”
Elena’s entire body trembled. She didn’t know exactly what he meant but deep down, she knew this interview was no ordinary meeting.
This was the beginning of something she should never allow.
Something forbidden.
And yet, as his eyes claimed hers once more, Elena couldn’t help but wonder
Would she really be able to resist?
